Smoking doesn't cause cancer, it just makes the risk of lung cancer higher. Anti-smoking groups make it seem like everyone who smokes will get lung cancer and that is what we're led to believe but in actuality not everyone who has smoked in their lifetime will get lung cancer.
I was doing a speech for Public Speaking and while reading about the various topics I wanted to argue I found this. I also found that those commercials you see on TV saying that 400,000 Americans die each year from smoking is inflated information. They didn't die just from smoking but because they smoked the people behind the commercial tried to make it look like they died because they smoked.

Wow. I just always passed them off as truth, but irrelevant to me.
Now that I think about it though, it's not illegal for them to manipulate information, nor to create false statistics by doing so. It certainly doesn't sound unreasonable for some of the radical people I know.
That's interesting to know.

It's not illegal at all which is even more of a reason to look into some of these studies they do a little closer. It depends mainly on who funds the research, the people doing these studies will sometimes make the studies very misleading so the groups funding them will be happy or else they won't get funded at all.

I have always known that smoking doesn't cause cancer. But I did not think that I was being lied to by my TV. Damn those commercials.

The commercials don't effect many people, though. The smokers usually just keep on smoking and the people who see the commercials sometimes smoke anyway.
I think the people who make those commercials are just wasting their time and money. People quit if they want to quit, not because of statistics.

Well in actuallity...It cant casue cancer, like the T.V commercials clearly say they do...Think about Toboco for a second...and All of the people in america from 1776 that smoked....you think they DIED from from lung cacer...no they didnt. It makes the risk higher but then again so does the t.v. that they show those damn commerials on rofl razz Iv always known that the statistics werent true...they say 2billion people died FROM smoking. No they happened to smoke...so the people who got eated but mountain lions were added into that statistic if they haapen to smoke...if the statistics, wich many are not, are even legitament and completely made up. I say " wheva whateva ill do what i want" xp
