You think that by creating a guild forum dedicated to bitching about what is wrong with ED is going to do anything? You say that there are "ideas and petitions [are] floating around ED . . . [which] are not united," then imply that uniting them will solve the problem, "[t]ogether in this guild we will share our ideas and petitions . . . we will work towards a brighter future for the ED forum." Petitions have nothing to do with ED, end of story. ED is about discussion. And ideas are supposed to belong to an individual, not a group. "Saving" ED is not about having a little tea party to b***h about what is wrong with it, complain about the spam and the consistant bumping. "Saving" ED is about encouraging our peers to post their ideas on threads that sometimes have intimidating topics. Your IQ and your knowledge are not measured in ED, they are explored. Instead of harrassing those who dilute our literary, knowledgable discussions with unwelcomed spam (because we all know we're better than everyone else for posting in ED), we ought to be supporting their participation. We should be comfortable if anyone with any amount of experience and sophistication with words posts on the ED forum. That is the beauty of ED. Any Gaian can post there. We, as self-proclaimed "literates" (because it's so much more than being able to write) have brought this problem down upon ourselves. By being exclusive, we deny people freedom of speech. We are elitist, and you know it. The solution is to encourage, not forbid. Promote, not petition.

so you are okay with people making topics like "fhffgjurfjhf"? there is not much to discuss. then you got that little b***h from stormfront copy pasteing and the little turd won't even debate. when he did he disregarded any evidence to reubuttle his posts. ed will get clogged with that s**t if we let it happen. then you got those little monkey spanks from 4chan that kept posting porn and a loaf of bread with wheels in every discussion and making a hundred topics of their own. sorry if we want to try and have a decent conversation without seeing a picture of a feamale with giantsized male genitals. my kid saw that. i'm just glad she's too young to be scared by that. the only hypocrosy this guild would be gulity of is if we spamed the forum ourselves. which we don't because e damn well know better.

Now, back to the thread itself. unedited Save ED? You think that by creating a guild forum dedicated to bitching about what is wrong with ED is going to do anything? Probably not. But a large, collective b***h session is FAR harder to ignore than arbitrary individuals trying to fight alone for what they believe in. Unless we combine, which this guild does, we will fall pray to divide and conquer. This guild may not gaurentee victory... but it tilts the odds far more than it would by NOT having it. Quote: Petitions have nothing to do with ED, end of story. What the hell? That's not an argument. That's like saying that because the definition of gay is not the same as the definition of petition, we shouldn't have people petitioning for gay rights! No one said they were the same thing. Where are you getting this? Quote: ED is about discussion. And ideas are supposed to belong to an individual, not a group. They are? That's news to me O.O. Look up ideas on dictionary.com (I did, but the definition is too long to post). Now, care to show me where, in any of that, it states that ideas have to be held by individuals? Who the hell says that because my idea happens to be the same as yours, it's invalid and therefore not an idea? Your definitions confuse me. Quote: "Saving" ED is not about having a little tea party to b***h about what is wrong with it, complain about the spam and the consistant bumping. Good thing that's not what we're doing then, eh? Quote: "Saving" ED is about encouraging our peers to post their ideas on threads that sometimes have intimidating topics. Your IQ and your knowledge are not measured in ED, they are explored. Ideas are one thing. Spamming and trolling are quite another. Your IQ IS measured in ED, mate. If you pose no debate, and instead are just being a complete tool, you are supposed to have your thread/post deleted. Those are the rules, freedom of speech be damned. Quote: Instead of harrassing those who dilute our literary, knowledgable discussions with unwelcomed spam (because we all know we're better than everyone else for posting in ED) When did any of us say that? Your judgmental attacks on our integrity is a fallacy. Cut it out. Quote: we ought to be supporting their participation. REALLY now? We should just accept with open arms someone coming in posting pictures of arbitrary pornography for no reason but to piss us all off? That's quite an odd idea. Tell you what. Go to some sort of board meeting, and while everyone is discussing, stand up and display giant pictures of pornography and say absolutely nothing. Then, tell me how fast you get kicked out, and just how well the argument of "freedom of speech" works for you. Kay? Quote: We should be comfortable if anyone with any amount of experience and sophistication with words posts on the ED forum. That is the beauty of ED. Any Gaian can post there. See the bolded part? Yeah. We're not debating "any amount of experience/sophistication" should be allowed. We're debating that posting LOL I LYK SEX DO U or f** DA JEWS should NOT be allowed in ******** ED. Quote: We, as self-proclaimed "literates" (because it's so much more than being able to write) have brought this problem down upon ourselves. By being exclusive, we deny people freedom of speech. We are elitist, and you know it. It's true; a lot of literates have, indeed, become elitists. But not all of us have, and by throwing us all in that category you're being an elitist yourself. You're not the avenger of the newbs, mate. Put down your toy cape and mask and pay attention to the real world, okay? Quote: The solution is to encourage, not forbid. Promote, not petition. The solution is to get people to pay more God damned attention to the rules. Anarchy doesn't work.

