A golden brown Reya stood at the base of the great Casa Tiner. His jealous gaze looked at its powerful peaks and deadly drop offs, his mind reeling with the possibilites. Of course, he couldn't go up there. Not yet, at least. Oh, how he longed to. The beauty and the strength that oozed from the very core of the rock was enough to make his knees weak, something that pretty much no other force in nature could do. He had a single minded goal to climb that amazing peak some day, when his training was done, when he was ready. Today was not that day, most unfortunatley, though he did rather enjoy to spend his free time at its base, admiring it for all it was.

His coat was quite the contrast to the grey and white, as brown very rarely mixes with such colors as these. He was out to proove that a bay could make it in the harsh enviroment of Casa Tiner, and was out to proove to the entire Reya community that he was the one to do it. Just a bit more training, just a little more, and he could, he knew. His twisted, oddly Reyan horn would help him grip the rocks as the slid. Yes, he had it all planned. He'd do it alone, as he stood there solitary now. He needed no one and planned to speak to no one. Solitude. Independance. Power. Courage. Beauty. The defining words of the stallion's very soul, and all of them were echoed by the enormous mountains infront of him.

Storm wove her way in and out of trees, her eyes straining to see past the thick mist that gathered here. It came in swarms, thick even on the very edge of the forest. She knew better than to venture farther in, it would mean her death, but she felt safe enough as long as she could make out the grass. The forest beneath the Casa Tiner was the most horrifying area of the Nequus lands, at least she believed so. The thought of creature's great and small getting lost in the fog made her laugh, the sweet sound bounding off trees and travelling up onto the mountain.

The echoes that the foliage created was to be feared, too. Even one who felt their way around and kept their headings straight could be confused by the sound of their own voice, or that of another. Nothing was ever what it seemed in the dark woods. One lesson she had learned above all others was never trust water. The trees seemed to whisper secrets of liquids trickling from gorgeous waterfalls, but none of it was true. It was only the wind playing with the souls of wanderers.

Even with the thick howls of the living flora, there was still a whisper that rose above it. She knew it well, now, it was the voice of a Nequus, but a thinking voice. This time of year, he called it Spring, was bright and cheery, with plenty of fresh grass. It made her feel warm inside, and ready for play. Her foul mood was somwhat dampered by this playful delegation. Right now she wanted to play tease the youth.

Shaking her head free of the mist, she followed the strengthening whispers, undistorted by the trees. No matter their power, the forest could never control the mind, only trick it. It wasn't long before the white viel broke and there, gazing longingly to the hills was a dark golden Nequus, his eyes flashing with the promise of adventure.

Storm's laughter sang out once again as she made her way up the hill towards him. "You have to get through the forest first."

The stallion quiverred with the mere anticipation of what was to come in his life. This quest he had set before himself was most obviousley the foremost goal he had on his list, even besting the want of a mate and to spread his lines. After his great battle with the rock and ice, he would, after all, be more worthy to have foals. The whole idea of family had more honor when the sire was great, after all. His eyes flashed with excitement, his feet stamping the ground. His whole body ached to run off the emotions that surged through his blood stream, his mind cried out for an escape. Perhaps he would run away and soar above the ledges and slides of Casa Tiner, or perhaps he would just gallop his way about the valley below it's great shadow.

The cruel laguther of the oncoming mare did little to his mood. His ego was far too large for such a remark to phase him. In fact, there was little the infamous creature could do to thwart the young stallion's excitement. He felt above her for more reasons than just his incredibley large amount of confidence. She was a half-Reya, as opposed to his own rich, pure lines. "Which is why I train." August didn't even care to throw a glance in the direction of the mare, for he knew what she looked like, as did most Nequus. Her popularity, however, was not like that of a high school cheerleader's. No, hers was for her sickly cruel nature and mood which often had others shivering beside themselves. His tremors, however, were due to the excitement at the sight of such power as the mountain before the pair had, as opposed to fear of verbal abuse.

Storm shook her head and slipped up the hillside, looping behind the male and coming to stand beside him. She, too, titled her gaze towards the ominous mountains looming above. They were, indeed beautiful. "Hah!" she bashed down his statement. "No amount of training could possibly get you through that." Her eyes flicked to the mist that seemed to weave its way through the trees, drawing her towards it. It dared her to venture in and try to conquer it.

