Training Camp: Phase I

This is the very basics of training that will be provided for members joining the Black Templars. Here basic fitness will be determined, as well as close quarters combat technique. It is an exercise to gauge your RPing skill and improve upon it via OOC chatter, as well as a simple but hopefully fun RP that will begin to lay out the foundations of the relations between all of the characters. You do not need to complete this course before you complete the other phases. However, you must have your profile accepted before you are able to post here.

A drab grey one story building with a flat roof and uniformly spaced single windows sat beside a quarter mile elliptical track and a complex obstacle course. For the extent of the initiates training, this would be their home. On the inside, it was well lit, containing only cots and trunks laying in front of each of them, everything maintaining the neutral colour scheme as does the outside. It was devoid of personality, very parallel to a military barracks. However, it was by no means a permanent residence, and it was made to mirror that very fact.

The new recruits were instructed previously to enter the building and lay their possessions on a cot of their choosing, then proceed outside, out to the field in the middle of the track. It was a moderately windy day, cloudy cover veiling the colour of the scene. Trees swayed slightly in the distance, beyond the fences a half kilometer away. It was the beginning of winter, the trees were nearly barren, and the grass was greyed, making the training camp seem almost desolate.

Once they reached the middle of the field, they would find the man they were to report to. He was around six foot with a solid build, wearing grey digital camouflage patterned pants and a tight fitted black tee shirt. He wore a black beret with a red and gold insignia on it, which also served to keep his hair back and out of his face. This man stood with his legs slightly apart and with his arms folding across his chest. This man was Colonel Xenos Mortium, and he was the current leader of the Black Templars. He was the one who would be training them. He was the one who would be putting them through as much Hell as he deemed fit. As soon as the initiates would get near him, they would see that he had a smirk upon his face.

Vince steeled himself for the training ahead for a few minutes after he set his bag filled with everything of his that he wasn't wearing down on the furthest bed from the door, right near a window. "Stormwatcher grant me strength this day." He whispered in prayer. Vince was dressed in a plain grey t-shirt and black sweat pants with his short hair sticking out in every possible direction except where it was supposed to. Before going out to the field he quickly ate a small bit of beef jerky and a few ounces of water, then made sure his knives were secure and tied his pouch so that it wouldn't fall off.

The bare trees and dry grass reminded him of his home up north and the coolness in the air was refreshing. Soon His hair would darken to a much deeper shade as the season turned. With a steady face and confident motions he walked up to who was clearly the CO and saluted with his feet together. "Sir, initiate Vince Longfeather reporting!"

The door opened faster than Carlos expected. The force of the wind flung the door from his soft push and it slammed into the wall. Carlos stood in the doorway for a second, duffel bag over his right shoulder. He took a deep breath and took his first step into the complex. He noticed at the far wall was another bag laid out in front of one of the beds. Meant he wasn't alone. He stepped further inside and dropped his bag on the foot of the second bed. He was wearing grey sweats and sweatshirt. It not only matched the color scheme of the place, but also the mood that lingered around this training facility.

Carlos walked towards the door and grabbed the swinging door. He closed it behind him as he looked around. He saw two figures standing out on the field next to the bunker. He started a slow jog in that direction. His hand came up and his fingers wrapped around two metallic objects hanging from his neck. He pulled on the collar of his sweater and slipped the dog tags inside. He adjusted his collar to let the chain fall in as well. As he approached the officer he stood next to the other Initiate and stood erect. He lifted his hand in a salute, "Initiate Sanchez reporting, sir!"

((Well, I don't suppose I should keep you two waiting any longer. I guess waiting for them to post was a lost dream. *cries*))

Xenos stood there solitarily, a chilling breeze scattering a few leaves that had happened to be strewn about the field, waiting and watching. Soon enough, one man walked out of the barracks and on to the field, and naught but a modicum of time later, another followed en suite. One, then the other, stood erect and saluted him, giving him their names. He responded much the same, snapping his boots together and raising his right hand to his forehead, snapping it into place. He lowered it, expecting them to do much the same, but remaining at attention. He spoke to them, "Welcome Initiates Longfeather, Sanchez. I am Colonel Xenos Mortium, your commanding officer. As that you are the first to make it out here, I shall give you the pleasantries of my introduction, rather than forcing you immediately into training."