This isn't hypocrisy, this is organization. I compare this to threads about the declining state of ED as placed in GCD, except without random people from wildly different forums walking in and spamming up the threads or trolling in them. I mean, unless this is a "public" guild, in which case it really isn't that different from a variety of threads in GCD.
You're wrong in thinking that all we're doing is bitching about how ED is 'omfg so bad these days!!' With the organization provided by this guild, we can press the site for more ED mods, or at least more involved, active ED mods. I know this has to be an issue for the site, because there's really no other explanation for porn/gore troll posts lasting as long as they do. We can also use this place to propose other "outside the box" suggestions. I've got one halfway written up (finals are slowing me down) and I'm gonna propose it in this guild soonish.
Now, I would love it if all the spammers would actually participate, but the reality is that the significant majority of them are post-and-run opinion dumpers, and those are the ones who aren't actively attempting to sabotage ED by trolling and intentionally spamming. There's literally nothing we can do about those latter people. They're here to aggravate us. Trying to get them to join in on discussion is probably harder than trying to convert the Phelps family to Islam.

This guild is to unite the members of Gaiaonline who are dedicated to saving the Extended Discussion. The Extended Discussion rules are constantly being ignored and broken. Threads constantly live on without being reported. Threads that spam the Extended Discussion forum are being bumped up incessantly. Many ideas and petitions have been floating around ED, but it seems that we are not united. Together in this guild we will share our ideas and petitions, and together we will work towards a brighter future for the ED forum. Together we will sign petitions, share ideas, share experiences, etc. The Extended Discussion Coalition. Together we will save ED. Save ED? You think that by creating a guild forum dedicated to bitching about what is wrong with ED is going to do anything? Please do not misunderstand what I said. Please do not misinterpret my sayings. I call strawman. It is not that I think that creating a guild dedicated to "bitching" about what is wrong is going to do anything. I think that creating a guild where users are united against spam will do great things, because together we can inspire each other. Together we can encourage each other. Together we can make good topics and support them. Together we can actively report topics and not respond to them. Together we can do many things. Let's look at the other option, if we are not united, then we are separated. This is not a false dichotomy. If we are separated, how then we will get our ideas to everyone who wants to support them? How then will we be able to brainstorm with people with the same goals as us? Use your mind here. Please look at the threads already in place. Please think deeper at the possibilities of this guild. Please try and look outside of the box and really try to imagine the possibilites. Quote: You say that there are "ideas and petitions [are] floating around ED . . . [which] are not united," then imply that uniting them will solve the problem, "[t]ogether in this guild we will share our ideas and petitions . . . we will work towards a brighter future for the ED forum." Petitions have nothing to do with ED, end of story. Prove this assertion. Petitions that are centered around the ED forum and are dedicated to improving the ED forum in some way obviously have something to do with ED. Therefore, your statement is false. Point? You are not specific enough. The ED is about extended discussion. One can simply look through the rules and guidelines of the ED forum to see what extended discussion implies. There rules and guidelines are being overlooked and ignored. People are not seeming to care about them. People are posting spam topics and they are not inspiring or taking place in extended discussion as outlined in the rules and guidelines. These threads and posts are staying in the ED, where the rules and guidlines say they do not belong. People are responding to them. People continue to break the rules seemingly without any conviction. There are petitions that want to stop this. There are petitions that are trying to stop the spam. Because ED is about extended discussion, these petitions are trying to wrk to make it a place of extended discussion. Quote: And ideas are supposed to belong to an individual, not a group. Prove this assertion. I find it very odd that the dictionary definition talks nothing about to whom ideas are supposed to belong. Quote: "Saving" ED is not about having a little tea party to b***h about what is wrong with it, complain about the spam and the consistant bumping. "Saving" ED is about encouraging our peers to post their ideas on threads that sometimes have intimidating topics. Your IQ and your knowledge are not measured in ED, they are explored. 