I've got Monday Morning Apocalypse and think it's pretty amazing. Is any of their old stuff worth checking out?

why did you think i placed the cover of an album of them on the front page? blaugh
yes i know evergrey and i think monday morning is a "weak" album from them, still very good but the others a better, in my opinion.
i saw them live and really liked it, they can really play cool

Recreation Day is awesome and Solitude, dominance, tragedy too surprised That's an older album of them and widely praised as a good album of them. Hope that they will come to Graspop next year too <3

They got the Horus-model guitar of Caparison, that only is just enough for being cool.

I find Evergrey enjoyable one song at a time. No more or it'll be painfully repeatative. sweatdrop Maybe I'm too critical with bands but I just couldn't help noticing that every song in Recreation day album (I think that was its name) the theme is "I'm sorry" and it just keeps friggin repeating all the time throughout the album .... I mean, just how sorry can a person be?! scream
Well, anyway.. they have some really awesome tracks that I listen to constantly. However, they have a whole set of weaker songs that are skipped without a hesitation on my playlist.
... I like Blackened Dawn best.

i don't think they are too repeatative to be honest. maybe i will listen to it more, but i won't try that wink
the subject "i'm sorry" is rather stupid ideed. but you need to do something. some bands try someting new out. (thats why i like prog) but sometimes the new thing or theme just isn't that catchy, well too bad then smile

I get a lot of weird looks everytime I try to explain it. sweatdrop However, I stand by my opinion. wink Evergrey does have a lot of good stuff and there's no denying it. I just suppose it's just one of those bands that other people like and I don't. Heh, it's not like there aren't bands that no one else likes but I do. whee

They've played many times in Finnish festivals but I don't go to those at all, really. I heard they are good live and I can imagine that. Probably better live than on albums (some bands are like that). Just listened to Blackened Dawn.. still awesome. whee

yes ideed good album surprised
well the best bands play live better then on an album by my opinion. if a band can't play live then they are not worth to see.

I'm thinking of running out and getting some actual albums soon. I already have a few random Evergrey tracks, and I really enjoy it. smile Would you recommend I start off with 'Recreation Day?'

I'd actually say start with "Dark Discovery" and really go chronologically from there. I wouldn't recommend this with most bands, but with Evergrey it really does fit.
You hear the musical progression and changes and everything that way, and it all fits together.
Recreation Day was my first, actually, so if you don't want to go chronologically then I guess thats as good as anywhere else to start (except The Inner Circle, I just can't get into that album as much).
Monday Morning Apocalypse was good, but I don't think it really stands up to the greats like Solitude Dominance Tragedy and In Search of Truth, with the latter being probably my favorite album of theirs.
