"The snow's coming down
I'm watching it fall
Watching the people around
Baby, please come home."

"A private RP thread? In a guild?"

I know, right? But Iia, Brittney, and I have had this idea planned out for nearly a month now. We've already got characters and pairings picked out and everything. If you want to be in a Christmas role-play, then either make your own thread or join somebody else's.

"The church bells in town
They're ringing a song
What a happy sound
Baby, please come home."

Plot

It's December 20th; only a few days before Christmas arrives. The holiday cheer has found its way into many of the villagers' hearts, except for a select few who are reminiscing about the past -- the remaining members of the original Team Seven. The people closest to them hate to see them so depressed, so they remind them about the party on Christmas Eve.

"It'll be fun! You won't regret going, trust us."

They reluctantly agree to go. After all, what was the worst that could happen? And besides.. it was Christmas, a time where spending time with those closest to you was important. They would all be there.. except for one.

The one suffering the most? The only female member of the squad; the one who had been in 'love' with the avenger.

"All I want for Christmas.."

Do the best things in the world happen on Christmas? Can dreams really come true? And more importantly.. do miracles exist?

"..is for you to come home."

"They're singing deck the halls
But it's not like Christmas at all
I remember when you were here
And all the fun we had last year."

Naruto's eyelids fluttered shut as he tried desperately to rid his thoughts of a certain raven-haired avenger. There was no use wallowing in self-pity, now was there? Just because you broke your promise to someone extremely close to you.. and failed to rescue your best friend from evil's clutches.. but there was always next time, right?

He sighed, and opened his eyes to continue staring out the kitchen window. This was so out of character for him.. usually at this time of day he would be out eating ramen, training, walking with Hinata, visiting Sakura, or eating ramen. But he actually hadn't done any of those things all day. He had been moping.. nearly all day.

Sometime around lunch he had attempted to eat a nice warm bowl of ramen, but the village was too full of.. Christmas cheer. There were lights strung up everywhere he looked, and everyone kept going on and on about their holiday plans.. he didn't care. He used to love Christmas, but that was before he spent one with Team 7.. that had been the best Christmas he had ever had.

A small smile found its way to his face as he recalled how Sakura had tried to get Sasuke under the mistletoe, how he had 'accidentally' thrown Kakashi's Icha Icha Paradise book into the fire.. It was the first Christmas he had ever spent with people. It was a precious memory.. and he just couldn't enjoy Christmas like he used to, not after Sasuke left. He laughed and smiled and went on being the knucklehead people thought of him as, but it was a simple act.

The only people he was himself around were Sakura, Kakashi, Hinata, and Sai. He tried his best to stay strong in front of Sakura, because he could only imagine how hurt she was, but sometimes he couldn't help but let a little bit of his sadness seep through.

He folded his arms on the table he was currently sitting at and leaned his head down on top of them. His bright blue eyes focused themselves on the neatly folded item placed in front of him. He let his gaze wander over the scratch that he himself had put there. "Sasuke.."

'Christmas is usually celebrated as a family, or group, as a whole. Members of a family or closely bonded people will gather at a house on Christmas Day. To celebrate, members exchange gifts to the others.

A popular tradition during Christmas time is the character of Saint Nicholas, or Santa Claus. It is an act for children. Santa is a large and heavy man, with a long white beared, and a suit of red and white. The story is that Santa lives in the North Pole, where he and his group of Christmas Elves spend all year in a toy workshop making toys for the children who have been well behaved throughout the year. On Christmas Eve night, Santa rides across the world be air in his magical sleigh, powered by magical flying reindeer. On that one night, Santa visits every house in the world, leaving presents for the children who have been good, and lumps of coal to those who have been naughty.

It is also a popular tradition for kids to leave a plate of cookies and a glass of milk out for Santa on Christmas Eve night. During the night, Santa will eat the cookies and drink the mi-
'

Sai closed the book, and stared at the picture on the cover of the book. Christmas. A picture of 'Santa Claus' was merrily waving from the cover.

'So that's what that was...It was getting kind of creepy...all of those men in red suits and beards...'

So it wasn't some freaky clone thing by some weird ninja. Okay. Good.

All across the table of the library wherer he was seated was scattered with many different books on the holday of Christmas. Celebrating Christmas. Christmas Carols. Christmas Tales. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Sai did NOT understand that story at all.). The Christmas Story. Reindeer. Decorating for Christmas.

