Erm, we have a concert in two days and my flute decided that D,E flat, E, and F were all gonna stop playing. We checked all of the springs and the like and could find nothing wrong. Also, it's just the ones in the staff that don't work. The upper octaves are fine. Is there anybody who's experienced this before and may be able to tell me what the problem is?

Perhaps it has some major leaks?
Something similar happened to me right before foot fire, but it was just one of the screws.

Same thing happens to my flute every now and then.
Are you sure the keys aren't sticky or something? Do a major cleaning on your flute. That was my problem. I'm so lazy when it comes to cleaning my beloved flute ;P

Well if you all clean your flutes then nothing bad will ever happen to them unless someone steals them I should know it happened before and I stilll haven't found my first flute I got and it was from the school I had to pay it back but got a different flute. But back to what you were saying if you just clean your flute a lot and then nothing should happen to it and then your flute will be very clean. blaugh I hoped that helped sweatdrop

Did you check all the screws? I once had that happen and it turned out a screw was loose.
Or else it could be a sticky key. When was the last time you had your flute serviced?

My flute is magical now x.x I didn't touch it at all between yesterday and this afternoon, and it's perfectly fine.
But in case it pops up again, it was playing as if there was a screw loose, but we (my section, the director, and I) checked it over and over and couldn't find any out of place. The director thought it may be a leak, but we couldn't find any of those either. I don't quite understand why a sticky key would make four notes on a flute not come out. Care to explain?

Well one time I had a sticky key on 4 notes before. But I'm like the most lazyiest flute cleaner ever too... but having a sticky key has nothing to do with sticky keys.

I had the exact same problem before. You might need a new cork. Try to tighten your crown, if it just keeps twisting then you need a new cork; although since it's working now it might tighten.
I had the same thing happened to me: those notes wouldn't work and I needed a new cork, but if it get's cold or humid the cork will expand and your flute will work again. So if it is your cork, you'll need a new one soon.
You also might want to check and make sure your screws aren't too tight, because that can screw up your flute too.

I don't know how to explain what to do though, it is really easy to fix, but I am not that talented at explaining things..........sorry.

My flute is tempermental, and decides randomly when to not play. It usually happens the day after I don't clean her. Which is something I have only failed to do when I was dead tired. Also, the highest A-flat refuses to come out. I've had my BD, and several repair men look, but there is absolutely nothing wrong. But she still won't play.

Strange. I still recommend that you get it serviced though. Mine wasn't playing well, and I had it serviced. They replaced several of the pads and that and it played so well afterwards.
