From: 'Alchemist'
The philosopher's stone, in Latin lapis philosophorum, is a legendary substance that supposedly could turn inexpensive metals such as lead into gold ("chrysopoeia") and/or create an elixir that would make humans younger, thus delaying death. It was a longtime "holy grail" of Western alchemy. In the view of spiritual alchemy, making the philosopher's stone would bring enlightenment upon the maker and conclude the Great Work. It is also known by several other names, such as the 'Golden Wedding Garment', the 'Soul body', the 'Astral body' and the 'Living Stone', spoken of in some of the ancient philosophies as the 'Diamond Soul'

is it possible to create the fabled 'philosphers' stone? if so we could be able to solve poverty, hunger and even death.

Supposedly the french alchemist Nicholas Flamel (yes, he was an actual person) created the stone, he then became extremely wealthy and began to travel Europe. It could be possible, in theory. But it is my belief, along with the belief of multiple other alchemists, that the stone holds too much power for one person to possess. You bring up a good point, with it we could end poverty, and world hunger, but really think about it that kind of power in the hands of a dictator he could destroy the world easily if the stone got in his hands. And death, why would you want to prolong death? Death is a natural part of life, and is also another part in the human journey. Also think about this, prolonging death, if the world is over populated now, think how it would be with hundreds of immortals on the earth.

Isn't he also the guy that claimed to have made a homonculus?

Yes, the stone would be godsend. But remember, for all of the good it does, there will be an equal effect on the other side of the "spectrum" for lack of a better word. And the means to which create this thing, for yes it is a corperal item, are moreso lost to time as the location of the fourth six in the "666" prophecie.

Also think of it this way, too. If the stone can make a large amount of gold then what value would the gold have. It is only worth so much because there is so little. If you flood the market with it then it will quickly become worthless. Strictly from an Economics perspective it wouldn't work.

That and the 'wealthy' would probably be the ones to control the youth potion which would only spread corruption and an amount of people that will rule indefinately according to their rules. It is the change in perspective between generations that allows for the continuation of human evolution.

Honestly, I think that having one stone with that much power would be a bad idea. It could too easily be abused. Who's to say that whomever has charge of it won't use the wealthfor their own gain, rather than that of the poor? And really, who wants to live forever? I'm perfectly fine with my 80 or so years of expected life span. Besides, if everyone lived forever, then overcrowding would be a major issue. If only a select few lived forever, then it would be impossible to shift power.

And anyway, if everyone knew the stone existed, there would be a lot of people fighting for control over it. Political upheaval, even wars could start over this thing. And again, we have the economic impact.

Even if there were multiple stones, we got back to a flooding of the market--if every nation had one, they would be almost worthless, and if anything would be used against each other.

I don't know. I'm probably not qualified to speak on the subject, since I know nothing about alchemy (I never even saw FMA all the way through). This is just my own opinion, based on the little I've heard about the philosopher's stone.

Problems: This might seem a bit of an odd question, but do tarot cards have anything to do with tarot root? I know that one is used for blue potato chips and one is used for divination, but it seems like there should be more to it than that.

no pverty would NOT be solved. or would you like to feed on gold? Gold is just a metal and it's worth comes for its seldomness. if you turn lead into gold there will still be poverty. to solve poverty you have to solve the greed problem. and that is a basic part of human nature.

just think about it a little! sweatdrop
