Maia's wandering had led her further east than she imagined. She had taken an old wolfs advice and had not turned north - but had not intended to come so far east that she'd meet the barrier that faced her now : the ocean. She' never seen such a large body of water and was awed by it's immensity in size and sound. Listening to the crashing waves she padded forward, not sure what she'd do once she finally got to the great barrier; but she did want to go to it's edge now that she was here. The air was less full of ice here, though the wind was strong and cool, and she liked the short reprieve from the biting sting of more norther forests.
Her nose and togue tasted salt - an unfamiliar tangy flavour which almost seemed to fizz in her nostrils. Although earlier she had been able to pick up the telltale smell of many other wolves in this area her nose was now overcome by the strong aroma of the sea and stopped her from catching the scent of any others around.
Her eyes and ears, however, were alert and she scanned her surrounding with both, slightly wary of the fact she might have crossed into a wolf packs territory. The small orange and black female was getting a lot less wary of others but coming upon another, in a territory not her own, seemed more than a little dangerous.

The water was cold, cold cold cold. That was the bad part of fishing, yes. Especially if most of the time, the fish were in deeper waters. Fortunately for this male, this one had been carried by the waves to a closer point, still, his paws weren't touching the ground. He paddled towards the shore with ease, a fish clamped in his jaws, still flapping wildly.
But what was that orange, over there? Probably another wolf, oh joy. But hey, if it was a female... That would be nice! But though Trap's nose was already used to the salty air, he was no wonder wolf, and he couldn't tell from this far.
Along with his paddling, the male moved foreward thanks to waves, only it was annoying when they recoiled, and he actually moved a little back. Son enough, though, the wet wolf was on the shallows, wet, sandy and salty. He probably looked sort-of pathetic right now, but at least he would never compare to Scritchy, aka, Mar.
Contently, the male trotted onto shore, before remembering the orange blob. Now.. Where had that one been? The orange in the quite dull sand was pretty easy to spot, and the ex-beta trotted towards whatever, growing content as the scent became more distinguishable in a shorter distance.
"Ahoy! " Trap barked out, but the fish slipped and fell on the ground. It flailed, wanting to get away, but her stomped his front paw over it, snorting and looking scornfully down at it. The sandy male wasn't too close yet, but there were a few things he could tell, one, it was female, and two, she didn't smell much like someone from the coast. Probably more inside.

The orange and black female watched the approach of the sandy, white splashed wolf with a little apprehension. At first she thought about leaving in case it was his territory but when he didn't attack or even come towards her too fast sh relaxed a little. Her wolfish maw curled into a slight smile as she watched the fish in his mouth flail, having never seen such a sigh before she wondered how he held on to what looked like a slimy, slippery ceature!
He had the scent of the sea on him but also an unmistakably male, wolfish odour which she began to pick up as he came closer. A few weeks ago Maia might have run from this male but after a few reasonable encounters her views on males were beginning to become a little more grounded. They weren't so different from females, she thought now, each was different. Although caution should always be exercised in meeting new wolves, Maia was no longer more on her guard against males than females.
As he called out his welcome to her she allowed herself a few tail wags, wondering if she could have some company for a little while. As much as she enjoyed her wandering she didn't so much like being alone... "Hey!" she called back, padding forward with a slightly submissive posture, hoping he was as friendly as his manner seemed to show.

Ears tipped foreward as the female approached. Used to someone submissive around, namely Scritchy, Trap's tail lifted, but then he remembered women didn't usually like 'bullies', and it lowered, to seem more humble.
He smiled, half charming, half friendly. He half wanted to puff up with pride at her submission but.. then again, they liked the nicer guys, right? "Don't do that, makes me feel mean. " Well, not that he wasn't mean. His tail offered a wag, Trap had definately gotten used to being a fake.

"Mean?" she wondered aloud, coming to stand right in front of him, her head lifted a little. To be honest she really wasn't used to not being either scared of or submissive to others. She had truly had few people she was on an equal footing with and she was still only barely an adult. To her acting unobtrusive and slightly submissive were just ways to get through life a little more easily.
She righted herself a little, though. If the male didn't wish her to do so she wouldn't. There was no point in antagonising him, was there? She even allowed a few more friendly tail wags before speaking again. "I ... I didn't mean to intrude into your packlands if I have? I was just passing through.." her tone was soft, quiet but confidant. That confidance was the product of her travels - something she had lacked before leaving home and which was slowly growing as she socialised with others.

Whoa, this one seemed a little naive, didn't she?
Actually, that was good.
"My pack is disbanded. " His ears flickered backwards, and he frowned slightly, not that he'd tell her what his pack used to do. He sat down, shoulders relaxed, tail curled slightly around a hind paw. "What brings a fine lady like you to a place like this? "He asked, smile returning. "I can tell you're not from around here. "
The looked briefly at the fish, wich had stopped flopping around, and had finally died, sand sticking to its slippery sides.

Yet again she had bumped into another who was very different to any she'd met before. She wasn't used to this quick informality. It didn't bother her too much but she wasn't used to it.
Disbanded? she wondered too herself, wondering how that came about. She knew little about packs as she'd spent most of her life on her own with her mother or in a very small, loose knit pack. She didn't pry, though. She didn't want to reveal her own past so tended to refrain from asking others theirs.
She was a 'fine lady'? Maia almost laughed despite herself. Although she was sure she could take care of herself she still thought of herself as more of a child than adult - the result of too much over-protectiveness from her mother no doubts - and was unused to the kind of attention this sandy male was giving her. She truly was naive. "No.. I'm not from around here." she said carefully "I'm just travelling, no reason behind it. No end point." she replied to his question.
Watching his eyes flick to the fish her own followed and then came back to him. "What is that thing?" she said, motioning to the fish.