He looked them both up and down, obviously sizing them up, making a break in his rhetoric. Soon enough however, he continued, "I want to start this out very simple, to get you two warmed up before you begin to be put into physically demanding situations." He broke his stance and turned his back to them, facing a large obstacle course. He spoke louder now, as so that they would be able to better hear him, "I want you to warm up and stretch out however you are used to, however you see fit. There is a track, as you can see, that you may jog on if you see so fit." Xenos raised his left hand and motioned to the obstacle course he now faced. "Once you've warmed up, this is what I want you to do, I want you to run through this. As soon as you finish it, you will be given a few minutes to rest, and then we will continue."

He turned back around, and pulled a cigar and Zippo from his cargo pocket, gritting it between his teeth and flicking the Zippo open simultaneously. He brought the lighter up and struck it on, covering the flame with his other hand. With a few quick inhalations, the Colonel lit the cigar and promptly snapped the Zippo shut, putting it back into his pocket. Placing the stogie between two fingers, he removed it from his mouth and blew smoke off to the side. He grinned and almost taunted them, "Any questions?"

The obstacle course was, or at least appeared to be, somewhat akin to a military one, and it should not be that much problem for anyone with military training, or even anyone who was physically fit, for that matter. However, one note of interest is that while it is feasible that to be completed alone, certain points along it would be much more easily done with the help of others.

It started out with the trainees having quite simply to jump over walls of increasing height, starting at one foot, then two, then three, and then four. The then must jump into the air and grab a hold of monkey bars over a mud pit and go the course of it, as it increases height to the other side, where they would have to swing themselves into a pipe suspended into the air. Once through it, they have jump down about ten feet onto a cargo net and crawl up it onto a platform, and from there jumping off of it in an attempt to grab a rope and swing, using momentum, to another platform. Should they not make this jump, they will fall into a mud pit and have to climb a ladder back up to the first platform. From this point they would need to walk along a balancing log, about thirty feet long, to another platform perpendicular to the first. Ropes were fastened to the side of this platform which they would use to rappel down, going parallel to the direction first they came, going back.

Once back on the ground, they would need to go down into a culvert filled with water, and once out of that, they'd have to go through alternating logs placed at their feet and at their heads, weaving between them. After those, they would be met with a solid wall, barring a single window at about four foot up. Once they land on the ground, they will find that they will need to crawl through shallow trenches with razor wire overhead for some thirty feet or so. After that they would have to go through another twenty feet of night trenches (shallow covered trenches, near pitch black inside) and come to their final obstacle. A ten foot wall lay on the other side of them, and they must come to get to the top and drop over into a pool of water, quite cold due to the weather. At this point, they would be complete. They would report back to their officer and would be given period of rest. They’d likely need it.

Anderson reclined in his study watching the football game unfold before his eyes, also surfing the internet casually. He went onto his email and saw a new one. It was from abusinessopportunity@clickit.com and the subject read, Reminiscing on the past, Mr. Anderson? Kyle readjusted himself on the chair. He knew it was spam but it caught his attention. He click it and the email read:

Ah, Mr. Anderson. I knew your past wasn't so dull that you would just delete this email. Before I begin, no, this is not spam. My name does not matter right now, what matters is what you want to do with your life! I am in charge of an elite Private Military. Unlike the United States Army, we aren't based on number. We are the few that reign above everyone else. You would be working with the most expert killers on the face of this earth. They don't offer that in the Rangers do they, Mr. Anderson?

The reason you have gotten this is I have rumaged through some of the Ranger files and came up with a rather decorated file! I read it over and you same to fit the spot I'm looking for. If you want in, meet me at my complex. The address is printed below. Think of this as a subsitute for not going into Delta Force. I know you regret it.

Col. Xenos Mortium
Black Templars Commander

Kyle ran to his basement and oened up his gun safe and looked at his weapons. He ran his hands through his hair and stared at the guns. He reached down near the bottom and grabbed a duffel bag. He started stuffing it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kyle arrived on a bus with all of his things. He walked across the fields spinning around seeing all the...same colors. His eyes met the barracks and he mumbled, "This reminds me of BCT. This really is a redo of my past." He grabbed the swinging door that the others opened and looked around the room. He spoke in regard to the makeshift facility, "He said meet me at my complex. I hope this is the training complex." He kept walking while speaking aloud still not able to recall BCT fully, "Maybe I'm jsut too use to an actually bed now. You get more and more spoiled as you move up." He set his bags down on the first bunk on the right and started to leave but tucked his guns underneath the bed.