After deciding that he had read enough, he pushed himself out of his chair, and began organizing the books he had taken off of the shelves. He now had a vague idea of what Christmas itself was. In all honestly, he thought it was cute. Yes, cute. However, it was ridiculous. If people wanted to give others gift, why did they need to do it on a certain day? What was the point in covering your entire house (in Konoha's case, the entire village) in colorful lights. That was absurd...no doubt enemies could sight your living quarters with that...

And flying reindeer? Maybe his ninja art techniques...but to lie to children like that?

Horrible.

Oh well, it was what it was, and people sure seemed to be in good moods during this holiday season. He put on a smile. He would need to be in a good mood, too, or he would be...uh...now WHAT was his name again?

...Grinch? No....Santa....No....Scrooge? Ah.

Yes. Scrooge.

Sai didn't want to be this so called 'Scrooge'. For one, he wouldn't fit in (something he found quite difficult already). Two, it'd upset Ino. Three...

Well, he didn't like the idea of three time-ghosts taking him back to his past...that was...strange.

Placing the books on a nearby cart, Sai tightened his scarf, and buttoned his dark jacket. It was cold outside, that was for sure.

Stepping outside, he looked around at all the Christmas decor. Maybe he should ask Ino about helping him decorate his home...but no lights. That was stupid.

He started down the street, towards the Yamanaka Flower Shop...now that he thought about it, he might run into Naruto or Sakura...he hadn't seen them around today, which was strange, especially for the blonde, since he saw Naruto out and about almost everyday.

Indeed, it was Sai's first year celebrating Christmas.

Seriously. What the hell was everyone so worked up about Christmas for? All these goofy lights strung up on houses, decorations, Christmas Tress.. and even songs!

Sakura grumbled from her hiding place between the couch and the end table.

Oh.. Did I forget to mention Christmas Carolers?!?

Shifting in the small space, she sighed. She had been brooding all day, seeing as everyone else had busy lives to attend to. Well.. she did too, at the hospital, but she had called in sick. [Tsunade was extremely furious about that]

All she wanted to do was be lazy and think back to the good times. But then the god-damned carolers had come by her house, [For what reason, she had no clue] and have been singing those damn songs for over a half hour now.

Then they started knocking on her door - asking if she wanted to join their little group, but Sakura acted as if she wasn't home and dove in between her couch and table.

Even after a half hour they still haven't left yet.

And it was uncomfertable, sitting in the same spot, listening to damn carolers make her day even worse. She already considered going out and slamming her fist in the ground and laugh as they all run away for their lives.

... What the hell has happened to her?

Sakura sighed and leaned her head against the wall. She wasn't in the mood to be all joyful and happy like everyone else. Naruto had come back unsucessful in bringing Sasuke home. But he was still alive. That's all that really mattered to her at the moment.

But.. she still wished Sasuke was back here. They could be a whole team seven again. Even though Sai would still be there with all of his, "Ugly" remarks. It didn't matter.

She just wanted him home.

Naruto's mood did not improve when he heard a certain chorus outside his apartment.

'On the first day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree.'

His eyes narrowed. He didn't even know what a partridge was, and he doubted the people singing that accursed song did either. So with a solemn expression he rose from the table and headed toward the door.

'On the second day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.'

The teenager's eyes remained narrowed as he pulled on his brown jacket, and wrapped his white scarf around his neck. He couldn't stay inside any longer. He had to get outside and.. do something. Whether it be eating ramen with signs of Christmas everywhere he looked, sitting in silence with Sakura, or spending time with Hinata, he didn't really care. The atmosphere of his apartment had just become.. too depressing.

'On the third day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.'

What kind of gifts were those, anyway? The guy who wrote that song must have loved birds. Or maybe it was a girl..

Naruto opened his door and stepped outside, blocking out the sounds of the carolers as he walked past them and headed in the direction of the Ichiraku Ramen Bar. He was sure a hot bowl of ramen would do him some good..

Hinata sat quietly in the ramen stand, slowly eating her shrimp ramen, which was her dinner. Her light-purple mittens were stuffed in the pocket of her purple and white jacket, and her white scarf was loosely wrapped around her neck. Her long hair was tucked behind her ears, as to not get into her face while she was eating. She had just finished Christmas shopping for her teammates, family, and friends, and her shopping bags rested on the side of the stool she sat on.

Neji had invited her to eat dinner with him and his team at this other restaurant, but she had politely refused, knowing that she needed to finish getting gifts for everyone. Her shopping had taken less time than she expected, however, so instead of going home and fixing something herself, she decided to stop by the small ramen restaurant. Not that it was a bother to her...even since Naruto had been taking her out to eat there, she had gotten somewhat of an addiction to the original ramen recipes only found at Ichiraku's. Now, she had become a regular customer, eating there whenever she had free time and an empty stomach.

