Imperial City of Apothos

Location:

The imperial city is located on the large fertile island of Beyon, which is isolated from the main continent of Gaia. Thousands of kilometers from the opening into the sea of Gambino. Two rivers border the city, to the east lies the great river Barmis, while only kilometers to the west of the city border is the river Tellmi.

Description:

Home to over three million, Apothos is the capital of the Beyon empire. From this city roads and rail line stretch in every direction across the island to a multitude of port towns that receive and carry goods to a variety of other islands and regions.

Central Manifest

The central manifest is contains the palace and the houses of the noble aristocracy. The palaces of the Imperial Aristocracy, the senate chamber, and the office of the Noble's Prefect stretches for half a kilometer in a narrow strip of circle until the palace is reached. Most of the estates here are sprawling mansions, home to the aristocracy and their slaves.

Defense- Around the central manifest is what appears to be a stone wall, but the stone is a mere facade, it is a two meter thick steel wall. Every ten meters the thickness of this wall increases by five meters on each side, as inside each of these squares are generators for an energy shield designed to protect the palace in the event of an attack. The system is an ancient technology, its power source coming from an order of mages kept in the Imperial house for millenia. These mages power the generators by casting their magics.

The Imperial Palace

The Imperial Palace is a massive ziggurat tower that has been standing for over three thousand years, the central radius of which stretches over a kilometer at the base. Upon entering the massive bronze gates, one is confronted by a dark main hall adorned columns shaped in the forms of the former Kings and emperors of Apothos. At the sides of the main hall are the passage ways that lead to various lower imperial offices, slaves quarters, even to internal stables or garages.

The basement of Apothos Tower is a massive prison and dungeon where the troublemakers in the city are kept. It is well guarded, by no means a pleasant place to stay. Each cell is a windowless room carved into the bedrock stone underneath the tower, the front reinforced by hardened steel bars. The bars and the stone are carved and printed with pretty designs, but they are not for viewing, they suppress magic and elemental power, making it deadly for the user. Each cell has a pile of straw and a potty bucket, though there is barely enough room to lay down.

In the center of this main way one would find themselves flanked by the quarters of the Imperial Order of Protective Mages. These mages, numbering in the thousands, are supposed to spend their days in constant meditation in prayer, thus preparing their spiritual powers to activate the defense system of the central manifest. Their quarters within the palace reflect their importance, and though they keep to the lower floor, their rooms are numerous and even posh in comparison with the slaves barracks in the lower sections. The Most High Mage keeps an office rivaling that of the Emperor himself. The head of this post often surpasses the authority of the Emperor, even though the mages are supposed to keep out of politics and never leave the central manifest.

The Imperial Senate itself is located in the center floor of the tower, the thousand senators of the empire conduct business and votes in this chamber, all of which are subject to the Veto of the king if the senate can not muster a majority of at least four-fifths. The large chamber has a theater like semi-circle of seats around the podium of the speaker. This chamber encompasses an entire floor of the tower, having a radius of just under a half kilometer. Both above and below are bureaucratic offices of the senate and the departments of the Imperial government.

The very top floor of the tower contains the king's palace, and his offices are directly below it. The kings palace is two story mansion built into the tower itself. Inside are a multitude of chambers and guest rooms. Everything the king could want or need is built into his palace. There is an olympic swimming pool, a fully staffed four star restauraunt for the king's purposes, several elegant bedchambers from which he may chose to sleep, each with a differing theme for his night time pleasure. There is a full movie theater and stage for his entertainment. A grand chapel of the Imperial religion is built into the palace so that the king may worship alone or with an entourage of his choosing.

Senari Prefect:

This is a crowded sector west of the central manifest. Here the shadow of the tower falls upon a crowded slum of poorly constructed clay and brick apartments. A great mass of poor migrants to the city live, many of which are too poor to feed themselves and rely on a dole of free grain. It is a flat land, separated into two sections by a the great Tellmi River. It is so poor that many inhabitants don't even have electricity or running water.

There is little merchant activity in the Senari prefect. The poverty and labyrinthine layout of the cheaply constructed dwellings lends itself to making this a base for the thieves who prowl the Denari district.

