Director? Country? Rating? It's been announced!

A recent post on the imdb message boards has led to this article on rottentomatoes.com, featuring an interview with producer Lauren Shuler Donner: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/news/comments/?entryid=381697

Read on for the biggest update on the movie to date:

Firsty and foremostly, a director has been announced! - Paul Weitz (American Pie & About a Boy). Also, she has announced that universal plans to make four movies, one for each triquel of books.

“Brian Helgeland wrote the script and we brought in Paul Weitz to direct it. Paul’s doing his rewrite and we used the first three books. There’ll be four movies. Each movie is a combination of three books.”

What is more, she has announced that the story in the film will be set in America:

The films will also transplant the story from England to America. “It works just as well.”

Finally, she commented on the rating of the movie, which she plans to be PG-13.

With vampires and wars, this hardly sounds like Harry Potter family fare. “It is more intense than Potter. It’ll still be PG-13 but "X-Men" was PG-13 and we went pretty far, so it’ll go that far.”

Discuss:

- What do you think of the location?
- What do you think of the rating?
- What do you think of CDF being made into four movies?

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's finally one step closer to being filmed and I can't wait! I think the age rating is alright but if it will be violent at some stages like it is in the book then I think it will need to be increased.

I can't wait either. But I am a bit worried about how the movie will turn out. It should not be made in America. It should've been made in either the UK, Ireland or New Zealand. As for the actors, I really hope they don't pick out American actors for the lead roles (Darren, Steve, Mr. Crepsley, ect).

When it comes to the rating and how many movies it will be, that's fine with me. I think the only thing I haven't liked so far is the loaction.

I can't wait till they will reveal who the actors will be. I still say Alan Rickman for Larten!

I'm a little worried about the three-in-one thing they plan to do. It's going to distort the story so much. Like what happened with the Series of Unfortunate Events movie. They did the first three books and it didn't turn out well. Actually, very few people even remember there is a movie. Hopefully they'll do a good job with this one. I'll be really disappointed if it turns out like the Series of Unfortunate Events.

- What do you think of the location?
Ok America is not the best choice they should of used Ireland. 3nodding
- What do you think of the rating?
The rating PG-13 would be Ok I guess I don't remember how much gore there is in CDF. Actually a 15 would be more sutiable you have to remember the suicidal jump out the window, ouch thats gotta hurt and all that stuff. To be honest I don't crae what age as long as its within my age biggrin Wow I do sound confused

I think the age is alright. Personallyi think it should be higher because of the whole suicide thing but other than that it should be fine. Its what the people think not me.
I also worry about them messing up the books. I mean they were awsome books and they deserve a good movie.
I just cant wait to see it!!

I hope it doesn't stray to far from the books like the Harry Potter series did..It would be extreamly sad if that happened...And if new fan girls apear out of no where saying they're the #1 fans and havn't read the books there will be more poeple added to my kill if and when it becomes legal.....that list is really big already, soon I'll have to write it down....ya sweatdrop .....NO ONE WILL DISHONER THE NAME DARREN SHAN!!!..... mrgreen I CAN"T WAIT FOR HE MOVIE YAY!!!!
It's cool that they're filming it close to were I live, meaning hopfully sooner realise times..MUHAHAHAHA, but it'll loose much of it's authenticness, wich sucks.......The raiting probably be a little higher, but that depends on how close to the book they stay , well it's not to bad the first three books but as soon as it gets further ahead the story will be creaping over the border a little, that's what I think.....but the first day it comes out I'm going to see it if the theatre in my town gets it, But i'm buyin gthe DVD and watching it until I can quote the entire movie.