After swallowing a large shrimp from her bowl, she relaxed a bit, feeling the warmth from the bowl of hot noodles and the heater from the stand reaching her skin. It was nice, considering how cold it had gotten. Her father had said they were reaching record temperatures; the FIRE Country usually never got so cold. She enjoyed the change, actually. She was always fond of cool weather. Nevertheless, the warmth was welcoming.

She sat there for a while longer before taking another bite. She always took her time eating, and to be perfectly honest, she was loving the Christmasy atmosphere around her.

It was her favorite time of the year.

Letting out a breath of relief, Sakura slowly made her way out of the cramped space in the corner of her living room. She still had yet to find out how she didn't snap and throw a shoe or something at them..

After stretching and cracking her neck she grabbed her scarf and jacket, and put on her black boots over her jeans. [Altogether she was wearing a white jacket with a black scarf, jeans and black boots with the pant legs tucked in.]

Closing the door behind her, she made her way down the street. She couldn't stay inside all day, moping around. Someone would end up coming over sooner or later..

She shivered. Surprisingly, it was pretty cold out. [It was pretty hard lately to get her outside.] Besides.. maybe being out around would get her mind off things.

"Ino~ Customer!"

The said girl, Ino, grumbled from the back room. "Okay!" She yelled back before heading out front to the cashier.

Her family had become quite well-known in Kohana for their flower shop. Even as a young girl she had learned alot about them, even the special meaning behind each one. Although it was a good place to relax, but her real place was being a ninja and going on missions.

.. Although it was good to help her parents on the holiday season.

Speaking of 'The holiday season' the Yamanaka flower shop had been decorated from front to back with lights and decorations. They even got a special order of pointsetta's for the christmas holidays.

Smiling, she recited the little 'phrase' they were supposed to say. [Why they had to, she didn't know. If they needed help, they could just come to her..] "Hi! Welcome to the Yamanaka-- Sai?!?"

The Kyuubi container kept his normally bright blue eyes on the ground as he walked. His cerulean orbs which were usually filled with laughter and hope were now clouded and dull. He owed thanks to his shinobi senses for not running into anyone or anything, because he was hardly paying attention to where he was going. The path to Ichiraku's was just something he was extremely used to.

The snow crunched under his feet, and that was the only sound he focused on. He tried his best to block out the people around him. They would not be quiet about Christmas, buying gifts for friends and family, how beautiful the snow was, and 'Santa.'

It was so uncharacteristic of him, but he had the urge to snort at the little kids who actually believed an overweight man left presents for them while they slept. How did that even make sense? It didn't.. or at least it couldn't without magic, and magic was something he didn't believe in. Magic was what led to dreams coming true and wishes being granted..

He smiled sadly.

When he reached the ramen stand, he lifted one hand to push the flaps out of the way as he entered, and stopped in his tracks when he raised his head to see Hinata sitting on one of the stools. "Hinata?" It really shouldn't have been a surprise.. after all, the old man who owned the ramen stand had told him about the Hyuuga becoming a regular customer.

The blond finally got his feet to moving again, and sat next to her, quickly ordering his favorite kind of miso ramen before turning his attention back to the navy-haired female. "Didn't expect to see you here," he remarked, one corner of his lips turning upward.

Hinata paid little attention the the quiet sound of snow under feet and the flap of the small restaurant being opened. It was another customer, and to turn and see who it was, was in her opinion, quite nosy and rude.

She continued to chew on a shrimp, knowing that she was still just prolonging her dinner time. Not that she bothered to care. She had nothing to do anyway, and if she left now, she'd have to go home. It was getting dark (So early, too. It was maybe the one reason Hinata hated the winter...), and she had to go anyway, but even her strict father knew it.

Hinata was a big girl, and someone not bent on running around the streets at night causing trouble. Needless to say, her cerfew wasn't for a couple of hours.

The sound of her name caused her to jump a bit, and before he even sat down next to her, she knew it was Naruto.

The second thing she noticed right away was that Naruto seemed different. The Hyuuga immediately figured that something was wrong. It caused the girl to frown, but she wouldn't prod or ask. If he wanted to talk about it, he knew very well that she was there for him to listen.

So, she smiled, and set her chopsticks, down, letting her hands rest on her lap.

"I come here often now...I think you got me just as addicted to ramen as you are," she commented with a small laugh, and not to mention stutters or pauses.

Yes, she had been getting better with that. Sure, she was still shy, and she still found it hard to speak coherently when she was nervous or shy or scared. But she had learned to speak normally if front of people she always usually stuttered around, expecially him. Maybe it was because she was used to being around Naruto, or maybe he had just given her the bit of confidence she always wished she had. She was still far from his level though.

