I think they are just nothing more than a way for people to put people in catorgories, opening the door to critism and steryotypical (sp?) views

They're a way for people to completely disregard a genre just because they have a prejudice against any band that even remotely resembles one band considered "Emo" or "Screamo" or s**t like that.

I believe in labels for genres of music like by saying "Screamo" you can tell it will have screaming and can be a way to find new music you like. But I don't agree with it for people or fashion styles. It just causes so much trouble. A week or so ago at my local shopping centre, a couple with dyed black hair were walking past McDonalds and about 6 girls all wearing major brand names like Nike, etc. threw McDonalds at them and repeatedly yelled "Emo" at them. It's wrong.

One may speak about another, though may not actually know the other. . . . I just made that up off the top of my head. And . . . Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Which is somewhat related. And if you heard that before, then you obviously know I didn't make that up. xD
Yeah. Uh . . . I guess you could say I'm a poet. ninja

Labels are a part of life. Obviously their are exceptions to somethings, and subcultures are all effected differently, but if I see a guy in black BDUs and an anarchy symbol on his chest I'm going to think Anarchist. If I see a kid with a shaved head boots and braces im going to think skin. I see a kid in with black hair, tripp pants, a slipnot shirt, and heavy make-up im going to think mall goth.

Dont get me wrong. Life doesnt come down to labels, you gotta get to know the person to actually see what they are like, but if I find out someone is a nazi I dont want to get to know them. I'd rather just hit them with a bat or something.

Gay isn't a label. Thats just what overly masculine asswhips use as an insult for people they dont like.
Orientation isn't a label. Atleast to me. Its a choice. I'm straight and I dont insult people who are gay. I dont insult people who look gay. I insult emo kid who whine like bitches, and wonder why they can't get girlfriends though

Labels get miss-used. Label's are part of society, people category things to make it easier for them to understand, even people. Seeing a group of girls in short skirts one may think "tarts!" or someone dressed all in black and make think "Goth!". I suppose that sort of labeling is fine, its when you start going up and taking the mick out of someone for their "label" is when the problem comes in.

Like Holly said, labelling is a part of life and society and can't be avoided. Everyone does it. For example chavs. They're stereotyped into being the scum of England, but a lot of my friends are branded chav because of the way they dress, but they wouldn't do any of the stuff people usually associate with chav behaviour, whereas a lot of my punk-ish friends would. They're all lovely, individual people, but they do have labels.
For example, Cameron is EMO! Lol! Love ya Billy Buster! Btw, how's your lip?

Amy! Your right about the Chav thing, it goes for Emo's as well. Everything seems to have a label according to the human mind.
Lol You should have seen Cam's lip he looked like an elephant!

Really? Damn, I wish I'd seen it. Damn you Cameron for skiving school! Well, he should learn not to eat when he can't feel his mouth. Ijit. Lol! Midge was complaining he couldn't kiss her cause it hurt.
And you know what else is funny? - this time to do with the thread. Most of the real chavs in our school don't even know what an emo is. They think it's just another name for goths. Lol!