He ran out onto the field in his assault vest and pants not panting or wheezing after the short run. Yes, he wasn't in the Army anymore, but he still lifted and was only home for about 6 months. He saw the figure standing in the digitalied camp and thought, "Colonol." He then looked at the two men standing at attention. They soon were saluted back and he ran up about 15 seconds later only catching the Colonol saying something about a question. He stood at attention and saluted like he never left the Army, "Staff Se-"

He stopped himself, "Sorry, sir. Initiate Kyle Anderson, reporting in."

Fina got the message just like everyone else probably had... Atleast she assumed as much. She got off of a bus, bringing only the essentials. Her clothes, her guns, and her cleaning kit, as well as her blades. They were all in two bags she held at her side. She figured there might not be enough room to store it all, so after selling some of her extra guns she'd collected during her contracts to collectors whom she figured would take good care of them, she had packed everything away. Of her extra guns, she only brought a Dragunov Rifle, a pair of Desert Eagles, a pair of Glock 17's, and an FN P90 SMG. Her blades, as usual, were hidden away in her coat...

After leaving the bus, she started toward that plain building. Everything here seemed so quiet... It sort of put her on edge. She'd already seen the others standing in the field, and one other was heading towards them, so she decided to pick up the pace a bit. She started to jog towards the building hefting both backs up so that the straps would hang over her shoulders...

Once Fina reached the building, she moved over toward the closest cot to her that didn't have anything on it. She walked over, looking at the trunk for a moment. I don't have time to set everything away right now... She thought, then grasped the straps of the bags and pulled them from her shoulders, setting them down on the bed. After doing this, she started to take her trenchcoat off, then hesitated. Her swords were still inside of it... She shook her head. What would they want my blades for? They've all got their own weapons... And besides, we're supposed to be in the same organization now, right? It'll be fine. That decided, she took off the trenchcoat she was wearing, and then set her gun down inside of the trenchcoats inner pocket, holster and all. This done, she started for the door and exited the building...

She jogged toward the field, approaching the others and taking her position in the line. She had gotten in line at the end of everything that was being said, so she guessed she missed it... Then he asked if there were any questions. "Initiate Xanth reporting..." She said, standing at attention and giving a salute just as the others had done. "And I have a question... Could you repeat everything you just said, Sir."

Vince grinned after looking at the course, it was very similar to what he had been doing for the past few months. But he stayed at attention until the Colonel finished and said crisply, "Yes, sir!" and was the first to start on the course. The walls were simple and passed under him in a few breaths. But was a bit overconfident and nearly slipped into the mud from the monkey bars. But once he got to the pipe Vince did a swift leap that nearly took him straight to the platform. He didn't bother to look back and see how far anyone else was and pressed on.

He took a moment to catch a bit of air and deftly caught the rope and swung to the other side. The balancing log would be tricky so he went slowly, but not so much so that he didn't make any progress. Then all but ignored the rope to rapell down on and only used it a bit at the last moment and absorbed the rest of the shock with his legs. Tightly built like springs, and able to bear more than they should have normaly while still not being much was just right for most of the tasks he had to perform on a day-to-day basis.

((First off, OOC instruction. Though he's already been informed, I think everyone should do well to know that even if it's inconsequential, it's bad to take control over what a characters says or does. In this instance, Alucard says that I have contacted him and informed him to come. Fina read this and did much the same, even though I never stated that I had sent a message to anyone, and I may not have. It makes 'non-canon' events 'canon'. (Best way I can describe it, though this technically doesn't really have canon.)

Ithros, you have gone from the monkey bars to the pipe by leaping. Did you leap face first, and if so, how did you not fall into the mud? You also state that it takes you straight to the platform, whereas after the pipe is a ten foot drop onto a cargo-net leading up to the first platform. Continuity is very important between different users posts, as to create a singly interpreted world, which is a big problem in the last RP before the guild went into a state of decay. Also, people may be inclined read through all of the posts, and seeing that you handled the situation one way, try to do it much the same, and the lack of cargo net may be fresher in the minds, and they will lack it as well.))

Two more had come to join them, standing at attention in line and stating their rank and names. At about that same time, the first one to get their hurried his way off to start on the course, without even taking the time to warm up or stretch himself. Xenos hoped the initiate would learn his lesson about rushing into things like that without taking the necessary preparations. Who knew though, the course wasn't that stressful, so he should be fine.

