The Knights
"Ours is not just a job. It is a calling to the highest degree. We are the arm of the law. We uphold justice and ensure the safety of the people in the cities, in the towns, in the wilderness, and in the homes and palaces alike.
We patrol the streets and keep them safe. We serve, and we protect. If there is a citizen in need, we will be there to give them aid as best we can. That is our vow, and we uphold it to the utmost."

The Company of the Knights of Dae'in
Less a guild than an actual force in and of itself, the Knights of Dae'in are nonetheless a large and influential group. They are the literal police force of the land, with a branch located in every city and some outposts scattered elsewhere in strategic locations. The knights are not an army but more of an all-purpose security force, acting to protect and serve the citizens in whatever way they need. From finding lost children in busy marketplaces to helping direct the flow of wagons on market days, to arresting hardened criminals and breaking up bar fights, many and varied are the jobs these generous souls perform.
The knights can be called on to the patrol the streets, day and night. They can work undercover to break up bands of smugglers and slave traders. Their wisdom--and force of authority--are often necessary to mediate arguments between citizens.
However, the knights function also as pure law enforcement, as those who make arrests and imprison folk who break the law and harm people individually or society in general. The knights are often skilled in many tasks, and while they are kind to those in need, they can be quite severe to those who choose to break the order of the cities.

Company Headquarters
The central headquarters of the Knights of Dae'in is a massive stone complex in the capital city. The complex is more like a fortress, as it houses its own private gardens and supply stores, as well as practice fields, a gymnasium of sorts, and all of the necessary equipment, facilities, and space to train and house a hundred or more knights-in-training at a time. The main building, the one that is freely open to the public, holds many offices and is manned by several knights at a time, all ready to receive public complaints, settle differences, and transmit word out to their fellow knights on the streets as to what must be done. Barracks are also on the grounds for those knights who don't have homes and families elsewhere in the city.
The headquarters of the other branches of the knights are similarly set up, if not so large. Their size is based mostly how many knights work and train in that particular city. Some cities also have specific branches within the knights. Port cities also have seagoing knights who man ships that patrol the harbor for any sign of lawbreaking or seafarers in distress.
The outposts vary in size. Most are simply guard posts in the middle of rural areas with a half a dozen knights who are on call by the locals. These knights rarely see any serious law enforcement work, usually only settling disputes and keeping a sharp eye out for roving bands of miscreants who like to prey on unprotected villagers.

Guild Ranks
Pages
Pages tend to be adolescents. They are the lower ranking knights-in-training. Some were sent to the knights for discipline, and some chose the calling. They are given physical, strategic, and academic training and are often run from dawn 'til dusk.
Squires Squires are a rank above pages. They are older, more experienced trainees and tend to enjoy bossing the pages. Squires are generally into more complicated sort of training, and almost all of the squires intend to enter the service as a knight and aren't simply present for the education and the sense of discipline.
Knights Now formally among the ranks of the policing and investigating force, the people who make it this far are truly dedicated to their jobs. At this point, they usually start to branch out into specialties, depending on their skills, location, and experience. Those knights that aren't as inclined to be out and about or who have become too disabled to perform their duties often become teachers for the new trainees.
Lieutenants Lieutenants are supervisors of a specific branch or specialty. They are generally very skilled at whatever specialty they head, even if they spend as much time supervising and organizing as they do actually performing rescues or public service.
Captains Captains oversee all the specialties and supervise all of the knights in a specific city or area. They generally do more supervising than actual public service. They work on organizing manpower, working on facility improvements, and making sure that the trainees are probably taught and disciplined. In busier, more populated areas, there can be multiple captains with one acting as the ultimate head of that branch of the knights.
Knight Council The dozen or so members of the knight council are elected from amongst the captains or, rarely, very gifted lieutenants. Most of these knights are reaching middle-age and have been in their specialties for many, many years. Some are more political in temperament while others are still warriors--albeit, old and intelligent ones--at heart. The council oversees every knight and trainee, as well as appeals to rulers and private parties for funding for the knights.
Bladeknight The honorary title of bladeknight is given to the head of the knight council. He (or she) is the one who makes final decisions in the matters of the knights. The bladeknight is generally the longest-serving member of the council, though the other council members can elect a different leader if they feel it is necessary.

Specialties/Divisions
Patrol General patrol is the division in which most knights start their career. It encompasses patrolling the streets and buildings of a city or the towns and villages of a larger, less densely-populated area. Helping out citizens in need, tracking down lost children, breaking up streetfights, and generally keeping the place safe is the job for these folk. Most knights move past this, but some enjoy the streets too much and keep on with it for their entire career.
Harbor Patrol Coastal cities with harbors have this specific division of knights. Seagoing knights, usually those with strong stomachs and water-going experience, help to keep the harbors clear of smugglers and pirates, as well as assist those who are having boat trouble. Harbor patrol also watches over and maintains the beaches.
Mountain Patrol Knights with the mountain patrol are only prevalent in rural areas of higher elevation. These knights are often bonded with wyrms and patrol the higher elevation areas, assisting travellers who get themselves into a bind and maintaining roads over and though mountains, keeping bandits and roadside criminals at bay.
Crime Investigation These knights are the detectives of the world of Ranothor, investing time and energy into long-term cases such as mysterious deaths, slave trades, smuggling enterprises, and other such illicit activities. These knights often spend several years on patrol, getting a sense of the city, before they turn to this specialty.
Undercover Operations Undercover operations is a subunit of Crime Investigation. These knights specialize in going deep underground to investigate the truly sinister workings of crime in the land. Evil coups in the works, massive smuggling operations, and other such issues are ones that these brave knights are most inclined to investigate.
