i saw the movie two weeks ago. anyone else see it? i thought it was pretty good, but put to much on bad brains and black flag and left to much out. sure those two bands were big time influential to the scene, but they didn't even have the dead kennedys or misfits and barely touched on alot of other important bands. but i still enjoyed it.

american HARDCORE. not punk. HARDCORE. can't expect them to talk about a bunch of bands. and quit complaining, if you didn't like their movie, then make your own.

@ skroodle
80's hardcore is punk. I don't see where you were going with the first part of the post.
Why deny them their right to criticize the film anyway? It's not as if they have the money or funding to make their own film about the 80's hardcore scene. Everyone has their disagreements and criticisms of this film. Even I do, and I enjoyed the film!
@ snit
In the directors' commentary version of the film on DVD, one of the directors explains that the reason Dead Kennedys couldn't be interviewed was because of legal issues (I'm sure it's because of the band's issue with Biafra). The only mention of the Misfits was Bobby Steele's interview, I guess. But, you have to realize that the movie isn't entirely about bands; it has a lot to do with the youth culture of the time.
I think the reason why Black Flag is mentioned a lot is because Kira Roessler plays a huge role in the topic of "females in the hardcore scene". Also, SST was one of the most important record labels of the scene. The reason why the Bad Brains were mentioned a lot in the film is because they were influential in both the DC scene and NY scene. And, the biggest reason both bands are mentioned a lot: both bands are very popular and well-known, even in the mainstream world.

i figured it'd probably be from legal issues.
and i totally understand it wasn't just the bands, but the whole movement and how its changed the music scene and all that. the book had more on bands, which i thought was cool because i dug learning about all these bands, and i discovered some of my favorite bands from reading the book. but since you can put alot more information into a book than into a movie, its understandable why they left out alot.