"I had to get some shopping done," she remarked, glancing at her bags before looking back up at him.

Sai had entered the flower shop, noticing that no one was running the counter. He expected either Mrs. Yamanaka or Ms. Yamanaka Junior (Betcha can't guess who that is.) to come soon, as either usually did. After all, that little bell tied to the door definitely rang loud whenever someone entered or exited.

While waiting for one of the two to come, he looked around at all the flowers around him. Pointsettas were everywhere, though he knew that they were associated with Christmas, or so he read in one of his books. He frowned. Pointsettas...

They were ugly. And...the LIGHTS. Well, it wasn't his problem if the shop got mugged.

A noise caught his attention, and he noticed Ino coming in, and then noticing him, due to the obvious.

"Hey," he greeted with a smile. "I see you've got this 'holiday spirit' in your shop."
PostPosted: Fri Jan 05, 2007 2:24 pm

Ino stood there for a moment in silence. You couldn't really blame her, even though Sai had been making a routine lately of coming into the shop for visits.

Still -- you couldn't blame her. It was still surprising -yet sweet- of him to come in and visit. She just.. wasn't all that used to it yet.

Finally getting back into her senses and remembering his question, she looked around herself.

... The shop was really overdone with green and red.

Finally, she replied. "Oh well, you know mom. She's got to keep up with all the other competition in the village." She rolled her eyes. "Even though the damn place is too bright at night, and blinds all the customers away." She muttered and shook her head slightly.

"Anyways. What are you doing out around?"

He laughed as well. "Ah, see, see. I told you it was good when we first came here together." He was rather proud of his accomplishment, and he knew the old man was as well. After all, Naruto had given him a new customer.

The blond had to admit.. Hinata was one of the few people that could put him in a good mood when he was feeling down and depressed. There was just something about her.. or at least there always had been, ever since the talk they had.. before he fought Neji back in the Chuunin exams. What she had said.. whenever he thought about her words, a smile became visible on his face.

Also, now that she no longer stuttered around him, she was a good person to talk to.

"Shopping, huh?" He leaned back slightly to get a look at the presents she had beside her. He vaguely wondered if she had gotten him anything.. not that he had asked for any particular item. In fact.. he wasn't too worried about gifts that year; not for anyone, or from anyone.

His gaze shifted to the bowl of ramen he had ordered just as it was placed in front of him. He closed his eyes, and sighed softly.

Without warning he leaned sideways, against Hinata, with his head on her shoulder. Before she could say anything, he murmured, "Let me lay here.. for a little while.. Hinata.."
PostPosted: Sun Jan 07, 2007 6:41 pm

Hinata smiled as she listened to the boy laugh. She was glad that she could cheer up the boy, if only a little bit. After all, she hated seeing him down in the dumps. After all...he was such a bright person.

And he really was. He was smart when it was important...and the bright orange clothes, the bright blue eyes, to the sunny hair, to his hyperactive personality.

Her white eyes followed his gaze over to her shopping bags, and she smirked a bit. He wasn't finding his gift in there. It was at her home, already. She had bought it earlier that month.

She glanced back at the table as she watched Ayame place Naruto's bowl ofn the table. She noticed that he wasn't already digging in. Just what was on his mind? Surely it was something bad if he wasn't eating. And his favorite food, too. Dear God, she hoped he wasn't sick or...

Hinata wasn't expecting the boy all of a sudden of her shoulder, and though she jumped a bit, she kept as still as she could for the boy.

She smile sadly when she heard his murmur.

She'd stay right where she was until the end of time if it helped him at all.

She opened her mouth to tell of her concern. To ask if he was okay. She quickly closed it again. Maybe she just shouldn't say anything at all.

She sat in silence for a few minutes, watching as the steam of Naruto's food began to fade. The steam from her own food was well gone my now.

"...Are you alright? If something's wrong, you can talk about it. I'll listen...if you want," she attempted to say, though it came out as a mere whisper. She didn't doubt that he heard it, though.

---

Sai listened to what Ino had to say, and smirked when she began with the lights.

See? Light were bad. Such a tradition was...in lack of a better term, crap.

Still glancing around at all the decorations mixed with the flowers, Sai turned to face her and smiled.

"I went to the library. They had a lot of books on Christmas and this hoiday time. After all," he paused, and a light blush appeared on his cheeks. "This is the first time I'm allowed to celebrate this 'Cristmas'...though to me, it just seems like a day for the smaller kids to get toys."