1.Prove that we are having a "little tea party" 2.Prove that all we are doing is complaining, and not brainstorming solutions to the problem. 3.Prove that we are not encouraging our peers to post their ideas. I assert that since this guild is dedicating to saving the Extended Discussion Forum, we are encouraging everyone to actively have extended discussions. Quote: Instead of harrassing those who dilute our literary, Prove that we are harrasing people. Quote: knowledgable discussions with unwelcomed spam (because we all know we're better than everyone else for posting in ED), Hasty generalization. I, for one do not think I am better than anyone else because I post in the Extended Discussion Forum, so you usage of the word "we" is a hasty generalization for including every member of this guild. Please note also that there are 227 members in this guild and I doubt that you know each member personally, and every member has not posted, so therefore you should not make the hasty generalization of them to say that they think they're better than everyone else for posting in ED. Hasty generalizations are my highest pet peeves. Quote: we ought to be supporting their participation. We should be comfortable if anyone with any amount of experience and sophistication with words posts on the ED forum. That is the beauty of ED. Any Gaian can post there. It is true that any Gaian can post in ED, but if you are asserting that people breaking the rules and guidelines of ED, you must prove this assertion, because people get warned/punished for doing so. We should be seen as helping those who break the rules when we correct them, because by doing so we are trying to teach them, and if they accept our corrections, they can avoid being warned/punished. I would like you prove that we are uncomfortable with people of different levels of experiences and sophisitications. I must also note that by using the word "we" all by itself, you are making a statement about our group as a whole, so in order not to make another hasty generalization you must prove that assertion of each and every one of us. I personally do not mind if a person is new to ED if that person reads the rules and tries to adide by them. As for sophistication, I am assuming that you are defining sophistication as,"the process or result of becoming more complex, developed, or subtle" and not "the use of sophistry : sophistic reasoning :SOPHISM, QUIBBLE : the process or result of becoming cultured, knowledgeable, or disillusioned; especially : CULTIVATION, URBANITY" (Merriam-Webster), but please correct me if I have assumed wrongly. I assert that a specific posting style is needed for the ED, and that posting style is one that tries to avoid logical fallacies (such as hasty generalization, argument from ignorance, shifting the burden of proof, ect.), one that contributes well to the discussion (a post that is more than one line long), one that stays mostly on topic, or at tries to stay on topic, and one that does not flame, abuse, or spam. ( Source.)Thus, the sophistication needed in the ED forum is not something that is hard to achieve. The posts should contribute to the discussion, so they need to be complex to that extent. You must keep this in mind though, just because someone does not have a good enough post, does not mean that you can generalize us all and say that we all discourage everyone who doesn't meet the ED standard from posting. I personally enocurage these people to post. I encourage these people to take part in extended discussion. I encourage them by showing them how they can post with sophistication. Quote: We, as self-proclaimed "literates" (because it's so much more than being able to write) Again with the usage of the word "we" by itself. Prove that this is not another hasty generalization and that we all proclaim ourselves as "literates". Quote: have brought this problem down upon ourselves. By being exclusive, we deny people freedom of speech. The ED has posts like these because we deny people freedom of speech?! Prove your assertions. Quote: We are elitist, and you know it. Hasty generalization for the loose. I must repeat myself, there are 227 members of this guild. I have invited members that other EDers would definitely not call elite. I have invited new people. I have invited people whom I personally know are humble. Your assertion fails, miserably. Quote: The solution is to encourage, not forbid. Promote, not petition. So I see that after that whole post, you were agreeing with us, because we are encouraging, and we are not forbiding (we as a whole that is, I offer myself up as a counter-example). We are promoting. You have failed to prove that petitions will not solve anything. You have failed to prove that we are not encouraging. You have failed to prove that we are forbiding. You have failed to prove that we are not promoting. Abort? Retry? Fail?