"But if yer travelin', there be a reason. " He said cooly, looking back at the female, but instead of pushing it, he decided better not to. He was talking 'normally' again, they might find that weird.
"Its a fish, you eat it. " He said, blinking. She hadn't eaten fish before? oh, impressing cue. "I go and catch them in the watter. Want it? Tastes good. " He pushed the fish towards her, tail wagging slighty. "It tastes funny at first. " This was an assumption; he'd been eating fish for so long he had no idea how it tasted to eat it for the first time.

Maia looked down at the fish with some wariness and just a little awe. "How do you catch something so... slippery?" she asked as she nosed at the silery thing which had been proferred to her.
Normally she'd not have taken food from another so easily but it was becoming hard to find prey at this time of year and she didn't find it easy to hunt at any time of year with such a bright orange pelt. The male also didn't look like he was finding it hard to hunt.
Her tongue flicked out and gave it a brief lick. It was salty but not entirely unpleasant. She used her canines to n** the very fine skin from it and try some of the rather gooey flesh. It was not unpleasant but it was unusual. Hungrily, she wolfed down a few more bites then looked up at the male, nose covered in bright fish scales "Thank you.." she smiled, her guard lowering due to his seemingly friendly nature. "It does taste unusual but.. good."

"It takes a lot of practice to get those. " Not so much, actually. As long as you knew where to look, and how to get them.. But she didn't have to know that, did she? He looked down at the so far naive seeming female as she tried the fish, ears foreward curiously.
"Ah, but your food is unusual to me. " Fish tasted more salty, he guessed. Something about woodland creatures was more 'sweet', though most meat was basically the same. Fish and woodland critters were different, that was for sure. While some other wolf might notice her messy maw, this was something Trap was all-too usefull.
Actually, the male himself wasn't usually this clean; Maia was lucky to have found him after a swim, he didn't usually care to clean himself. Actually, this had been fortunate for him too, made his image a bit better.
Though, he didn't really realise a crab creeping out of one of many holes in the beach, and moving unknowingly towards his tail. It swished, and it got startled, and followedclumsly after it, snapping with its little arms in the air, untill finally, it got something, and the male let out a small yelp and jumped up, flicking his tail and flinging it as far away as possible.
It wasn'treally that such a small pinch hurt for long or anything, but right at the moment, when his attention was somewhere else.. It was suprising.

As the male yelped and jumped so did Maia. As much as her guard was beginning to come down she still had a fair bit of wariness about her and when a strange wolf in front of you suddenly leapt about like a squirrel and yelped it was hard to keep yourself composed.
If she could have blushed she would have when she realised what had happened, saw the small pincer-armed critter sailing through the air, away from the rather surprised looking male. She tried to stop it, but a snorting giggle escaped her, echoing down the empty beach. It was her turn to look abashed. She didn't mean to make fun of this male who had given her food and was telling her such interesting things.
"Sorry.." she grinned, leaning her head to one side as if apologetically. "Is your tail ok?"

"Crab. " He snorted, looking in the direction of the crab as it slid into a hole, soon chased away by its habitant, as it hadn't tried getting back into its own hole. He lifted the side of his lips in its direction, as if daring it to try getting his tail again.
Hisattention wen't back to the female. He'd made a fool of himself, great! But wait.. It seemed to entertain her. "Yes, its ok. " He smiled as assuringly as he could, but most of the smile was at himself, this was going too well.

Maia was curious about the crab but stayed where she was. It seemed like the beach was this male's territory and she didn't want to just poke and prod around. She was intrigued by the whole fishing lark, though. She could see the sea was blue, Trap was not. This meant that one didn't neccessarily need to be the same shade as the water to catch fish, or at least, not close to it. She had always had trouble because her colouring was so bright and she wondered if she might learn to fish and catch creatures on the beach. Her coat colour was closer to sand than the dirt and brush of the forest though it really wasn't like either.
The female stood shyly, not sure what to do now. She wanted to stay here or... at least somewhere on the beach but she didn't like to just ask outright. She hadn't really been socialised properly by her reclusive mother and it showed. Her head darted side to side as she searched for something to say.

She wasn't.. Saying anything. That was usually bad. He flicked his ears and moved his paws against the sand. This was going too well, he had to gt it back, not every female was, er, stupid enough to fall or him.
"Well, Maia, got any plans for the rest of the day? " Yeah, take her out to dinner or something! Wait, she just had that. Bah, he'd think of something. But not yet, his brain was sort of off now, blown away by Maia's quietness.

The male seemed a little flustered and Maia smiled somewhat, knowing how it felt to be that way. She was sometimes flustered when it came to meeting strangers - especially as she'd not had much chance to do so when she was young. She couldn't imagine his reasons, though.
"I haven't go any plans, no. I was wondering though.." she took a deep breath, knowing she had to try or the pair might end up staring at each other saying nothing as she had once with the old male. Though at that time the quiet had been only on her side.
"I was wondering if maybe you'd show me how to catch fish?"
