Haruno Sakura vs Yamanaka Ino

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Background: Part 1

In the beginning of the series, Sakura is a Genin-level student of Kakashi Hatake's. Initially, Sakura's stamina and overall talent were quite below average, having had only used a few skills over the course of the series, the most advanced of which is dispelling genjutsu. Sakura's main strengths are her intelligence and her great chakra control. She was able to climb trees using her chakra on her first try while it took several days of constant training for Naruto and even Sasuke to manage it.

Inside Sakura resides the "Inner Sakura", which ridiculously seems to be much more ill-tempered than Naruto's demon fox. Inner Sakura seems to represent an assertive part of her personality and mostly serves as comic relief. Sakura's typical gentle responses are juxtaposed with the Inner Sakura's constant "Shannaro" (しゃーんなろー). The phrase has no literal meaning, but is usually translated as "Hell yeah", "Hell no", or "Damn it", depending on the situation (in English, it's translated as an angry and forceful "Cha!"). Inner Sakura is often attributed to being Sakura's defining ability, aside from her chakra control, much like Sasuke's Sharingan or Naruto's demon fox. Inner Sakura actually exists as a separate spirit within Sakura, which came in handy during her battle with her rival, Ino Yamanaka. When Ino hit Sakura with her Mind Body Switch Technique, she only suppressed the regular Sakura. As such, Inner Sakura, after a little prodding by Naruto, was able to emerge and force Ino to leave. Ino's lack of chakra also helped Sakura to resist. After this point, Inner Sakura only appears once in episode 197 of the anime, when Sakura fails to notice that a smoke bomb was set off the night before, and once in chapter 250 of the manga, when Naruto tries to refuse a mission assigned by Tsunade. Sakura, however, does occasionally exhibit traits that would have originally have been confined to Inner Sakura, though they are rarely seen (they become more frequent after the timeskip, a sign that Sakura is becoming more comfortable with herself and is showing her true nature more often).

Sakura's favorite foods are syrup-coated anko dumplings and umeboshi (pickled ume fruits); her least favorite food is anything really spicy. Her hobbies are quizzes and memorizing things and her favorite phrase is 勇気 ("Yuki", "Courage"), although this was once 一愛の十分の生命! ("Issen ai no jinsei yo!," "A lifetime full of love") in the first databook. The latter was also featured in the ending song of episode 170 as a painting on her bedroom wall. She is also shown to be afraid of frogs.

New Personality: Part 2

After the timeskip, Sakura's personality has taken on a much more mature and even tone. Like most people when they come of age, she seems to be much more comfortable in her own skin than when she was younger, frequently displaying the more ferocious aspects of her personality formerly personified in the Inner Sakura segments, instead of just responding within her timid restraint. Jiraiya comments that she is becoming another Tsunade upon first seeing her.

Sakura has developed some quirks about how others view her appearance. When reunited with Naruto, she asks him if she looked more like a woman in a flirting way. Clueless, Naruto remarks that she looked no different, annoying her. On two separate occasions, Sakura has beaten up Sai over the issue, once for calling her 'Hag', and a second time when Sai 'complimented' Ino by calling her 'Beautiful' (Sakura had expected Sai to insult Ino).

Sakura's first impression of the new Naruto was that of a more mature person; she was sorely disappointed to discover he was still somewhat lacking in that department. Despite this, she does see that he has mostly changed for the better, and they are very close. They are able to work together much better than before, passing their second bell test due to their excellent, if somewhat unorthodox, teamwork. She still insults him, but in a much more playful manner than before. When Naruto defines one of their outings as a date, Sakura, still furious over the maturity letdown, replies "Fine. As long as you're paying." She is more concerned for his well-being, especially since he's a target of Akatsuki and under constant danger of death. She has cried for him on several occasions, especially upon learning that if the Demon fox is extracted by Akatsuki, Naruto will die. Yamato tries to give a clear description of these feelings at one point while Naruto is unconscious, but Naruto wakes up and interrupts him before he can say anything significant.