Denari Prefect:

South of the central manifest is the commercial heart of Apothos, yet it is strangely underdeveloped in comparison with other cities of Beyon. There are a few modern skyscrapers in the heart of this prefect, but nothing spectacular compared to the commercial hearts of other cities. Here can be found shops, malls, department stores, theaters, banks and other amenities of modern society. Some of the older buildings have been converted into expensive apartments, where merchants, military officers, and outer government bureaucrats reside. The streets here are fairly wide, made of asphalt as opposed to the flattened dirt roads that dominate the Senari Prefect. This prefect also contains several museums and libraries, and is known as the center of Delfos culture.

The train station is located in this district, it is a grand old temple like structure with a massive lobby. The station itself is surrounded by the shops and stores of the merchant district.

Quintilius Prefect:

In this prefect is located the office of taxation, a thick ten story building where the tax collection efforts of the empire are coordinated. There is a residential district of humble brick and stone homes for the bureaucrats and accountants who work for the empire in assessing the taxation of every citizen in every province of the empire.

The King Veritax airport, a multiple terminal airport with twenty one runways, can be found in this sector of the city.

The capitol garrison of the Imperial Military is based here. The uniform military apartments for the soldiers taking up a considerable portion of the prefect's land.

Except for the central manifest, the city is unwalled. However, the capital garrison consists of ten thousand of the empire's most highly trained defensive soldiers. There are multiple posts and defensive positions surrounding as area up to ten kilometers from the frontier of the city. These positions can theoretically be fully manned and equipped within ten minutes.

*Walking around the city, Ruric takes a seat at a nearby streetcorner*
Heh, This place is pretty big. *looks around* I wonder where the temple section of this city is. *Ruric decides to ask somone nearby*
Excuse me kind sir. May I enquire as to where the temple section of this fine city is? *Feeling much confidence in his ability to communicate, Ruric never really visited a city of this size before. Most places Ruric went were small villages and hamlets with no goverment*

The little dwarf would see a convoy of red Giats passing through the main boulevard of the Quintilius Prefect if he was close enough. It wouldn't be long before the convoy reached the outer gates of the convoy. In the distance were one or two modern sky scrapers, though the skyline of the city seemed bare if you weren't looking toward the massive imperial tower.

As soon as their vehicle came to a halt, Zetsu scrambled to get outside. He was more than a bit sore from riding in the Giat too long, and he had to be first to be outside.

Once outside, he leaned against the red shell of the vehicle and waited for what they were to do next.

Damian having already dismounted earlier from the Giat because his position as look out had him the easiest route out, was leaning against the red vehicle and watched with a little humor Zetsu's attempt to get out of the vehicle. He was still relatively unsure of their mission but from the looks of things, there aren't any huge armies besieging the capital or any thing of the like. It just seems like any ordinary day here.
"Ah, Apothos. Its been a long time since I've been here. Not since long ago when I broke out of their prison. Then again, it did cost me quite a bit." Damian says quietly and dreamily like he is stuck in a flashback. His eye icon slowly drifts to look at one of his hands where it is obvious parts of the hand itself is mechanical. "Chaos majick is damn hard enough without damn wards everywhere. Oh well that was then and this is now." He continues, still obviously just talking to himself. Most of the people who have traveled with Damian here should be used to the fact Damian often thought out loud or carried conversations on with himself.
Damian just starts to move forward in his usual fast but surprisingly silent walk of his. His eye icon starts to move around the dark abyss of his mask when he came to a stop scanning for weapons or hostile intents of others.

Yasura growled to herself as she paced along the edge of a tall building that rose fairly high above her. She looked towards the ground, trying not to make eye contact with anyone, and watched her feet as well as the four belonging to her large black wolf, Jethro, who watched Yasura closely.
She was sick to death of people and big cities, she wanted peace and quite. Her hands lay in the pockets of her large trench-coat that seemed to engulf her body and only the bottom of her shoes could be seen.
Yasura tilted her head up into the sun.

Where the hell is he? - She thought. A sure sign of panic flashed across her face.

She spotted a near-by park bench. Jethro galloped towards it softly growling and starring at people trying to get near it. Yasura was weary. She sat on the bench and buried her face into her hands. Jethro sat on the bench besides her watching the many swarms of people walk past.