At about the time he started off, the woman who had come last asked a question of him, she asked him to repeat what he had just said. He didn't answer at first, instead taking the time to take another inhalation from his cigar, and blowing it out to the side again. "It was just pleasantries. After that, I said that you may take your time to get warmed up, run the track a little if you like, and then run the obstacle course behind me." He put the cigar back between his teeth and gritted them. He continued, somewhat mumbling, "Once you're through, report to me. You'll have a few minutes to rest before you proceed. Any questions?" For some reason, asking them if they had any questions amused him, and he grinned once more.

[Understood.]

Fina gave a nod after the explanation, patiently waiting for it to be given instead of showing impatience, or infact even becoming impatient. She was a patient person... sometimes. In either case, the answer was given, and so, without further waiting, she got to work with her stretches, moving low to the ground and setting her heel down on the ground, shifting her weight all the way to the right, while her left leg was stretched out to the side, and then leaning her upper body toward her left leg. She'd repeat this with her right leg before moving on to other basic leg stretches most people probably learned in high school... Then she'd move on to arm stretches...

Unlike the first initiate, Carlos decided to stretch a little. As he lowered himself to a simple leg stretch, a female arrived and started with her question. While the Colonel redid his speech, Carlos shifted his weight and stretched his other leg. Deciding not to stretch anymore and try to catch up with the other initiate, Carlos rose back to his feet and started to jog towards the obstacle course. In the process he tilted his head to the sides stretching his neck.

When Carlos reached the obstable course he started to pick up his speed until he was running. At this speed he cleared the first three walls with a short jump. On the fourth wall, he jumped, placing his foot on the top of it and then hopping over. Now that he was over the wall he slowed back to a jog. Leaping to the monkey bars, Carlos looked forward for the other initiate. He couldn't see him and figured he was further ahead. Carlos crossed the bars, at first quickly alternating hands as he moved from bar to bar, but near the end, it slowed to one bar at a time. Swinging forward and grabbing with one hand, then grabbing the bar with the other. Once at the end, Carlos swung and reached the pipe with his legs. After a slowly getting himself into the pipe, he started to move through it.

Reaching the other end of the pipe, Carlos looked down towards netting and a platform. The platform could be reached from this height, but at the same time it may be detrimental. Considering this, he fumped down into the netting. He jumped with his legs in front of him and his arms across his chest. Carlos landed in the netting on his back and he quickly rolled over and slowly crawled to the platform, careful not to slip into the holes of the net. Carlos moved to the edge of the platform to see the mud pit below. As he took a couple steps back, he judged the distance to the rope. Carlos ran forward leaping to the rope, his momentum causing him to reach the next platform easily.

Kyle saluted back and then stood at attention whie he addressed the woman next to him. He then saluted again, "Yes, sir." He did an about face and walked over to the side with the other "stretchee". He started streching out his legs and doing legs stretches. He looked over to him, "Hey. The name's Kyle Anderson, considering we will be spending some time together, I thought we might as well meet one another?" He looked around as he heard the response, still listening. Those years in the military really taught him how to multitask. He remembered his favorite operation:

It was in Afganistan. His squad was ordered to take out a rebel outpost, approximately 40 men were stantioned there. His team was on a hill about 1 mile away. The day before their dawn raid, they got word the group was leaving on a convoy to go do an operation sometime within the next 2 days. He ordered one men to stay on watch and he reported that they saw packing started. Anderson ordered his team to go down to the camp in the middle of the night. They planted C-4 on all the trucks and waited for the men to come out at morning. One hour before their operation would have started they were about to leave. Kyle said with the trigger in hand, " 3... 2... 1... Execute!" He pressed it and the group went into flames leaving only guards and other personal doing last minute packing alive. Anderson had 3/4 of his team already in place 50 yards away. They started the sweep and took all remaining hostage.

Anderson thought about it, Those were the good old days. Hopefully, these will be better. He sat down and started to touch his toes.

Fina finished with her stretches. After doing this, she looked from the track to the obstacle course... Then got started towards the track. She figured a single lap wouldn't hurt before she got started with the obstacle course. That decided, she started to the track, and began with her first lap...

Just jogging along... Not too fast, not too slow... Jogging and jogging some more. There was little else to do for the moment aside from concentrate and maybe count her footfalls. She contemplated analyzing the others speed and physical fitness while she ran... Maybe she could come up with plans for them in the future.... Yeah. Perhaps...

During her first lap, her attention would turn to the obstacle coarse, deciding to watch how the others would run it while she jogged. She really examined the coarse a bit more closely. This course doesn't give much in terms of analysis for the others... So after that, she'd take her eyes away and just continue her jogging. Analysis can wait for some of the more complicated stuff....