The state of her feelings for Sasuke are still unclear and conflicting, though she still seems to care for him, as she hits Sai when he insults Sasuke. Even with those feelings, during the Grass Country arc, Sakura looked at Sasuke with hostility and tried to attack him. Needless to say, for both herself and Naruto, Sasuke is still a very touchy subject, and both have a moment of comically-exaggerated gloominess when Kakashi mentions him during the second bell test. However, over the past two and a half years, Sakura has become more confident and less self-conscious around him; she is even willing to attack him to protect her friends and bring him home. In a later chapter, she sheds a tear over a picture of the former Team 7. During the funeral for Asuma Sarutobi, she is seen next to Naruto as he stands with a distraught Konohamaru.

Background: Part 1
Ino Yamanaka was a Genin assigned to Asuma Sarutobi's Team 10. With her teammates, Shikamaru Nara and Choji Akimichi, they make up the 2nd-generation Ino-Shika-Cho Trio. At first, it seemed as though Ino disliked both Shikamaru and Choji (Shikamaru for being dull and unpopular, and Choji for being fat), but she actually holds a strong bond with both of them. Ino is the daughter of Inoichi Yamanaka and part of the Yamanaka family, who owns a small flower shop in Konoha. Part of her bond with her teammates might come from her father, as he was teammates and good friends with the fathers of Shikamaru and Choji. She, Shikamaru, and Choji wear the same type of earring: a small silver hoop. At her graduation, she graduated as one of the best kunoichi in her class. She is talented in the way of the flower (Ikebana) as well as mind-altering jutsu. She is the rival of Sakura Haruno.

Her favorite food is small tomatoes and pudding. Her hobby is shopping and her favorite phrase is 花言葉の数々 (Hanakotoba no kazukazu, "The many words/meanings of flowers"). Her personality is outgoing.

New Personality: Part 2
Ino makes her Part II debut in Chapter 284 showing up just after Choji and Shikamaru fought Sai, yelling because Choji was late for a mission they were both leaving on with Asuma. She is seen wearing a short button-up top and skirt. She has apparently done away with the full-body bandages she wore and has also grown her hair once again. Like the other rookies during the timeskip, she has also achieved the rank of Chunin. She doesn't wear her ninja headband around her waist anymore as she previously did. In fact, it isn't visible at all.

Ino first meets Sai when Team 10 pays a visit to Kakashi in the hospital. Immediately, Ino recognizes the resemblance between Sai and Sasuke and develops an infatuation for the new face. Her sudden feelings are only strengthened further after Sai gives her the nickname "gorgeous" or "pretty lady," which is seemingly a compliment on her appearance. In actuality, Sai was simply complimenting her out of fear of a similar violent reprieve to his calling Sakura "ugly".

Later, she and Choji come to help Shikamaru and his team against Hidan and Kakuzu. It is mentioned, that she is able to use Medical ninjutsu, though it is not known if she is a qualified medic-nin like Sakura or possibly acting as a combat lifesaver. Ino was told to use some medical ninjutsu to improve Asuma's condition. However, Asuma knew his time was up, and instead gave Team 10 some parting words — To Ino, Asuma says that her spirit is strong and is a helpful child, so she should take care of Choji and Shikamaru, who are awkward. He also tells her not to lose to Sakura in ninjutsu or in love, to which she said yes. Then, after taking his last cigarette, Asuma passes away in front of her.

She and Choji attend Asuma's funeral. After the funeral, she, Shikamaru, and Choji pack up and go after Akatsuki. When Tsunade attempted to stop them, Kakashi offered to accompany them as team leader and the four have left to continue their mission.

After Shikamaru explained his strategy to everyone, she locates Hidan and Kakuzu by controlling a hawk with her Mind Body Switch Technique. During the battle, Ino plays the role of observer. After rejoining her teammates, Ino suggests using her Mind Transfer Jutsu to take over Hidan, but Shikamaru declines the idea, since the chance of her missing would be too much of a risk to take.

So which will it be..the blossom or the mind walker?

I like Haruno Sakura better. She doesn't really much care for beauty as much as Ino does, although Ino is still wayy prettier(I can find many people who agree). Sakura, after the timeskip, would probably end up being tougher than Ino; I think, in the least. But then again, I haven't seen Ino fight in Hurricane Chronicles yet. But basically, I like Sakura better. I'm a pretty big InoSaku fan though! XD

Sakura would have to take the cake here. I'm a fan of both Ino and Sakura, they're both great characters, but I really prefer Sakura.

Ino is 'hot', Sakura is 'beautiful'.

