Do you mind us advertising for the guild? Is there any specific ways you don't want us to?

You can advertise the guild, however, you are not allowed to advertise in other guilds unless that guilds captain allows it. Advertising in the forums, last time I checked, was not allowed, even in the RP forums like barton town. It might be fine in the chatterbox, though I personally wouldn't reccommend that.

About rank: We will award temporay renown when you have earned it, in the appropriate catagories. Once you have 10 points of temp. renown in one catagory, you will gain one point of permanat renown in that catagory. You will start with permanat renown determined by your auspice and rank, you will find details about this in the thread I linked to above.

About backgrounds: The totem background really only comes into play for Garou. You do not get to choose your own personal totem. Read the information about the totem background in the above thread. Resources is basicly how much money you have.

Abour rites of passage: There is already another person, BFU, who is pre-first change in this guild. If your charecter needs to undergo a rite of passage, you will probably do it along with BFU, as you would be the only two who have not done this. You will undergo a rite of passage as soon as is necessary. If you send me a PM we can work out details on how and when you want to do your rite of passage. However, you don't HAVE to do a rite of passage, you can have your charecter start out as a full member of Garou society like most of the guild has chosen to do.

About how often people post: The guild is kinda slow right now, but most people are able to post once a day. Things should start going faster once we have more people and have formed an actual pack and such.

You can be a kinfolk if you want, obviously some parts of the profile, such as Tribe, Auspice, etc. would not apply to you, so you should just ignore those.

You may use the Gifts out of the books. We wanted to get the guild up and running asap so we only included some of the level one gifts (I will try to get the rest up before school starts). As for you first question all you have to do is post your profile then you are set to post in the RP. Someone on crew will PM you if there is a problem with your profile.

Well, since we never went about making people create charecter sheets and such, there is no way to determine how many freebie points people have and such to spend on merits and flaws. Also, a lot of the merits and flaws would be just pointless in this format. (For example, the metamorph merit, which lets you change forms without a dice roll, would be useless here, as we don't require dice rolls anyhow.) If you want to take a merit or flaw, I would say just work it into your profile somehow, and don't worry about the real rules behind it.
