So, yeah, according to the "Official Handbook,"Kakashi's favorite food is salt-broiled sanma (saury) and miso soup with eggplant. At first, I was like, eh, what in the heck is that stuff? But then I saw a picture of it, and it looks good. Really good.
So now, ladies and gentleman, I present to you a new series I am making. it's basically me posting the recipes of the favorite foods of the various Naruto characters. Of course I'm starting with Kakashi, so here we go!

Oh, and if you make this recipe, and post a picture of the food, I'll give ya some gold.

Saury with Salt
This recipe is modified from the very awesome Bob and Angie, a Japanese cooking site that an English section. Check it out!


What You Need:
4 sauries ("sanma"), salt
Garnishes: 1/4 Japanese radish ("daikon")
1 1/2 soy sauce ("shoyu")
2 small citrus fruits ("sudachi") (like.. limes)

What To Do:
1. Cut fish into halves and salt lightly.
2. Broil the fishes for about 10 minutes in the oven (preferably gas, but electric will work... maybe... haha) preheated to about 500F (250C).
3. Grate the daikon (Japanese radish) and then place grated daikon on bamboo mat ("makisu"), roll and squeeze out water. (I don't see why you can't use a paper towel... unless you're a very fancy professional chef. Like me. Hoo hoo, just kidding.)
4. Cut the citrus fruits in half. Set them to the side.
5. Place the fishes on gorgeous serving plate - no paper plates! Stay classy, KFU. Lightly garnish with soy sauce - don't drown the fish- and the citrus fruits.

Miso Soup with Eggplant
This recipe is modified from the very awesome Global Gourmet, an international recipe site.


What You Need:
1 quart water
2 tablespoons of miso
1 carrot -- chopped
2 scallions -- chopped
1/2 cup tofu -- cubed
1 cup eggplant -- julienned (a fancy word for cut into small thin strips. Hey, I taught you something!)

What To Do:
1. Bring water to a boil, and add miso.
2. Mash to dissolve.
3. Add carrots, scallions, tofu and eggplant.
4. Cook until vegetables are tender.
5. Serve!

At least it sounds quite good and it makes me wanna try it out. But I need to translate a couple of words because I don't know what kind of fish saury is, nor what scallions are or exactly what miso is(I've just never thought any closer on it) sweatdrop Whatever, I'll ask my super-awesome English teacher on Thursday 3nodding

arrow scallions: spring onions (lil' biddy onions, used a lot in Vietnamese food. I like Vietnamese food a lot, so that's my example.)
arrow saury: my dictionary is saying it's a needlefish. Try your grocer's seafood aisle, or a fish market. If Saint Louis has a fish market (Saint Louis, my city, is in the middle of the US - no access oceans people! Yet we have a fish market!) then most other cities should have a fish market.)
arrow miso: Soybean paste. if your local grocery store doesn't have, try an Asian market.

Needlefish!? Is it related to fugu/pufferfish? Just curious ninja Eh... I dunno if we have a fish market where I live, I think the town's a tad bit too small sweatdrop I don't think I've seen an Asian store either. It'll likely be quite tricky for me to get needlefish and soybean paste, but I can try. Maybe I can use some other fine white fish instead...? I'll ask my fine restaurant teacher if I can make it someday and if we can get all the ingredients.

Has spoken with my fine restaurant teacher, given her copies of the recipies, and she was all like 'Ooh, miso soup!' Unfortunately I won't be making it for a few months because right now we have our hands full with Christmas foods and after the holiday break I'll be doing a period of big kitchen cooking. But I've been promised I can make it and when I do I'll bring you pics.

I wish I could try that, but I have fish allergies and absolutely hate miso soup.... sweatdrop
Last year my Japanese class went to a Japanese restaurant and none of as had the miso soup because it tasted odd. The miso stuff was floating there cold and everything so we chucked an ice cube in it. 5 seconds later the miso devoured the ice cube eek
I tried miso soup again when I went to Japan... bleh.

even if Kakashi likes that stuff i wouldnt eat it...maybe the saury but not the miso or eggplant i hate them ( cry sorry guys) but i'd try it cuz ninjas always try out new things! pirate