*shrugs* That's the way I see it.

Sakura is better if you ask me....Ino is an awsome character, but she is too beauty oriented, Sakura doesn't care for anything but her teammates and getting stronger, and she has the drive to do so....And Sakura has MUCH more brians than Ino, so it makes Sakura damn near perfect....

Well, to me their both on the same level in great-characterness. They are both great characters, but I can't say I like one more than the other. They're both smart, pretty, sometimes very loud; they have a lot of similarities. So, here I'm undecided.

Might I disagree? Many other people would to, when you say Sakura's 'damn near perfect'

Kishimoto made Sakura to be an unlikeable character, someone to show human weakness. She really isn't all that strong, the best thing about her (in ninja ways, I suppose) would be her brains, until part two. She is very cocky in part two as well...Ino's a bit more self-centered. Now, where am I going with this? sweatdrop

Ino. Main reasons:

1) less of a chance from taking Sasuke away from Hinata
2) can't be as annoying as Sakura because she only appears in a few episodes
3) Sakura scares me :shudder:

I looooove Sakura so much, for the fact that she's so realistic. She's got a normal family, a normal life, basically, she fell in love, she gets jealous, she cries, she can be weak, she can be strong, she can be rude, she has a rivalry, she's under-estimated, she cares deeply about her friends, she tries to understand people...The list goes on and on. For me, Sakura's the better choice - she's sweet, she's caring, she's cocky, she's pretty, she's gone through pain....Yet, she's still survived through it all.

I always loved her - she made so much sense to me, and she reminded me of myself. (We both have high foreheads, we're both smart, rude at times, don't think about other's feelings, accidently hurt people, fall in and out of love, under-estimate people, don't like being under-estimated...Dammit, I'm flawed!)

Again, don't get me wrong....I love Ino with a passion. She's a great character, but her development is absolutely NOTHING compared to Sakura's, the girl who's changed so much over the years.

I adore Haruno Sakura. End of story. O-o

Ino! Ino! Ino!

Sakura annoyed me before the timeskip, and after the timeskip she is automatically sooooooooo cool. That kind of change annoys me. Also, she acts like she knows Sasuke like they're best friends

Ino is a very misunderstood character. I hate Ino-bashers but I like Sakura more. o.O
I like them both but Sakura more... maybe because she's a nice girl. I mean they're both nice but we just see Sakura be nice more. Though I hated the Sakura that liked Sasuke though.

Can't say I agree.

What annoyed you before the time-skip, I mean, like, after she cut her hair?

And after the time-skip, she's still Sakura. :3 She's just more like Inner Sakura! It shows her development. That she's changed.

As for Sasuke - God no, she swooned over him, she doesn't act like they're best friends. XD She and Naruto are best friend! BFF, LAWLZ!

You've got a point.

Ino is a lot less misunderstood than Sakura, though, at least, in my opinion. People are always shouting: OMG SAKURA LEFT INO OVER STUPID SASUKE SHE'S SUCH A b***h!

WTF!? gonk Ino didn't try to repair their friendship!

The thing it, Sakura really loved Sasuke. It saddens me deeply.

It's true that Ino didn't try to repair their friendship, but isn't Sakura at fault because she was the one that actually broke it? Since she was the one that broke it, I believe that she should be the one who fixes it as well, but I didn't see her try. If a best friend left you for a guy would you be the one willing to be the one who fixes it? You wouldn't be hurt at all, or sense any kind of betrayal? Also, seeing that Ino has a lot of pride her own self , I don't think she'd be the kind of girl who would.

It's true that Sakura loves Sasuke, but I don't think that she love-loved Sasuke when they were in childhood. She didn't even know who he truly was, and what he went through. Back then, I think that what she felt was mere child infatuation, so that's what got me a little angry. No matter how much I do love Sakura, I too thought it was foolish about what she did. But they were children..Either way, I blame both of them for their equally high egos and pride, but I love both of them, equally.xD (Though I can't help but think that Sakura should have done something..) Sakura and Ino pwns.xD They've both had their mistakes and faults, but slowly they're regaining back eachother's trust and friendship. That's good enough for me.xD

Now if only Sakura could see how much a certain blonde, hyper-active ninja cares for her..Sorry, couldn't help but add that.xD Die-hard NaruSaku fan here.xD
