Hello, I’m Kahlan Nightwing. Every month we will exploring a little bit about my favorite mystic creature, the unicorn.
According to the dictionary, a unicorn is literally translated as a one-horned animal. It, however, means more than that historically and modernly. In ancient times the unicorn was revered and feared, hunted and worshipped. Even today the thought that unicorns might exist fills people with hope and longing. The mystic nature of these creature predates even written history, going back to the first recorded evidence of such creatures in an old “cave drawing” in Lascaux, France. The “creature” actually has two horns protruding from its head, but it’s so two dimensional as to receive the moniker “the unicorn”. There is another such painting in Africa, but it is as yet unconfirmed.

Most of you reading this will probably think of me as a bit of a "scrooge" so I'm going to make one thing clear right now: I have no problems with the holiday of Christmas, if that's your religion, have at it. My issue is with 300ft tall trees coated in gaudy tinsel and lights you could land an airplane by.
If you think about it, the whole idea of Christmas is against commercialization. Jesus kicked money changers out of a temple in his hometown because he didn't want greed to infest his religion. Look what's happened now. Not only is greed a massive part of most major religions, but entirely secular groups are now profiting off of other people's religious beliefs. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a massive sale during the month of december. Then, of course, there's always that giant waste of money in Rockefeller Plaza they have every year. Do they even have trees that size? What kind of awful steroids do these trees need to be given before they can get that big?
Of course, this wouldn't be a major problem, if it weren't for people who see Christmas as a christian holiday and strictly enforce it. The truth is, Christmas is nothing more than a capitalist holiday now. If you would swing the same dead cat mentioned in the above paragraph, you would no doubt hit somebody telling jews, muslims, buddhists, and any other religion that Christmas is THEIR holiday. These people, coupled with the overall commercialism of the season, really make it hard to like Christmas.
Finally, to stop another wave of hate-mail about me not mentioning any other holidays: Look around your neighborhood. Do you see giant, tacky Hannukah displays? How about Kwanza? That's what I thought.
Sigil Manual

Sigil magick is a powerful form of chaos magick. The practitioner has to come up with the purpose of the magick rite, the symbol itself, and a ritual to send it off into the spiritual realm to be fulfilled. Here you will find out a simple step by step method to this style of magick. What I am going to teach is one of many ways to preform sigil magick. Before we start, a word of advice. Don't play around with this form of magick, it is very powerful and if used incorrectly can harm you or the people you love. Magick is not something to be played with in general. You have been warned.
Step 1: Statement of intent
The first step is to figure out what it is that you wish to come about. Lets start with an example:
It is my will to pass my Spanish test.
Normally the statement of intent is written like what you wish to obtain was already obtained, so use statements such as:
I have...
I am...
I willed...to exist
Step 2: Eliminating multiple letters
The next step is to eliminate repeating letters. I'll continue with the example I used above:
It is my will to pass my Spanish test.
Now look though your statement of intent and only keep one of each letter, as so:

see what I did? Once I saw the letter “I” in the statement of intent, I erased all other “I”'s out of the statement and so on.
Step 3: The process of Sigil making
Now its time to make the sigil itself. There are many ways to make the sigil but the easiest way is to superimpose the letter onto each other making a brand new symbol. When the sigil is created you shouldn't be able to recognize many of the letters. Heres an example sigil for my statement of intent.

Step 4: The mantra (Optional)
You can also create a mantra that can be used to help cast the sigil. Creating the mantra is very easy, all you have to do is rearrange the letters that were used for the sigil into”words”. My mantra can look like:

I will explain how to use the mantra in the next step.
Step 5: Putting it all together and casting
Ok, this is the final step to sigil making. I will write a few different ways to do this part of the rite.
Way 1: blast off
Visualize you sigil clearly in your head. Focus you energy into the sigil making it glow (if you created a mantra, chant it as you power up the sigil), When you think it has enough energy visualize the sigil shooting into the sky as if shot by a cannon. When the sigil is so high that it can't be seen anymore open your eyes. As with every way I will be showing you, you must forget about the sigil. Do something to keep your mind off of the sigil and the reason the sigil was casted.
Way 2: Fire
Write your sigil on a small piece of paper. Lit a candle and set the piece of paper on fire, as it incinerates visualize little multi colored lights floating into the air carrying out your intent (if you created a mantra, chant it the paper is set on fire). Dispose of the ashes as you would normal ashes and forget about the sigil.
Way 3: Wash away
Write the sigil on your hand with a pen or wash off marker. Focus your energy into the sigil and when you feel the time is right wash the sigil off your hand (if you created a mantra, chant it as you wash off the sigil). Forget about the sigil.
Way 4: Orgasm
If you believe that self sex/masturbation is wrong do not do this method. Close you eyes and visualize the sigil. As you masturbate see the sigil growing brighter and stronger (only chant the mantra if it doesn't distract you from your self pleasure). When you reach orgasm the sigil will be blasted off. Forget about the sigil.
Final Note:
Sigil magick is very strong as I said, so don't play around with this. Some people feel that once the sigil is casted that it is to be destroyed, others keep little sigil journals with every sigil they created and its meaning. Which ever one you choose to do is up to you. If you do decided to make a journal don't look at it for months at a time, only look back into the journal if you want to see if the sigil worked, but give plenty of time to do so before checking.
I hope this manual helped give you a better understanding to sigil magick and make sure you follow the Wiccan rede: Harm none, do what ye will.
Death’s Façade

