Yeah, we just started the guild, but I'm interested how familiar you are with the flight sim. I've been with the sim since 2001 and all the expansions/addons they've released until now.
I've been flying with a squad on and off and I've read numerous sources on how to dogfight, ground pound, bomb, etc. I'm not perfect, but there is always a challenge that the sim and dogfighting in general offers.
So...how familiar are you with this sim and or flight sims in general?

I think I originally bought the game in 2002. At that time I really couldn't appreciate the intense realism of it, so the high learning curve turned me off. Four years later I went back to the series and purchased the Ultimate Edition. Now I'm patiently awaiting the release of the next addon.

I am just joining in on this game with 1946. I've played the CFS series quite a bit but it left me wanting more. The graphics and community are nothing compared to Il-2 though.

Sounds good so far. I have to mention that the learning curve is indeed steep. It can be a bit challenging, but the sim does offer various levels of enjoyment. It can be played solely as arcade game play if setup right, or it can be setup for pure realism, that gets pretty hard core.
I think over time as we work with the IL2 1946 I can help point out those things and maybe even host a couple sessions now and then.
I just need to sit tight as the release comes out this month! I can't Wait!! crying

I can't Wait!! crying Ah, I can fly fairly well. The whole training in the civilian sim FS9 helped we with the basics, and a bit of trial and error got me good at CFS3. I can't wait till the 18th, the day my copy will most likely arrive. Sadly, I have to wait until the 25th to play it. My current flight stick is total crud, no twisting handle and few buttons. I can't wait till I get my hands on the lovely X-52!

The 52 is an awesome stick! I have it too. Its a lot smoother than most out there, but it requires more movement room to get response. However, the game has input settings to change that.
I use the CH rudders instead of the twisty, but I use it only for realism purposes. Twisty has the same effect and you'll do fine with it.

I don't have the money for any pedals right now. A new keyboard, mouse, and headset are higher on my list of things to buy.

I use a flight stick called the Aviator. It's pretty slick, with its two throttles and the set of programmable switches on the back. It isn't the X-52, but I don't have the money for that right now.

The Aviator stick looks simple and I hear its a little stiffer than the X-52, which I'm interested in.

The 2 throttles and the switches would make it an excellent choice for civilian sims and maybe Il-2.

The scheduled release date at Gogamer was just changed to the 16th! If thats the case I should start seeing it sometime next week since I went with the "dirt cheap" shipment option. Almost there!

I got that shipping too. Did you order it before the price hike? I only had to pay 42.90 with S&H.

Yeah, thankfully I got it before the price hike. Also, I was at simhq.com's forum and Jason from GoGamer.com said that a very few orders were canceled due to processing issues with banks. So, if you got an email saying your order was canceled, which is probably unlikely, email Gogamer.com about your issue and they'll clarify it with you.

I just got my email so I can track my shipment. I have to wait though before I find out where it is.

Son of a bish! They just cancelled my order saying "While processing your order, we experienced difficulty in obtaining the proper authorization. At this time, your order has been cancelled for your protection."
They should still honor the original price, when I ordered it.
If any of you do get that cancellation notice, just email them at service@gogamer.com with the subject IL-2 1946 Cancellation Order #XXXXXXX
