This was brought up in one of the other topics floating around the forums, and I suppose it is about time that we had a discussion topic.

We'll keep it broad. Here's a spoonfeed.

-What do you think of the English occupation of the north?
-What do you think of Ian Paisley?
-What do you think of Irish nationalism?
-Anything related

I do agree. I would like to see Ireland whole again, however, I think that any violent attempts at achieving that wouldn't be successful. It would need to be dealt with peacefully and democratically.

Paisley is an idiot, I can agree to that. He is a racist, a wanna-be war monger, money lusting S.O.B, and frankly, he scares the living hell out of me. My little cousin was over being watched by me and there was some news segment on him. When he spoke, he cried, and cried, and cried...! Deep gruff voice. Haha.

But seriously, he has made one too many decisions and comments that seriously anger me, in regards to both nation and religion. I'm Catholic. He pisses me off. I'm a republican, and I'm for the unity of a single island, and the freedom of it. He rreaalllyyy pisses me off.

I don't know why he hasn't been assasinated yet, to be frank.

As far as England is concerned, I'm really not happy with occupation in NI, but I don't hate the English people at all, as a whole. I try not to hate. smile But really, I do have a lot of English friends, and I can't say that anyone's government ever really accurately shows who they are themselves.

This is a heavy topic, but I don't want any English people in this guild to feel insulted or unwelcome or anything. So, English people! Feel free to jump in on the topic. mrgreen

We don't hear much in America about what's going on over there except for the occasional news about an attack, some fighting or when say Bill Clinton goes there and has both sides sign a treaty. I figure it's always best to hear the real story from natives. I hope that things can be resolved peacefully for everyone's sake.

personally i really think that the English should give up ownership like they have done in other countries because it is of no real use to them with all the violence that goes on right now. Also, i'd like to add that most schools (at least where i am) are now teaching that Ireland is a free country without English occupation and I'm pretty sure that is wrong...

The fact that we're not a whole country sort of bothers me. Reunite the north with the south, for one island whole again!

My mother was in the IRA in the seventies long before I was born...

My father was a part of the Theatre Troupe "Field day" that dealt often with the issue of English occupation in the North.

I personally think that's it's unfair that 26 countys get a free state while the other 6 are left under British rule. Sadly though, because it has remained that way for so long we can only hope for a shared power rule over the six counties by the two sides, of course there are several disidant republicans who would see it otherwise, but we can understand everyone's position if we think about it...

of course the D.U.P.s opinion is to beat the crap outta tadhgs so that's a no-no.

Deirdre, I completely agree with you.

The English don't bother me, but they need to have fun on their own little island. Leave ours alone, thank you. I mean, look at Scotland! Geeze, I like the Scottish. I have a Scottish friend, and I love Scotland, though it's a little bit dirty... Anyway, please leave us alone. THANKS.

Don't even mention his name! He might have Gaian spies! ninja

Anyway, yeah.