Heh. I see an unfortunate issue with our guild. If there is a rule against "spam" in ED, any topic not relating to extended discussion will be deleted, yes? Well, if we try to make a topic involving proof that ED is on its way downhill, it will simply be deleted. Someone would probably be banned in the process, I suppose. It seems ridiculous to attempt to battle the irrational system we have going.
I'm beginning to think that noobs, spammers, trolls, etc. are unbeatable. It's human nature to be greedy, and human nature to stay ignorant if one doesn't want to at least try to learn rules. These people who annoy US so much don't care if someone tries to educate them or stop their greediness. The trolls... they only want to get in, have sex with our gold, and leave with it; there is no concern for our happiness.
How can we even begin to contemplate destroying human ignorance and greed? The most annoying ones list their birthdates as anywhere from 1991-1993; unfortunately, this means they perpetuate the young = immature stereotype. How can we stop this? I will work with any action-oriented ideas, and I agree with Yoshimasha: we must ACT. The only question is: how to act without being considered a nuisance by our come-and-go Mods?

I will work with any action-oriented ideas, and I agree with Yoshimasha: we must ACT. The only question is: how to act without being considered a nuisance by our come-and-go Mods? The answer is simple - we don't. And by that I don't mean we neglect acting; I mean we simply act, and if we become a nuisance, too effing bad. The mods had their chance to stand up and solve the problem – they did not. This site does not use IP bans; if worse comes to worst, we can just use dud accounts and keep making more and more until the mods open their damned ears. In ED, I posted a topic once about evolution and technology, asking about whether or not people believed that technology WAS our evolution (and why or why not). I posed debate, I explained my side, and I explained it as well as I could (multiple paragraphs). About 5 pages in, it got GD’d while topics like “WHITES DUE TO DIE OUT IN 10 YEARS” or whatever remained. So, I reposted, stating that I would continue to repost it in ED until I got the explanation I wanted. The mods didn’t ban me, nor did they explain, nor did they delete my thread – they simply ******** off. In short, I hate to say it, but our current mods are spineless ninnies who think abusing powers makes them cool. Half of them want everything to be happy and agreeable so they don’t ever do a damned thing, while the other half (*cough* D!no *cough*) delete everything that is by people they hold a personal grudge against. I repeat – they HAD their chance to solve the problem. So if they don’t like us taking matters into our own hands, too bad. They can’t ban us all, and if they do, we’ll just make new accounts and come back stronger due to our anger. We _will_ overcome this. The mods are just going to have to deal with us doing so.

There is no easy way to act without overturning Gaia itself. This, I believe is out only option. We will be able to create a better, new Gaia from this one. The very principles this place is based on are flawed. We would have to go to the administrators and demand a re-writing of the rules and mass mod firing and hiring. WE would have to over-turn the entire staff of Gaia to do what we want done in a perfect situation. We are not enough people to cause a change by boycotting the site. We are only 300 in number now and we would have to be in the thousands to make a difference that way. Like I have stated before, we need fresh ideas. What I just said cannot be done by us. We must find some unconventional means and act with them. Some loophole or somesuch that would grant us some authority beyond the normal limits. We must act, you are correct. But how will we act?!

If I were new here, and had experienced nothing of the administrators and moderators, then I would fully agree with you. I know you are obviously intelligent and experienced in Gaia, but this idea is a bit brash. I was in a 1000+ member army before, and its attempts to get Mods to stop spam in its forums were ignored, basically.
The owners and moderators are ridiculous, if you ask me. It is very hard to reason with them, and I don't see how we can find any "loopholes". This isn't a conventional human system with a constitution, it's the internet. Everyone knows that the owners of an internet site don't have to listen to begging by intellectuals, for their help. We need.. hm... I don't know! I wish to help, though... but I notice 227 members have joined, yet only about 10 frequent the forum.

I have a thought: if there was a price on every reported post you made (say twice the ammount you got for making it), I bet people would be a little more careful. People would spam less, because if they spam to get gold, but then get twice as much taken away, it would be defeating their purpose, wouldn't it?
