Everyone must have a profile in this thread before rping in any way. You post IC with no profile, it will be a warn able offense.
Characters
Character creation and type follows only a couple rules in this rp. The wide-open approach means that most tings are a go, unless we see god-moding, power playing or other stuff that disrupts everyones fun.
Keep Staff If you work in Forod, your name will be under here, along with your position.
Head of staff:
Maids:
Kitchen staff:
Footmen:
Men at arms:
Etc. Feel free to add to this very short list.
Visitors & their staff Recently come to the keep on your way else where? Here for limited time, till we all got snowed in?
Nobles:
Knights:
Staff for above:
Etc.
The House Hold. The permanent residents of the keep who are not staff.

Magic and Casters
On to the fun stuff. While all the character here will be human, Magic is very open to the use of everyone. Its not especially uncommon in the Realm, with born talents ranging form the very small and almost mundane to very powerful.
However, been born with a talent is not enough. While a very few may discover (and likely kill themselves and others) their talent on their own, such is rare. Referred to as wilders (WoT reference, yes I know) they often have blocks and other difficulties.
Talents emerge as the person hit puberty, although in some cases they do pop up much later for no known reason. These talents are usually very weak however. Mages can tell when another is talented fairly easily. Distance is a factor as is the strength of the person in question.
Once a young talented has been discovered, there are a few options. For any but the fairly strong, or those with money mage training may be out of the question. These individuals who cannot be trained may have their talents bound, for tehir safely and that of others. There is also the option of removal and selling a talent, but that tends to mess people up. Badly.
Those who can afford or barter for teaching live with the mage of their type whom they are apprenticed to. In some cases lager schools are found in some cities, usually for one talent or a few related ones. But it all cost more than most can afford, leaving them with few options.
And without proper training, a mage is considered a threat to themselves and everyone around them. Its not unheard of for young talented to be bound against their will. Such bindings can be undone by any trained mage and are done for the persons own good.
The talents You get any one talent. One. Per. Character. No exceptions.
Elemental: The control of any single element. Fire, water, earth or Air.
Sound: The control and manipulation of sound waves.
Animalian: This is a wide talent wit two branches. General and Specialists. A general can communicate with animals on a base level (Animals do not think as we do) and manipulate them, while Specialists are limited to one sort of animal, be they equines or felines or whatever. They can control and even become an animal of their specialty. They also have a greater degree of control, and can sustain it for longer than a generalist.
One transformational animal per mage. Though your welcome to use (control) others that are close to it( A canine specialist could control both wolves and foxes, but not cats). Most mages with this talent start out very generalist, and move into to one species as they lean and grow.
Mind Talents: Any of these need to be pmed to Myythren for approval. Its a touchy area. Mind reading without the consent of all the characters involved will not be permitted.
Others?: Feel free to Pm Myythren with any other ideas you have or would like added. Ideally it would be something I can copy and paste into here after we've discussed it.

Classes and the class system.
In Athan-Kemen, the country in which the keep is located, there are several set classes. Going from top to bottom there are the Royal family, Nobility, Wealthy Merchants / trades people and city dwellers, Commoners, and Peasants. Your occupation is determined by class as much as anything else. While a commoner or peasant may become wealthy the only way in to the nobility is by marrige. Even then only their children would be noble and the noble family would need to be in a dire place to marry down.
Noble families own land. Those who own land that with cities on it are richer (and more powerful) then those with rural holdings. Like todays, it comes down to money. Owning a mine or other resource at the right time can also increase the standing of a noble family. But it all ties back to money.
And finally: Slaves. Slaves can be from any class, with those of higher classes being worth more. Upon being sold, the slave becomes property, and is written off much like they had died legally. The royal family owns a number of slaves, and uses them as body guards and enforcers in all areas. They are slaves, but due to their owners they get treated very, very well. To disrespect the property of the Royal family is not an offense many live long enough to regret, much less tell of.
The same applies to any slave. To disrespect them is to disrespect the family to whom they belong, and it is not an insult that will go unnoticed.
Only nobles and royals can own slaves. Slaves come from varying places, from common to noble families who sold them. Also from military conquests, and dealers outside Athan-Kemen.
