In the morning; laughter comes from Max’s room. Ivan walks with Chris and Dr. Daichi.
Dr. Daichi: It’s good to see you Chris.
Chris: You too Dr. Daichi, has Max showed –
Ivan: Shhh…
Chris: Hm?
Ivan: I hear Max’s laughter.
Dr. Daichi opens the door to Max’s room; Max is chewing on Biff’s ear.
Max: I’m not letting go.
Ivan: Max – Biff!
Biff: Heh, howdy.
Chris sits in the chair drinking a cup of coffee; Ivan is scratching his head while Biff is holding Max’s hand. Dr. Daichi is writing down medical notes.
Max: I can’t move my legs...
Dr. Daichi: Your speech and grip though is amazing.
Max: It’s because I’m half wolf and Biff’s here.
Dr. Daichi: Ah, well I’ll have to have everyone leave for some –
Max growls with his ears sticking straight up.
Max: Anyone who tries to take Biff away from me I’ll rip their jugular out.
Dr. Daichi leaves the room in a hurry; Ivan crosses his arms.
Ivan: You can’t be hostile with the doctor.
Max: I don’t like doctors… Especially when they try to kick you all out.
Ivan: It’s for your own health Max. And I’m not even getting started on you Fox.
Biff: I missed you too Ivan.
Chris: Hmmm…
Chris sets down her cup and sits up; she pats her stomach.
Chris: I think I’m pregnant.
Ivan: What?
Chris: I’m late this month…
Biff: Chris sure knows how to change the mood.
Max: I knew she was quiet for a reason, heh-heh.
Ivan: Oh boy, this morning certainly couldn’t get anymore hectic.
The nurse walks into the room.
Nurse: Mr. Ruby, your daughter’s school is on the phone. She’s been suspended for fighting.
Ivan: Spoke to soon…
Ivan leaves the room; Biff looks at Chris.
Biff: You really think you’re pregnant?
Chris: Two weeks late; I’ll pick-up a pregnancy test after we get Scarlet from school.
Chris kisses Max’s forehead.
Chris: You two need some alone time.
Max: I like your thinking.
Ivan walks back into the room.
Ivan: Have to pick-up Scarlet –
Chris: We also need to stop by the drug store; bye you two.
Before Ivan can say anything, Chris takes his arm and leaves the room. Max’s stomach grumbles; he blushes.
Max: Guess I’m hungry.
Biff: I imagine so; when I take you home I’m cooking you a big feast with your favorites.
Max: Mmm, lobster and strawberry cheesecake for dessert.
Biff: You just have to get better soon.
Max: I will, I’ll get these legs moving by the end of the week.
Chris sits in the passenger seat while Ivan is pulling out of the hospital parking lot.
Chris: I thought you’d be spastic that Max is finally awake.
Ivan: The Fox is back… and if it wasn’t for him I doubt Max would ever wake up.
Chris: So are you blaming Biff for not being there or because you can’t protect your little brother anymore?
Ivan: I don’t know… I just have a feeling when Max got hit he regained his aggressive side that led to the death of Joey Mariner.
Chris: That was in self-defense, Max would never hurt anyone.
Ivan: Chris, he’s a wolf. They made him aggressive.
Chris: But you thought him right from wrong. Besides, right now Max just wants to be with Biff. After he gets out of the hospital he’s going to be the Max we all know and love.
Ivan: And you?
Chris: Hm?
Ivan: You said you thought you were pregnant.
Chris: I’m late, that’s all… I guess a child right now is crazy, huh?
Ivan: It happens I guess…
Later in the day, Scarlet walks into Max’s hospital room. Scarlet runs to hug Max.
Scarlet: Max!
Max: Wow Scarlet, you’ve gotten big.
Scarlet: Nothing like an age potion, how do you feel?
Max: Ready to get out of bed but my legs are telling me no. How are you?
Scarlet: Momma might be having a baby, I’m so happy Max!
Max: I heard! I bet you’re going to be a great older sibling like Ivan.
Ivan walks into the room carrying a cup of coffee; he sits down in the chair next to Max’s bed.