"No. Only one can get you through that." She was of course, talking about Velg'larn. The Nequus seemed to have a sense of where he was going, since he had lived in the dark for so long he must have relied only on the placement of his body an nothing more. A defense against the dark woods that few had. It was a skill that had to be forced upon one, could not be learned. She doubted even Velg'larn could stay in the forest for long without losing himself. He may not be able to reach the Casa Tiner mountains at all, but he was surely the most fit out of all of them to try.

"And after?" she questioned him, quirking a brow. "What does this young creature expect to gain? Loyalists, respect, fame?" She said the last word with a thick acid, stamping her foot lightly. She smirked and looped around, her golden coat flashing in the sun. Before the change her feathered wings would have been the envy of everyone, but now the thick leather stretching between bone was less desirable and more of a fearful nuisance. Still, her coat was unmatched in all the Nequus lands, and she was sure there were plently wishing to take her as a mate. But she was a halfbreed, and for the most part she could seduce without ever pulling forth commitment. It was a grand thing.

August chose to ignore absolutely everything the mare said, and drew his gaze away from the power that he would some day be able to capture. His eyes glanced over the changed being beside him, and a smirk quickly played his features. "Fame is for those who are so sad in life that they need a pick me up." His words were spat in Storm's direction, though he made no eye contact. She was not worthy of such a thing. "Only an impure creature such as yourself, Storm, craves attention and fame." His intuitive nature knew well that the golden creature thrived on the envious looks at her coat and the fear she struck in weaker Nequus's hearts. It was she who sought fame, not he. All this pitiful half-Reya could ever seek in life was a fake love and adoration. From his observations, he had come to realize that she thrived on the attention she was given, and he was not going to just add to her life force. Much rather, he preferred to tear it all down.

He was a proudley beast, a full blooded Reya. The only thing he should ever quest for was to strengthen his already honorable line, and to strengthen his courage and brute strength. "You are truely a leech." Suddenly, a flash of venom entered his system, and he felt as if the insults must go on. It was not his nature to toss about names like a colt, but she had started it, hadn't she? "You live off of the Nequus around you, attempting oh so poorly to break them with your sad little games. Most unfortunatley, Storm, you are nothing but a mutt. A mixed breed. A mistake." The last word he practically spat at her, putting quite a bit of emphasis onto the fact that she was not what he was, and that she could never reach the potential in the Reyan community that he would.

Wait for it. Wait. That's right. Talk your talk about craving and fame. Storm didn't wish for any of these things. She simply had a nature, and if others cringed before her, that was their own problem. There were a few that knew her more gentler side. One none ever saw. It was a noble aspect.

Oh he fell right in! The young colt was so busy trying to weave her with words, he missed one vital thing, she wasn't a crossbreed at all. A sharp laughter broke the air this time, the nearby Shrila evacuated the trees. It was a disturbing sound for any. "Unfortunately? You make it sound as though it were a regret." Youth should watch their words.

"But tell me, how many crossbreed Jala have you seen?" There was a chuckle. Let him put the pieces together, if he was smart enough to do so. A mistake, perhaps, but never a crossbreed. "No, my parents are both of the Jala breed. Dead now, but still the purest of blood. It is I who broke the code, not them. Or perhaps it was the gods?"

She decided now to get under his skull, perhaps undermine his confidence. With a flick of her tail she closed her eyes and sent those images she new so clearly. Of Brakrin and Attia in their torture games, harming the fillies, wishing for death and destruction on all. Bae, Reya, all alike to them. She gave him her side, breaking in front of the two, keeping them from harming the weaker youth. Giving Attia a word of her mouth. Most of all she sent emotions of pure hatred into his flesh.

"Those," she growled, opening her eyes. "Are the legends they don't tell you."

The stallion was slightly surprised that she was a full out Jala. Her features looked of Reyan and Jalan blood alike. He came over the obstacle, however, quickley recovering with that still present smirk. "The you are even sadder than I would've though previously. You look nothing like your kin." He waited a moment before continuing, letting the tension grow between the pair. "You're nothing but a freak mare who doesn't fit in."

But then, there was a change. His eyes grew misty as he viewed images that he had never seen before. They were like memories, but not his own. This witchery that Storm could yeild... it was truely unnatural. Yet incredible. He blinked twice, trying to make the images disappear from view, but could not. The sickening scenes were sending a feel of unease into his stomach, and he stomped his foot as a reflex to his discomfort. The bae family that was flitting before his eyes was as well known as Storm herself. The group disgusted August with their ways, and he hoped to never have a run in with them. He wouldn't be able to control himself if he did...