Now, Sai had read about Christmas, and he had read about family and the entire 'Christmas is more than gifts' deal. But, Sai never HAD a family besides his brother...and in Roots, Christmas didn't exist.

"I read that during Christmas people buy gifts for the people who are close to them. I don't have family, so I think I'm going to get Yamato, Dickless, and Ugly something. And you, too."

Sai casually put his hands in his jacket pockets and smiled at the girl he was talking to.

"Is there anything you'd like in particular?"

Ino nodded her head and smiled slightly. One of these days the library was going to start making Sai pay to take books out or read them.

She gasped. He was going to get her something? Her face turned red. Just the thought of him.. getting her a gift was just.. adorable. After that thought she giggled and hugged him, pecking him on the cheek.

"Aww~" She cooed. "You're going to buy something for me!" She said, snuggling closer to him. They stayed like that for a few seconds and she re-thought his question in her mind.

"What do I want for christmas? I don't want to ask anything too big or anything from him.. that's just snoby... and I dont want to say nothing because then he'll think that I just don't want anything from him." She mentally sighed. Thing's didn't look too good.

--<3--

Sakura walked silently along with the christmas-shopping traffic. It didn't feel right. Nothing did. It wasn't supposed to be this way. Not at all.

He was supposed to be here. Not off somewhere with somewhere with a snake who wants to take over his body. She scowled at that thought.

Breaking off from the rest of the crowd, she found herself on some deserted street. She looked around. It looked like some big ghost-town. No kids were out playing in the snow.. nothing. At all.

She kept looking around the place, stopping abruptedly when an Uchiha fan with a cut straight through it filled her vision. Her eyes widened a fraction and entered the house.

Dust and furniture was visible in the small house. She kept walking through until she came across a room, and she gently swung it open to reveal a nice clean room, and a picture frame turned down on the dresser. Nothing else was in the room besides dust.

She walked over to it and turned it over. She gasped.

.. Team Seven.

He was enjoying the silence; savoring it, actually. For that moment, as he lay his head on her shoulder, he managed to block everything else out. There was only him, Hinata, and the warmth just her shoulder was emitting. He could almost fall asleep..

Naruto felt himself drifting into a light slumber, but her voice snapped him out of it.

His eyelids opened only partly as he stared down at her bowl of ramen. Subconsciously he thought about asking the old man to re-heat their food.. he didn't want anything to go to waste..

He smiled softly. Of course she would listen. Hinata was always willing to listen.

"Sasuke.." he muttered. He knew she would understand his problem then. Anyone would, but she wasn't just anyone; she deserved more.

"The past two Christmas's I've spent with Ero-Sennin.. those were okay, since I was away from Konoha, but now that I'm here.. it just.. doesn't seem right.. Kaka-sensei, Sakura-chan.. the four of us spent one Christmas together, but after that night, it seemed as though we'd spent every Christmas together." He narrowed his eyes. "I feel like.. a part of my is missing.."

The boy lifted himself from her shoulder and sat, slightly slumped over, in his seat. "I should probably stop being so depressed, right? It's not helping anything.."

Hinata frowned sadly at the blonde's mention of his former teammate. She couldn't imagine the feeling of loss.

Well, she could. Maybe. She knew that when Naruto left, she had felt something was gone from her, too.

But she knew that it couldn't possibly be the same.

When he finished, she found that she couldn't speak...There was simply nothing she could say. Nothing from her mouth could give the boy what he wanted. Naruto and Sakura had tried hard, and they couldn't bring Sasuke back.

So certainly, she couldn't.

"I..."

She closed her mouth, and wished she could find the right words.

She turned her head when he lifted off of her shoulder, and her frowned deepened after he spoke again.

Where was the determination he almost ALWAYS had? Where was that "I'm gonna drag that b*****d home by the foot!" or "Me and Sakura-chan are gonna kick Orochimaru's a** for even THINKING of touching Sasuke!" he was always talking about?

She knew he had it in him.

"You're going to get him back. I truly believe that," she said looking at him before turning and staring at her now cold bowl of ramen.

Ah well. She'd live.

---

Sai wasn't TOO surprised when Ino hugged or kissed him. After all, despite their...getting together being quite new, he was well aware of the little things that couples did. He was suprised when he felt his cheeks heating up. He was still not used to that butterfly feeling.

Whether as an automatic reaction, or because he wanted to, his arms gently wrapped around her as she snuggled deeper into his jacket.

"Of course," he answered. "I don't really know what you'd want though, and I'd feel bad if I got your something you didn't like, so I thought it'd best to ask."