Ivan: We’ll find out tomorrow, what happened to the fox?
Max: Biff went to get my pillow just for me. Ivan, are you happy?
Ivan: Hm?
Max: You didn’t seem happy this morning…
Ivan: It started off as a normal day then I heard your laugh… you were back and so was Biff.
Scarlet: I guess me and Momma should have told you.
Ivan: Well, it would have been nice to know.
Scarlet: I think Biff didn’t want to make you mad and well; it was kind of nice having Biff all to myself.
Max: Sure is; Biff’s great!
Biff walks into the room with Max’s pillow.
Biff: Do I hear talking about me?
Scarlet: Heh-heh…
Scarlet hugs Biff.
Scarlet: I got into a fight today and won.
Biff: That’s great except now you’re suspended.
Scarlet: That’s okay; I learned that I have more power than I thought I did!
Max: What do you mean by that Scarlet?
Scarlet: It was like a martial arts movie! My kicks were really powerful.
Max: That’s because you’re a Ruby.
Scarlet: What do you mean?
Ivan: Our father was a martial arts’ master. He used to train me and Max before Flare attacked the town.
Scarlet: My Grand Pa was a martial arts’ master? Cool!
Ivan: Yeah but my father said to never fight unless it was protecting the ones you care about.
Scarlet: I was Dad! I beat up this stupid boy because he was picking on Oliver.
Biff: You beat a guy up?
Scarlet: Mhmm, no one thought a rabbit like me could pack a punch.
Ivan: If you ever practiced I’m sure you could do a lot Scarlet.
Scarlet: Yeah…
Scarlet hops in Ivan’s lap.
Scarlet: You should teach me Dad!
Ivan: All right.
Ivan pats Scarlet’s head and smiles.
Ivan: I got to go home and take care of your mother; you going to stay here tonight?
Scarlet: Mhmm.
Scarlet gets up from Ivan’s lap; Ivan stands up and scratches his head.
Ivan: Well, you all be good. I don’t want a call from the hospital in the middle of the night.
Max: We’ll be good Ivan!
Ivan: And you need to recover so don’t do anything foolish.
Max: I will big brother; Biff will make sure of it.
Ivan: Of course; see you all.
Scarlet: Bye Dad!
Ivan waves and leaves the hospital room. Scarlet jumps up and down.
Scarlet: Biff did you bring the smores?
Biff: Yeah and grabbed a Little Mr. Meow DVD.
Max: Hooray!
Ivan comes home and walks into the kitchen; he hugs Chris from behind while she’s cooking.
Ivan: What are you cooking?
Chris: Curried Carrot Soup, one of your favorites.
Ivan: Smells good.
Chris: I’m going to take the test in the morning for better results.
Ivan: All right. Scarlet stayed at the hospital tonight.
Chris: That’s good, I’m sure Max is happy to see her. Can you get the curry powder?
Ivan: Sure thing.
In the morning where the sun light shines on the hospital, Scarlet and Max race down the hall in wheel chairs. Dr. Daichi walks into Max’s room where Biff is asleep; he shakes Biff to wake him up.
Biff: Huh?
Dr. Daichi: Max and Scarlet are racing around in wheelchairs, I tried to get them to stop but they ran me over.
Biff: Oh… must have been the smores.
Biff gets up and walks out of the room; Scarlet races past him followed by Max.
Biff: Heh, at least he’s moving.
In Ivan’s bedroom, Ivan sits at the edge of the bed yawning. Chris walks out of the bathroom.
Chris: It’s negative.
Ivan: Oh…
Ivan’s ears go down; Chris sits down on the bed and hugs Ivan.
Chris: You wanted a baby?
Ivan: Call me crazy if I did?
Chris: Hmph, you should have just told me.
Chris rubs her nose against Ivan’s cheek.
Chris: Why not we try?
Ivan smiles as Chris kisses his cheek; she leans back on him and they fall back on the bed.
Ivan: Chris, I love you.
Chris: And Ivan…
Chris tickles Ivan’s ears as she giggles.
Chris: I love these ears.
Ivan chuckles and kisses Chris.
