The stallion took an uncertain step forward and lowered his head cautiously to the ground. His muzzle met earth sooner than he had expected and the Reya gave a snort of surprise. He scowled and raised his head. Not only had he startled himself but there wasn’t even any grass down there to compensate him for his trouble.
He would have stopped feeding at dusk but he hadn't managed to find much to eat during the hours of light so he was still out in the open at night in the cold. Blind. The stallion shivered and took another step forward.
A moment later he froze, ears swivelling.
Hoofbeats, he'd just heard hoofbeats; he was sure of it.
Who could it be?
The albino's muscles tensed and he waited for the whoever it was to arrive.
He hoped they weren't hostile.

Glamrock was out in the open stomping her hoofs and flappingher wings for she was going crazy out in the cold. Glamrock thought she wasnt going to make it threw the winter. She is doing anything for a little bit of warmth.

Whoever it was they were making a horrible racket. The stallion snorted to himself and set out cautiously towards the noise. He could feel his breath clouding in the air before him and feel the crunch of frost underhoof. It was too cold to even snow.
Morthan swished his tails restlessly as slow deliberate steps carried him closer to the noise. Each hoof was slowly lifted, reached forward and place down. No weight was transferred to it until the albino was certain of his footing. The winter was always worst; cold, dark and icy. This meant that he was uncomfortable, seemingly constantly blind and that whilst he couldn't see he always needed to be ready for a patch of ice.
A physically and mentally exhausting season.
He was almost upon the stomping person now, he was sure. Deciding that he was close enough, the wraith-like Reya halted. "Will you stop making that blasted racket?" he asked coldly of the unseen Nequus.

Morthan started at the sudden gust of snow against his flank. Apparently he had come further than he'd thought, he'd been sheltered from this snowstorm before now by the trees of his home.
The white Nequus strained to hear a reply over the howling wind but none came.
The stallion was instantly on edge. Why weren't they replying? Were they trying to sneak up on him? The blue-eyed Reya concentrated harder. Hooves... Walking towards me? he wondered internally. Certainly he thought he could hear the rhythm of a Nequus' walk but it was possible that it was just a trick of the wind.
Possible trick or no, the approaching noise was still a possible threat.
Morthan tossed his head, displaying his savage horn to his unspeaking companion. "I can hear you, you know," he snapped. "No point trying to creep up on me. Who are you and what are you doing in my territory?"
Unless he had walked much further than he thought he had and was now far from his forest home. It seemed unlikely but he'd been wrong before, been forced to walk back quite some distance under harsh morning light. Not for the first time, the albino silently cursed his defective eyes.
Where was the damned Nequus?

"your territory" Glamrock replied "last time i checked this was a free nequus rome zone" Stomping again her hooves like crazy to get the weird looking nequus angry for she thought he had a short temper and she wanted to make him mad.

Morthan snorted and flicked his ears in an equine shrug, inciting a fight was not a good idea. "I've never really put a border to my territory so I suppose it might be," he muttered gruffly after some consideration.
The pale Nequus was glad of all the noise that the other - a mare he thought and large by the sound of her pounding hooves - was making, he had a fair idea of where to look. It would be better if she didn't realise his blindness.
"Still," he went on. "Even if it is an unclaimed area I don't see any need for all the thumping you were making, silly child. If this bloody storm hasn't woken everyone up for miles around your big feet will have."
Maybe she had come out here looking for a fight. If she had, he was in trouble. The ground was uneven and slippery in patches underhoof. His horn couldn't make up for lack of sight, especially with his hearing impaired by the howling winds.
"I ask again," he said, tossing his head to show off his weapon once more in the hopes that the sight of it would discourage her from attacking, "who are you, mare and what do you want?"

Morthan blinked. He opened his mouth to speak and shut it again. He blinked again.
She talks about warmth like it’s a person or something. …Maybe she's being deliberately annoying. Or just sarcastic. Or she’s stupid. Or bored. Wish I could see her face, that’d make my life so much easier but no because I'm bloody Morthan bloody Wight and I can’t see for apples at the best of times at a distance of more than six hands or so. Arse.
"What," the Reya asked with strained patients, "do you want me to do to help you get warm? Play tag? Call out exercise moves? Left hoof in left hoof out style of thing? Oh, and for the third time of asking what in all lands is your name?"

"Aaarg!" Morthan cried, stomping at the frozen ground in frustration. "Has the weather frozen your brain? For the last and bloody final time: what is your name? Tell me that, filly, and maybe I'll try to help you defrost a little! Understand? Me Morthan; who you?"
What in the name of all powers did I do to deserve this? I'm sure I haven't been that bad a person of late, I haven’t been around enough people to be especially evil. Maybe I trod on an important ant. Maybe I murder her in the future and this is pre-emptive punishment, which would be stupid because if she weren't so frustrating I wouldn't even consider spitting her. Grr.

The stallion paused, somewhat confused by the mare's stiff manner. Ah. He'd shouted. Bugger. "Glamrock. Interesting name," he offered, setting off cautiously after the retreating hoofbeats. "My name is Morthan... Look, there's a pine forest not far from here, that's my territory. It's quite warm there; out of the wind and the snow... You can shelter there the night if you like though you will have to put up with me."
Even as he finished speaking, the pale Nequus stumbled over a fallen branch and folded up painfully and gracelessly on the snowy ground. "Ow," the albino muttered, scrambling back to his hooves as quickly as he could. His knees felt skinned.
The blue-eyed Nequus lowered his muzzle to one of them and touched it lightly to the sore skin. Yes, wet with blood but not very much thankfully. The graze would be painful as such injuries always were but it ought to heal fast.
Oh.
Oh dear.
The mare.
"Haha, clumsy me," he muttered, swishing his tail uncomfortably. "So,” he went on, changing the subject as fast as he could, “do you want to come to my forest or have I pissed you off too much for you to accept the offer?" Please let her make nothing of that fall, please don't let her ask questions...

Morthan nodded, flexing first one foreleg then the other cautiously. "Yes, just grazed the skin, haven't damaged the joints or anything," he said with an attempt at a smile, his knees really did sting.
"Well, come on then Glamrock," the albino said as he turned about so that the wind blew against his hindquarters instead of into his face. Hopefully this would reverse his direction and lead him back to the trees. If it doesn't I'm going to look damn stupid in a minute, Morthan thought with an internal sigh.
"It's not too far," he told the mare who he assumed was following in his hesitant hoofsteps. He couldn't afford to walk as slowly as he would have liked or she'd suspect something, further falls were entirely possible much to his disgust.
"It might be quite hard to spot in all this snow though," he went on in a moment of inspiration. "If you spot a whole load of pine tree give me a yell and tell me what direction they’re in, eh?"
