Gaming, yea just wondered what games people like to play in general, thought it would be interesting if people wrote reviews for games they were playing see what i need to get next razz anyway...
Currently I'm playing Company of heroes which is a good game, i like my RTS but I'm more of a Fantasy/Sci-FI person when it comes to games so my first look at this game was it was going to be "another" second world war game simply because those kind of games have exploded on the computer game market and most of them are rubbish, this one is different; first because its an RTS and not a FPS, and secondly because the battle system looks like its been derived from Dawn of War, which is an amazing game. The camera angle and the way in which the camera moves has been taken directly from that game and with good reason, it works really well, being able to move the camera to see anything from any angle gives new perspective on certain situations. The collection of resources is the same as Dawn of War as well, capture certain locations on the map which give you a resource boost. The three types of resources are manpower, fuel and ammunition which have their own specific uses. The units are pretty standard WWII units and don't have anything special about them which scream OMG AMAZING at me unlike Dawn of war however the cover system is good feature that's been improved. There are three types of cover, heavy light and negative, which is represented by little dots near cover (such as walls and sandbags) this can give advantages to you units and adds a whole different element to the game and because the German and Allied units are pretty equal it's all about tactics and cover rather than who can build the strongest unit the quickest.
So all in all this is a good game but it can be quite tricky to handle and manage all the locations you need to capture. It is also you difficult to keep track of all your units as the maps are quite big. If you like your RTS's this game is definitely for you even if your not a fan of WWII games.

Interesting... Too bad I'm not into RTS either. razz
I probably shouldn't write any up, mostly because all the games I own right now are old ones for Gamecube. Partly because any new games I get in the near future will be ones I've been looking forward to for months, and therefore my reviews will be extremely biased. mad d
Cool idea for a thread though! Maybe I should start ones for CD reviews, and movie reviews, and book reviews... Gah, now you've got me started... sweatdrop

F.E.A.R. Extraction Point
Haven't completed this expansion pack yet but its getting difficult so i think I'm getting near the end, starts off where F.E.A.R. ends and Oh dear things are SO not good, it is one constant battle to get from area to the next. The system is the same as the first, shoot the clone soldiers, freaky stuff happens, it always tells you something strange is going to happen when your HUD flickers and makes strange static noises, which is a nice effect but its difficult to tell whats going to happen. The slow-motion effect is still there and is generally the same. nothing new game play wise in this expansion that makes it stand out from the original however for continuation of the storyline its definitely worth it. Still scary as hell though.

Game: Dirge of Cerberus Console: PS2 Series: FFVII
Overall personal rating: 8/10
Summary: Fun but a bit short for what FF is usually used to being.
This game is a must have for all Final Fantasy fans. Many of us joined the series at FFVII and this is a sequel to the movie. This is an action based game, 3rd person shooter. As you advance you learn more about Vincent's past and what made him the man he is. With both new and old characters appearing there is something for old fans as well as a new story.
The graphics are very good with excellent movie sequences. The controls have a slight learning curve but there is a descriptive tutorial level that helps you get the hang of everything before you start the real game.
The main drawback of this game is that it doesn't have a long story. It can be completed within a few days or less of gameplay. I also found that at times the video sequences began to drag on.
Still a must get for FF fans as it brings a new feel to FF away from the turn base RPG style. Even if your not an FF fan it is an enjoyable action shooter.
