Up until now, I've noticed that light subjects have been covered based on the movie, such as favorite characters, music, and movie. But I think as a group, we could really get into some deeper discussion. I really love to talk about TLK. It's one of my favorite pastimes. If I find a fan, I usually can spend an hour just talking about it. There's so much more to it than meets the eye. I did notice that some topics started to talk about the more deeper subject, such as Sarabi a Sarafina's roll in the movie. Also I saw some deep discussion from Kage Tenma, and I've really enjoyed listening to her speak her mind. I think if we really try hard, we could come up with some real hardcore discussion. Et's try and make this topic the pride and joy of the Pridelands! ^_^

I'll start off with the subject of Mufasa and Scar as cubs, (or more commonly known as Muffy and Taka). What were they like as cubs? Did they love or hate each other. If you post here, just don't say yes or no. Try and back yourself up. Give your viewpoint on the subject. Details! We want details! knock yourself out!

Heh, looks like I'll have to start this one off myself. First off, I want to put out my opinion. I think, as cubs, Scar and Mufasa were great friends. We know such anger doesn't just appear over night. Something must have happened between them in their cub-hood. I think they were great brothers. Taka was probably not one to show too much brotherly love, but would back Muffy up if the time called for it. Muffy probably loved his brother a lot. There would probably be nothing he wouldn't do for him. It's sad to think how a brotherly connection can fall apart. What could have done it? I have my own thoughts, but I'd like to hear others speak. Time for someone else to take the mike!

By the way, it looks like people want to get into some deep discussion from the looks of the pole, so I'm really looking forward to seeing this topic grow! ^_^

I agree with you, that while the ligther subjects are always good to have, the deeper subjects shouldn't be cast aside. Ecspecially with Lion King, which is definitely a film with a strong 'soul' to it. I also enjoy speaking of the "story behind the story" with other fans. I enjoy the basis and symbolism in movies of such strength as tlk. I love Lion King and truly believe that it hasn't lasted in the hearts of millions, for no reason; to be this strong it has to have the power and influence to really move somebody, to capture their hearts with its sheer display of magnificance. In short, Lion King is more than just a childrens' film and should never be passed off as 'just' that, we all know (well, most, ecspecially the fans) that it is more than a mere movie. Indeed it is a wonderful tale with a true and beautiful essence.

But yes, thank you very much; I'm glad that you enjoy listening to what I have to say, heh eh, well 'reading' technically, but I know what you mean, lol. That's just how I feel and it really makes me happy knowing others can acknowledge my thoughts and even at times agree with them, I just say what I think basically, and pay no mind to altering it on account of sounding 'cool' and not so 'fan-ish' of a single, animated film. I enjoy it and it's a favorite of mine, so to the wind with the rest, heh eh.

As for Muffy and Taka, I'd concur with you that they were most likely pretty good friends. I could see Mufasa being protective of his brother, because I have this idea in my mind, that Taka wasn't seen as fit and strong to defend himself. I'd think that young Scar enjoyed his brother's company yet didn't want him to feel pity for him and feel the need to always stand up for him. Taka was glad he cared but wanted to be seen as an equal to his brother, in his pride's eyes, rather than the inferior sibling. When Mufasa was chosen to be the future king, I'd say he didn't want to gloat though he was proud of his accomplishment. He tried to console with Taka and promise that he was still the same supportive brother he always had been, but Taka wouldn't fully accept that. He grew jealous but wouldn't admit it so in order to prove himself to his pride, that he wasn't incompetent at the least, or maybe even that he* should be the future king, he performed a seemingly brave yet reckless act and received his scar in the process. I'm not for sure what I think Scar did to receive his mark, maybe challenge another lion or chase a herd of wildbeest down on his own, thinking it to be impressive yet failed and became bitter towards his 'perfect' brother. He felt depressed and was angered by his defeat by the event and by Mufasa, after the pride still denied him his place as king and place as a worthy and useful lion. Perhaps the literal scar wasn't where he donned his name at first, maybe he fought with his brother for the throne or ambushed him, attacked him out of nowhere maybe..and Mufasa or other lion, like his father, and defended him, giving him his scar, or if he already had it, it was proof that he had betrayed his honored brother and pride and they looked down upon him for that, naming him scar for the scar he left on them all, so he'd never forget his wrong doing, leaving him to be the outcast. Also never to become the rightful ruler of the pride he used to admire. (Of course until much later, when he seized the kingdom by force, but that doesn't count, lol) Scar is quite the lion scorned, you could say..

