The School of Melodic Magic Every prospective student is handed a piece of paper. It says: Quote: Hello, and welcome to the entrance exam for the School of Melodic Magic. As you know, in our world the only method of channeling magic is through music, although music doesn't channel magic unless it's a rare accident or someone intends it to. To begin with, you will give an account of your musical talent as you see it, in written format. Then you will audition before one of our teachers. For the audition you will only be playing music, NOT SONGCASTING. However, if you pass the test, you will be welcomed into the school. Those who pass the entrance exam will be taught how to defend themselves using magic. It is possible here to challenge other students or teachers in non-fatal matches judged by a higher authority. The challenge may be an emotional eruption or a simple match between friends, but either way it will be encouraged because it is good practice for later on. 4.Please understand that this is a SEMI-LIT RP. That means that you are supposed to type as if you were writing a short section of a story, centered around your character. Please do not use things such as asterisks (*) or dashes (-) or those weird twiddly symbols I don't know the name of (~) to indicate action, and please always use quotes ("") to indicate spoken word and something else (possibly italics) to indicate inner thought. Now, I'm not trying to bother people who know how to RP, but this rule is here so that those who don't, know what I'm talking about. In fact, it probably wouldn't even be here if this RP had been put in an RPing subforum or guild.
5.PM all applications to me for acceptance. My answer is almost always "yes" or "please try again," and very rarely "no" or "you may not try again".
6.Please put the word "toodles" somewhere in your application to prove that you read the rules.
7.You are allowed to have up to three characters in this RP, as long as you don't RP exclusively with yourself.

3.Melodic Magic
This is intended to be a description of the magic in the world on which this RP takes place.
To begin with, as stated above, magic in this world can ONLY be channeled through music. There are many, many forms of music, and many forms of magic. The first thing I'd like to consider is the style of music. That is, what kind of music it is, such as Pop, Rock, Hip-hop, Techno, etc.
(You're allowed to use songs from the "real world" in this RP as much as you want). Each style of music produces a different magical effect, for instance Trance (which is a subdivision of Techno) would have a soothing, watery effect and very possibly heal someone's wounds. Hard rock would deal Earth-impact damage; "Hardcore" rock would deal blasts of fiery rage; Pop (being easy to play) would just deal a light pitter-patter of physical pain, possibly in the form of ice shards (Because the general makeup of pop has remained "frozen", unchanged and the same, for quite some time). The possibilities are endless.
The next thing to consider is the instrument used in channeling the musical magic. Vocals are considered an extremely broad range of instruments, and what exactly they'd do would depend on what kind of singing (screaming on or off pitch, choral, rap, etc.) and the range of the vocalist (bass, alto, tenor, soprano, etc.). Every kind of instrument would have a particular effect when coupled with a type of music, for instance a trap set combined with hard rock would, perhaps, deal a large amount of earth damage to a particular enemy.
The final thing to consider is the song being played. It is also possible to only play chords or a nameless few measures, but to have a full song written and play parts or the whole amplifies the effect by a rather large amount and so is quite popular as well as writing songs for entertainment. The title and 'true meaning' of the song may also have particular effects, for instance playing the guitar parts to Ozzy Osbourne's "Bark at the Moon" might have the effect of triggering a full werewolf transformation (yes, even transforming magic is channeled through music).
I'm allowing a wide berth for creativity doing things with different songs, chords, etc., just as long as it doesn't quite godmod.
There is one other form of magic, tuning magic, which can only be done by a master in one and only one kind of instrument, and also a definite non-vocalist. Tuning is an extremely delicate and dangerous magic which allows one to actually change the form of the instrument, for instance turning a synthesizer into a grand piano, or a trap set into a gong. It's difficult to learn, but those who know it can be quite dynamic with their one instrument type.

He was good friends with Taren back in school, when the both thought they were human, and Taren was perhaps his only friend once he was shown to be a werewolf. For some reason, his Lycanthropy is to an extreme such that if he hears a single note of music, it causes him to shift toward werewolf form, and the more he likes what he hears the more his form changes. Personality: Kimori has a rather fierce misdemeanor and tends to be cuttingly sarcastic. (However, she is a decent person under it all and can be quite caring at times.) She's rather insecure as a musician, particular because she could be considered below average at beat when on her own. Her true strength lies in performing in a group, as she relies on the voices around her to maintain control of her own. She has a strong penchant for modern love-gone-wrong songs, subtly malicious pieces, and anything she can put a strong feeling to, finding it hard to sing or even listen to music that she can't relate to. It is also important to note that she responds very poorly to purely instrumental music, which could be considered a strength or weakness, depending on the circumstance.

Kimori wears a set of dogtags that belong to her fiance. Her left ear is pierced with a silver stud that has a "D" engraved in it's surface. When faced with particularly emotion-invoking music (such as that which brings her to tears), Kimori undergoes a transformation into her more demonic form. This form is in the shape of a large cat (roughly 3" tall and 5" from nose to tail tip) with white fur and grey leopard markings, though with the slender build and face of your average house cat. Because this form leaves her particularly vulnerable (as she cannot sing), Kimori takes precaution against it, often spending hours at a time alone listening to music in hopes of numbing herself to the effects of a particular song.
History: Kimori met the man that is now her fiance at the age of 15. Though troubled--him being overly independant and her being rather frigid--their relationship was strong, and as such, it nearly killed her when she recieved the news that he had been drafted into the military. After he left, she fell into a deep depression that she was slow to crawl out of. She began searching out ways to relieve her heartbreak, frustration, anger, and bitterness, eventually finding that music--which she had never really had any interest in before then--more or less did the trick. She would spend hours listening to sad love songs, singing along in choked sobs as they portrayed her overwhelming heartache, or hiss along with hateful vocals as she let the bitterness of her loneliness consume her. The ability to harness her emotions via the music made her feel powerful, and less helpless; she even found that on occassion, a song would drive her to revert to her very basic of demonic bodies, which was something that she had been unable to do since the death her biological family. With the help of music, she eventually began to manage her depression, and it was around this time that she received word of a school of Melodic Magic. Intrigued, she applied, and barely scrapped through the extrance exam. Now that she's here at the school, her hopes aren't to master her art of music as a weapon or even self defence. Instead she hopes that by studying, she might be able to use the magic to convey her feelings to her very precious Dante upon his return, wanting to end for good the often painful animosity between them.

6.The School
The school itself is rather strangely set up. There are ten dorms, five female and five male dorms, which are used by both students and teachers. There is no obligatory schedule, students are simply told not to leave the campus and teachers teach by simply walking up to a student and telling/showing them how to do something. The campus itself is a group of buildings with scenic walkways in between and around them. At the end of each year, every student participates in an "audition" with a few teachers present, to see if he or she is capable of graduating. Every failed "audition" is used to determine what exactly the student needs to improve on in the following year.
Oh right, there is also a huge cafeteria building and several courtyard areas.
The RP begins at the beginning of a new school year, in early fall.

Roez left the dorm and began walking along a path. Ah, another new year. he thought. More opportunity to hear, play, improve myself and others.
Sooner or later this reverie will sound completely idiotic, but for now I'm fine with it... he looked around and listened carefully.
Karen wandered around with Iona in her arms, wondering what in the world they were supposed to do at this new school. All they'd explained the day before at initiation was that "it'd make sense soon enough."

Kiwi blinked, grinning. "They do? He does too, then! Sometimes he greets people like that, but usually only after they've been eating something yummy! Strawberry, get off 'im!" she said, still standing perfectly still but for her head which she cocked from side to side, like a bird.
