A while back, one long train ride begat a conversation of hypothetics about the ultimate Radiohead tribute album.
I think now is a great time to bring it back up.
So,
What songs do you think should be on this magical Radiohead tribute album, and who do you think should have the honor of doing the cover(s)?
In our discussion we tended to favor Muse because the guy has an appropriate vocal range. I forget all the other bands and song selections we thought up, though, because I was really floored by how well Muse would do with a Radiohead cover.
Side discussion: Thoughts on the many existing Radiohead tributes already out, i.e. Radiodread, the Chris O'Riley piano stuff, Exit Music, Enigmatic (and various string tributes), and so on?

I think the Yeah Yeah Yeahs doing Paranoid Android would be pretty funny. Especially at the bit where Thom starts screaming.

Yo La Tengo worked their magic for Little Honda and made it 10x better. I want to see them do Dollars and Cents and work their magic on that song.

I'm not a fan of tribute albums, but here's some I'd like to see...
Regina Spektor - "Exit Music" Patrick Wolf - "Street Spirit" (played on ukelele heart ) Explosions In The Sky - "Paranoid Android" (instrumental) Stephen Malkmus - "Palo Alto" Porcupine Tree - "Bishop's Robes" Adrian Belew - "2+2=5"

Agreed on the Muse pick, though. They're epic and have that range, and their songs tend to err on the longer side also. It just seems so natural.

In fact, I saw them play just before Radiohead at Coachella that year. OMG. They have a new album slated for release in 2007, according to an NME post made in October of this year.

Harry Hood I don't trust music magazines. And the reunion tour has been over for a while now. I don't distrust reputable sources and NME's never failed me. I hate when bands say that they're in the studio because it's not 100% confirmation of an upcoming album, but no publication has broken news about the Pixies reunion being temporary. So, 'til the band officially announces that they're not going to be touring anymore or making any more music, I'll consider them together and look forward to any upcoming projects.

Pixies should do a cover of Bones 3nodding
I trust Pitchfork Media. And they said that a Pixies album would be arriving late 2007. I'm still not fully convinced if this is true, but if it is then that's great news.
But I'm convinced that if the Pixies do release anything, it will be really really inferior to their previous work

In any case they'd be touring to promote it and I'd pay a hefty sum to scream along to their live set.