Your view on the Scar's scar is impressive. It's deep to say the least! Just what I wanted. ^_^

I would like to add to your theory a little. Let's not forget Sarabi. I think she played a big role on Taka and Muffy. She was their age too, and in time, they both probably saw her as more than just a friend. It would seem obvious that if Taka already had spite towards his brother because of a past event, hurting his pride, he would try and get to Sarabi first.

That's just a theory, but this is what I really think. Sarabi and Taka were destined for each other. As cubs growing up, I would believe that Sarabi, being compassionate towards Taka, would show much love for him. Perhaps because he always felt in his brother's shadow, Sarabi loved him because of pity at first. Then as they grew up, Sarabi realized that this love was more like a compassionate friendship, only being there for him because he needed that extra support, and not because she really loved him. More time passes, and Sarabi begins to notice the real attraction she has for Mufasa, and is left with a terrible decision, one, I think, that really changed Taka forever. In his eyes, Sarabi loved him, was there for him, and wanted to be together forever. But with an anger constantly growing, and his need for an emotional support growing stronger, any relationship would appear more than it really was. He was living a life with hate, jealousy, and spite welling up inside him, clouding his vision of what true emotion really was. I really pity him, for when Sarabi left him, his whole world must have shattered. Which would make these events in TLK more real, such as:

1. The deep rooted hate that Mufasa is king, showing that he not only lost the chance to rule the land, but to have the love of his life by his side. I think such reasoning completely explains his hate, and bloodlust for Mufasa. There was so much that Mufasa "took" from him.

2. The hate for Simba. When Scar sent Simba in the gorge, his plan was to kill both him and Mufasa in one sweep. He wanted to kill them both to get rid of Mufasa and all that he represented. Being a king, father, son, and brother. When his plan failed, and Simba lived, I find it ironic what he did to Simba. Although Mufasa was dead, those deep seeded feelings of hate and vengeance still resided in him. He wanted someone else to feel his pain. For Scar, it wasn't enough to have Simba's father killed. He wanted him taken away from Simba's grasp. Ripped from his life. He wanted Simba to experience the pain and agony of loss, and what he did couldn't have accomplished that task any better. For him to blame Simba for his father's death was probably said out of pain. If he really though of it, I mean really thought of it, I think he would have done it differently. He could have just killed Simba himself. He could have just let Simba run away without the fact that he killed his own father. I think what Scar did wasn't intentional, just done out of the pain he felt.

eek Biiiiig answers.

I personally think Scar probably started being an outcasty chara when Mufasa became King. What with so many kingly duties, he leaves poor Scar alone to be sad an outcasty, as well as allowing him to grow long, wind flowy hair. Scar is just a very different character when we first meet him in the Lion King; he is a different color than the other lions, doesn't live with the other lions, flips his hair (I'm sorry, but this always makes me laugh when he does it in Be Prepared), and employs a lion's enemy for help (hyenas, which, if you listen to the soundtrack version of Be Prepared, you hear him with a little monolouge about how he really is just using them...). Is this just a result of loneliness, or is it bitter spite for not being able to be leader?

Oh yeah, that Sarabi this doesn't really make sense. If he liked her, why would he whack her upside the head (see Simba's return in the Lion King)?

I think the scar may just be a fashion accessory. Or maybe he cut his face when learning to move big rocks by singing XD