After finishing her first lap, she'd head toward the obstacle coarse, starting by jumping to the top of one wall, then to another, and then another, and simply hopping to the other side of them, jumping straight to the monkey bars and starting towards the pipe, moving herself slowly along, first one hand, then the other to the same bar, and working herself up like that....

After his discussion with Carlos ((sry man, I wanted to post)), he went over to the track and did a short 50 yard sprint and then turned around and did it again. Then his started doign a military jog. Unlike a regualr one, his right foot was facing not forward but 45 degrees to the right so when he would stop while armed, he would be able to fire quickly if abbushed. He did a lap of that and then walked up to the starting line.

The wind picked up and he put his arms out and let it cool his hot skin. He rolled his neck with his eyes closed. He took a deep breath as the images of his initial training flashed before his eyes. He eyes opened with a snapped. He took a step and started jogging towards the first wall. He did a little jump over it and did the same for the next two. Then, since the clearance hight was to much. He put his left hand on the top and jumped, swinging his legs over the top and he landed with a thud. He took some steps and leaped up and caught the handlebars. He swung left, right, left, right, left, right, left, right. Then came the pipe. He put both hands on the last bar but holding l he would a chin up and did a curl bringing him up higher. He brought his feet up and put them into the pipe He then spun around and pushed off the bar and crouched down so his head would clear the pipe, he did a backwards roll and came up. He turned around and walked to the end of the pipe.

Upon reaching the end, he knew he wouldnt make the jump. He was too tall to get any jump out of it. He could jump off but he would land on his feet and would probably go through the holes. He then knew what to do. Back in Ranger training there was a tower thehad to climb by flipping themselves up. He would do that here.

He grabbed the top of the pipe and swung his crouched legs out and over top of him landing on top of the pipe. He then stood and jumped of leaning back. He cleared the pipe and landed on thecargo net with a little bounce. He then turned around the face forward and started climbing up, putting a foot on each rope and ahand on each crossing rope. He reached the top. He stood on the platform and thought, "Wow, this is a nice view from up here. I'll have to come out here a night."

Kyle saw the log in front of him. He waited for the bonde in front of him to get off before doing in but he then rolled the log side to side to check how little or much force it would take to roll it. He found it was in the middle. He stepped on it slowly and had each arm out. He tipped alittle and then focused ahead. He took careful steps putting one foot right next to the other heel to toe. About a minute later, he stepped off.

He looked at the rappel lines with a smirk and only responded with, "If only ther ewere fast ropes, too." He took hold of the rope with his gloved hands and jumped out. He loosed his grip letting the rope slide in between his hands. He landed and gripped the rope. He reapeated that until the end. He hit the bottom with grace and ran parallal to the course. He came up to the culvert and said, " Why didn't a become a SEAL?"

((I am awestruck by the skill of you guys. I feel like I just made one of the most noobish mistakes ever. Thankyou for the help sir))

Vince scolded himself inwardly from deviating from the course ealier and made sure that he did the rest exactly as it was laid out. He nodded in respect to the other initiate who landed near him then flung himself back into his proper rhythm that he had been forced to adopt from living in an environment in the wild for so long, but alot of it came from the need to escape quickly and quietly in a way that a purserer either couldn't find or follow. The culvert was slow going slugging through the water as cold seeped into his boots. Vince had been looking forward to the next obstacle however.

He flowed through the logs like water. Bending himself smoothly and calmly to use as little motion as possible and missing by sometimes such small margins that his loose clothing brushed the wood. He picked up speed part way through it and spread his arms for balance, and spread his feet and twisting his ankles. Using his entire body to counter then enhance his momentum. And finished with his arms at his sides, legs together, and feet fanned, letting a deep breath escape to calm himself. Most of his escapes had been adrenaline fueled so he needed to remember that it was just training.

Vince started again with a short jog to the wall. When the slab of wall was infront of him he hooked both fingers around the edge and sprung up to set his right foot over, momentarily looking at the inside of the window then followed up with his left. He continued the spin a little bit in order to remain forward. Then, presented with thirty feet of razor wire stuck to his word and made sure to complete it right. Down on his belly, Vince pushed forward through the mud with toes, knees, and elbows. It was rather aggravating, but sometimes he had had to crawl like this for hours to reach a kill point undetected. That didn't mean he enjoyed it.
