The book because it was original, and more into the Phantom's true character. Though the musical was the most fantastic music I've ever heard, I still have to say book.

I disagree...I have to say the musical because it's happening right before your eyes, not just some words (though they may be powerful words) on paper. The '04 movie doesn't count.

I've only seen the movie so I have to go with that one...

Aw, but with books you can read it and fall in love with it easier. It makes the scene more true to you than something you simply sit back and watch, aye? Books are in your head and you can picture your dream or nightmare scenarios.

But, I agree that the movie does not/should not count. ninja

What I meant was that the movie doesn't count as the play. It does count as a version of Phantom.

I prefer the musical, because the first thing that made me fall in love with POTO was the music. The movie shouldn't be put under the same category. Please don't do that.

I also like "Phantom" by Susan Kay, for it gave Erik a whole life story that I was absolutely entralled in.

I would have to say that I like all of them, although I have yet to see the Musical in person. I fell in love with the music from POTO when I was a young girl, about 6 years ago. My grandfather had CDs of the musical, so I got to hear the voices and music, and imagine my own scenes.

Definatly the book. I loved the movie, and it was good, but the book was better. heart It had so much more substance...though Raoul seemed a bit...wimp-ish...in it.

For me it's all about the book. I was raised by the play and the original Don Chanely movie. I never understood why the movie and the play were soo different till I read the book. The movie was made to portray the book the best to thier ability back then(minus the phantom being killed by an angry mob at the end). The play was made to appeal to audiences of all ages, although the ending was alot better than the original movie and stayed mostly true to the book, so they left out alot of important details like the persian, how stupid Raoul really is, christine's kidnapping, the falling of the chandelier, and Erik's underground home on the lake. I'm sure there's more but you get the point. The book gets more invloved in more of the characters and the happenings have alot more depth and I like that. Plus the book has the most truth in it. So yeah... in other words the book rules!!! xp

Personally, I love the movie (2004), the musical, and the book! The movie helped to focus on the facial emotions you couldnt see on the characters from so far away on stage. The musical obviously has the best singing and I found it to be the most magical of the three. The book gave a lot of information on Erik and the other characters so that was great. It was a very powerful read. I've never seen the Lon Chaney version of the Phantom but I hope to see it sometime soon. Still, If I had to choose, the musical is my favorite. 3nodding

Its Lon Chaney but we all make mistakes. I liked the book because it told more of the Phantoms background. I like the stage performance because the music is kick a** and the first time I heard it I was blown away. I like the movie because of Gerard Butler. (Oolala break me off a piece of that!)

I would go with the movie(2004) and the book. You can't beat the original and I like the movie because it was a more, dare I say, romantic interpretation of the story.
For me it's hard to say this one is better (yatta yatta) because they are extremely different from each other.