Death has played an important role in civilization for centuries, his face constantly changing as the time past originally he was an angel like any other with slightly darker robes, an underling and servant of god. The original depiction of the angel of death carried a broad sword with him; the apocalyptic rider carried a scythe to reap souls as if they were wheat.
As a horseman of the Apocalypse:
As the lamb opens the seals the four horsemen ride out on horses colored white, red, black, and pale. Each horsemen has a specific meaning. Pestilence, War, Famine, and Death, the horseman of Death rides atop the pale horse, pale also translated as green or sickly. Death is the fourth horseman that comes when the lamb breaks the seal; with him he carries a scythe and kills using the effects of the other riders, war, pestilence, and Famine. Death’s horse’s color is described as pale; a more literal translation is “green” the horse represents decay, and sick.
As a god in his own realm:
Death has also been depicted as a god by many civilizations possibly the most well known are:
the Egyptian gods Anubis, and Osiris
the Norse god Odin the Wanderer
and the Greek god Hades
Hades king of the underworld in Greek mythology reigns over the underworld and assigns underlings to guard over the major rivers of hell that are Styx, Acheron, Cocytus, Lethe, and Phlegethon.
Odin the Wanderer in Norse (Viking) mythology was the lord of the dead, war, wisdom, and battle. He sends people who died from natural causes into a lower region of hell, but he sends those who died gloriously in battle to Valhalla, a large hall where they feast until Ragnarok where they will fight along side the gods.
Anubis and Osiris are both gods of the death. Osiris was the first to be labeled as the god of death because he is comparable to the Indian god Brahman god of creation, destruction, death, and rebirth. Anubis took on the role afterward as the god of the dead and god of embalming.
As an Angel:
Death originally took form as an angel. He was an Archangel by the name of Azrael meaning whom god helps Azrael has been called the wisest, or cleverest of the Archangels. The Angel of Death is said to be the one who went and collected the souls of the firstborns when God inflicted Egypt with the tenth and final plague. Sometimes the Angel of Death is said not to have any will power but is under direct influence of God. The Angel of Death goes to the dying man and takes his soul which escapes the body through the mouth.
Fallen from Grace:
Death has also been told be to Satan, once an Archangel with the holy name of Samael meaning The Venom of God when he fell from grace he took on the name of Satan (or Lucifer as a mistranslation) he is referred to as the accuser, seducer, and the destroyer.
Death:
Death was originally seen in the middle ages as a mummified corpse, later being transformed into the familiar skeleton in the robes. Becoming the Grim Reaper he originally was draped in a white robe and carried a scythe to reap the souls of the dead, later he was put wearing black robes and carrying his scythe. Sometimes Father Time is said to be Death, while other times he is said to be the Angel Azrael (the name Azrael is not mentioned in the bible or in the Qur’an). Another view of death is that he is a psychopomp which is a deity in the form of an animal that collects souls, the animal can be the ravens, crows, dogs, horses, owls, sparrows, and dolphins.
Death’s Final Destruction-
When Jesus was crucified it is said that he had a confrontation with Death, but Death could not hold him so Jesus was resurrected. In John’s visions on the Island of Patmos John sees Death ride on the pale horse as one of the riders of the apocalypse. At the ending of Revelations God makes Hell, Satan, and Death give up their dead so they can be judged once all were judged Death was cast into the lake of fire with Satan, and the beast the lake of fire being the second death where they will be tormented forevermore.
I believe that Death’s true face will always be a mystery. Whether he is a decaying corpse wrapped in robes reaping souls of the dead, or a high level angel sent from god even if he did fall from grace I think we will never truly know.

If you don’t think they’re going to approve, don’t tell them. Just follow your own religion, but in private. If you don’t feel comfortable lying, or not telling the truth, tell them, but along with it, mention you are allowed to choose your own religion, and that freedom of religion is a law. The Resurrection:
I've been trying for a little bit to create psyenergy and psyballs, but seem to lack the focus to create it via the more meditative ways. Sometimes I can feel warmth or a tingly sensation in my hands, but I think it's mostly imagination and my limbs falling asleep.

Concentration
Concentration is holding an image or an idea in your mind without interruption. Concentration is of prime importance during actual ritual when everything not directly related to what you are doing it that no extraneous noise, no thoughts of the day's happenings, not even the telephone is allowed to intrude into your mind. If they do intrude, they are immediatedly dismissed ro be dealt with at another time.
There are 2 excercises that will strengthen your power of concentration .
-Cut out a white dot about the size of a quarter and paste it against a dark backforund.
-Sit comfortablely and look at the white dot. Do not stare; blinking your eyes whenever you need to do so.
- After a few minutes, close your eyes and look for the white dot.
You will see it in front of you as if your eyes were still open. Keep your thoughts on that dot, and see how long you can maintain its image in your mind.
The second method may or may appear on the next issue so stay tune!