And then came the images of Storm saving the day, it so seemed. Thought th stallion was not one to give praise to any creature for playing the hero part, he had to admit that perhaps this mare was not as bad as she seemed. His ego, however, did not allow him to remain silent. "Then why don't you make them tell others? Why don't you..." He looked away for a second, trying to come up with the right words. "Why don't you act a bit kinder, even when no one is in trouble?"

It was a good question and one she had pondered many times over. Back in the days when she was younger, her anger came out of fear for herself, afraid of betrayal, heartbreak and any type of social life. Now she found more could be trusted for she could see into their minds, but they could still hide things from her. It was the unkown she worried about.

"I'm guarding." It would seem that was all she would say, but there was more. Such a touchy subject had to be worded carefully. "You have not yet met the ways of the world. There are few to be trusted, and you must strike fear into their hearts before they can use it against you. Even the innocent have cold ways. With malice, only those full deserving of the punishment will seek you out, others will fall in fear, but it is better for them, for they must learn the world is not all good. And those that persist? Well, they are fully capable of winning my heart away." She wondered if the stallion before her truly know what she spoke of. How she felt wasn't an act, it was exactly how she was, snaking her way about and holding a violent nature, but it was because of all the darkness in the world. The second she let her guard down she was a dead Nequus. Better to let the kind at heart give her space, than to make the wicked full of pride and weaken her advantage.

"And you," she said calmly. "Are still locked in a devil's match of pure blood." She frowned upon the Reya and Ichsa and their feuds. Such prejudice, it wasn't worthy. Halfbreeds, pure breeds, it mattered not to her. Only the brain and heart on the inside.

The stallion stood in silence for a few moments, allowing Storm time to her thoughts. It was true that there was evil in the world, but one couldn't go about being brash about life just because of the wicked. In that sense, they were winning. They were triumphing above the pure and good in the world if those who saught the light rather than the dark had to hide such feelings with a viel. "If you do that with everyone, you might just chase away those who you could love." He chose not to tell her that he thought of her as giving into those who were malicious, though he knew she could just search his brain if she really felt like it.

At the mention of purebred fueds, however, he grew slightly stiff. He could not see what was wrong in having pride for his pure lines, in holding the honor of passing on his family's blood. He saw nothing wrong in it, truely, for it was the way things always had been. The only reason he had actually brought up anything of the matter was in defence to Storm's first cruel insults with which the conversation had started. If he were to come to face with a mutt of a Nequus, he would more than likely ignore the fact and get on with his life. After all, none of that would matter in the long run, would it? When he was ready and went to that great mountain, he would not deal with mixed and pure alike, and would only have the snow and ice before him. "The pride in being a full fledged Reya is nothing I feel ashamed of. It is my honor to pass on such a line to my foals, although..." His voice lowered some, as if trying to hide the words from his long gone sire. "I do admit, the mares of my species are none too appealing. They're overly dominanty and rebelous nature is nothing I want to tie myself to for the rest of my life. I will more than likely end up with some sweet little Jala mare in the end." He smiled warmly at the thought, for he could picture his future family perfectly. And the Jala who would stand beside him in life, as well. It was not uncommon for those of his breed to go along with the feathered Nequus as a mate, and it was almost certain that was August's future.

She shrugged. She was in no way giving in. No one could be happy and kind all the time, then everyone would lose. There was always competition and as long as she one, she couldn't care what the world thought of her. "I can't love them if I don't know them," she responded simply.

His answers were naive, that of a youth who had not yet experienced the whole world. Still self-centered and living in a dream world. Perhaps someday he would wake up, today was not that day. "Suit yourself small one," she said, and turned heel. She was done with him. For now, he did not understand.

August raised a brow in curiosity, but quickley let it go. He thought of her as a single-minded being, who would never accept the opinion of another. And she was confusing, to add to the mess. He had said that he was proud to be pure, as his father and his father before him, but he would not let that hinder him from growing attatched to a mare. Her reaction was that of annoyance, in his mind, and this reasoning wouldn't work out in August's brain. Ah well, little did it matter. Perhaps they would cross paths once again and he could redeem himself in her eye. Though he truely did not need her blessing in any part of his life, of course.

With a flick of his tail, he turned back towards the mountain to take in it's surging power and awesome beauty. With a smirk, he took off running, galloping over the hilly valley before the mountain, back towards the north western parts of the fruit tree forest, back to his tree and to his obstacle course.