Adaire wasn't used to sitting still so long, so she didn't, her personal APC had an exercise treadmill on which she maintained a brisk pace the whole trip, as if she wanted to run to Apothos, or from it. Poor Zetsumeii had to sit and watch her work out while she said very little except for the occasional light conversation. She hadn't been in a very conversive mood, and probably ignored him more than she wanted too as she ran with a worried look, though Zetsu slept a lot as he would find the seating quite plush, lining the inside all the way around and quite good to stretch out and rest. For running at about twelve kilometers an hour the whole trip up she had only started to break a sweat. They stopped prematurely, and Zetsu rushed to get out. She wondered if she was starting to smell bad.

"Is my company that bad?" she teased, grabbing a towel and following him out, "This is the Quintilius Prefect, we've passed the military base, the Veritax air port is just off this boulevard, barely a kilometer away, but the Quintilius gate into the capitol is still two kilometers ahead."

She looked toward to see Damien running off. She was used to his stories, had heard many of them before, though every now and then he came off with something she hadn't heard. Now was one of those times.

"General!" she called, "Try and keep your form disguised, I don't know how the people here feel about other races with the recent break away of West Fall and Telligenic."

She looked to the sky anxiously.

"Where's Gear, how are the others?" Adaire asked pensively, "Did we keep organized?"

“Of course it isn’t you, I just hate riding in anything enclosed for too long. I’ve never been here either. Kinda wanna check the place out...I’ll need to find a smithy somewhere anyways. The only weapon I have on me is pretty broken.”

The autorevolver in the now-visible holster looked fine from what people could see, but under the leather was a heavily damaged relic. Scratches and gouge marks had scarred the steel of the gun, which was now useless.

He hadn’t moved from leaning against the vehicle and continued to watch from the spot, taking note of Damiens’ actions and Adaires’ worrisome nature.

“We shouldn’t worry about him, I’m sure he’ll be around sooner or later. He’s a smart guy.”

"You want 7th Avenue at the border between the Quin and Den Prefects," Adaire explained, "The best blacksmith shop in the Empire, maybe the world, is to be found there. Some old geezer by the name Count Drago."

Adaire didn't know that Drago had been dead for a few years, and that the shop was now run by his son.

"I suppose we should rest here, take a headcount, and resupply before we move on, don't you think?"

Adaire smiled slightly as took in uniform structure of the buildings here. It wasn't overly busy, so she supposed the yearly taxes were not due soon. She checked to make sure her hair was still back in a braid, even though she was a little damp with sweat. her stomach growled, all that exercise had made her hungry. scream

"To the rations!"

He looked over at her with a mildly surprised look on his face, a question visibly waiting to be asked just etched on his face.

"Well it's nice to know you know your way around here! I can wait awhile to get it fixed though...It'd make sense to get this little job over with before I go out and get anything done."

Adaire
"I suppose we should rest here, take a headcount, and resupply before we move on, don't you think?"

"That sounds reasonable enough.."

At the mention of food, Zetsu shifted his weight back onto his feet as he moved to the side of Adaire and peered into the vehicle.

"..We brought food?"

Syre milled around on the outskirts of the Quintilius Prefect.
"Blast these high taxes, just because i have money, dosent mean i want to give it to you!" He muttered rather loudly to himself.
Pacing he tried hard to think of a way to avoid the taxation. Were where the good old black market banks to hide you money in when you needed them? Thow not even that would work if he wanted to keep the high life that he was now accustomed to.

Gear flew in from a distance, quickly landing on the ground, his boots powering down. He stood from his three-point crouch and looked around. "Someone said something about food?" he asked.

Finally getting directions to the temple district, Ruric started walking towards the direction he was pointed.
"Finally, I start my journey master has left me"
Thinking back to his masters dying words those many years ago.
Ruric fell suprised when he realized how far he had traveled from his homelands. "It is only a matter of time before I reach the next level in my training" He thought, as he hummed a cheery tune.

Having sat down about ten minutes ago on the ground, and still not coming up with any thing, Syre decided he probably wouldent get anything and maybe it would be better to just pay up. So he stood and walked grimly twords the tax building.

"Maybe a little bit," she said.

She had packed some light snacks in the refrigerator, which the vehicle did have built in, as did the other vehicles, as they were luxury APC. Adaire liked her officers to have the best.

"We're eating at the Grand Manifest Sky Palace, so let's make this a light brunch."

She punched a code on her data organizer, sending everyone a text that there would be a hour break for a light snack and relaxation. Everyone in the convoy would receive the message. It wasn't like she was overly anxious to get to the tower anyway.
