Winter Festival An area the size of two cities put together, filled with rides and stalls and performances. It looks like it should be freezing (after all, it is the Ice Plains) but it's only a little chilly. A huge central ice rink, maybe an entire lake, with plenty of space for professional skaters and partygoers alike.
'Tis the season, after all...
((When entering the festival, make a dice roll. I will then PM you with the result. Don't let on what's going on, as it's a surprise, but you have to roleplay it for as long as it lasts. Edit: Forgot to mention, you're s'posed to roll a 20 and a 10. Actually, it would be better if I set up a special OOC thread for it and you can say in the post what you're rolling for. And if you want your character to be running some kind of stall, you don't need to run it by me. Just do it.))

Aktal arrived on the icy plains. As it happened she was early, most of the events were still setting up. She gazed around at the snow and frost, shivering a little.
They had stopped in the city on the way down. She was now sporting a thick winter coat and boots and a dashing red hat with matching gloves and scarf. The piglet was wrapped up in a small jumper she had picked up for it and more or less had to rip apart to get it to fit. It didn't seem too worried about the cold but its natural habitat was a warm one. She took a sip from a thermos of cocoa, she had picked up one or two other things in town too.

Although the festival was only just getting under way the snowman contest was already being announced. It had always been her favourite part of the festival. Her parents had helped her to enter when she was young. She had had an ambitious plan of carving a snow dragon but now she had decided to go for the more conventional ball on a mound.
She started by rolling a ball in her hands and then pushing it along on the ground. The way it picked up snow was most satisfactory. The piglet, eager to help its new friend was enthusiastically digging a hole and spraying snow everywhere. Aktal laughed at it and continued rolling her ball. When it was about the size she wanted she stopped and began piling snow on top of it and around it until she had a taller sort of oval shape. She did the same again to make another smaller ball which. She struggled a bit to lift it onto the main heap. She hadn’t realised snow was so heavy.
Having completed the main body she moved onto the detail. First she needed some twigs, there were a few bare trees dotted around the plains. She hurried over to them and tore off a couple of branched twigs for arms ad a couple of straighter lengths. The piglet peered at her from its hole. Heading back to her snow man she jabbed the two “arm twigs” into its sides at the front and the two straighter twigs into its “shoulders”. She then produced a couple of pentact pebbles from a pocket which she stuck into its face for eyes. Pentact was a mineral peculiar to Geopolis, so called because it tended to form into pretty pentagonal prism crystals. From her satchel she brought a small paper bag, it contained one Jercaan fruit for a nose and a couple of Peetaws. She placed the Jercaan centrally on the face and drew a curved line below, a mouth. She pressed the Peetaws into the snow just below the mouth to give it fangs. She then pulled a green scarf from her pack which she draped across the straight twigs to give the effect of wings.
She had heard that the traditional snowman should have buttons down its front but her father had always had his own little quirk. The final thing to be produced from her bag was a zipper, formerly part of the piglet’s new jumper. She stood back a while to look at her handiwork. Around her others were beginning their snow creations. There was something missing though, something not quite right. Ah! That was it. She hoped she would not regret this but after all it was a competition. She pulled off her new scarf and hat. Placing the hat on the snow-creature’s head and carefully wrapping the scarf around its neck, the head wobbled a little but stayed on.

stepping back she took a look at her handiwork. It was the best snow..creature built so far. But only in that no one else had apparently entered the competition as yet. Which was a pity, Aktal didn't want such an easy win.
She stayed staring at her creation a little longer, wondering whether there was anything she should change or add. She drew a few scales into the body before wandering off. Threre were many more things to see and do at the festival and she didn't want to miss one.

Fyrinae skipped through the gates, neatly sidestepping the woman trying to accost her for payment. She did feel a twinge of sympathy - after all, hardly anyone bothered to pay for entry - but that wasn't enough to make her part with her cash. "Haha, haha, wow! I's never made it 'ere in time for the festival afore!" she laughed. "It w's a lucky break that we jus' happ'ned ta be in the area!" ((Rolling, rolling in the dice thread.))

Faith almost skipped up to the entrance to the festival, before happily handing over the entrance fee. "There ya go!" she giggled, giving a lil extra as she saw another just wander in without paying. Something felt weird though. She never normally paid for much, people took too much money from her as it was, so why was she happily handing out grams? Shrugging slightly, she walked past the entrance and gazed around at the festivities.

People were starting to shuffle in to the festival now. Past the people waiting at the gates for money. But as yet the stall were still largely unoccupied and none of the performances had begun. She headed over to a corner of the field momentarily forgetting her snowman. A tiny green shoot was worming its way up through the thick snow. It was not a species she recognised so naturally she was interested. If it were just a little bigger she could perhaps take a cutting or collect some seeds. She stared at tit for a little while and nothing happened. She reached out a hand to sweep away some of teh snow and gently touched it. Still nothing really changed.
Frowning slightly she walked away, was there something odd about that plant?

Fyrinae turned around, impatient. It seemed Makota hadn't made it through the gates yet. "Hurry up, ya slowpoke!" she yelled. "I'll be over by tha food!" She spun on her heel again and ambled through the crowds. Anyone watching her who was also accustomed to her usual movements would have been amazed to see that she was actually heading in a straight line and in exactly the right direction.

Faith's senses sharpened as she caught the scent of food on the wind. Making her way over to a stall that seemed to be selling hot dogs, she handed over the money, and, almost timidly, took the napkin wrapped food. She turned around, and looked for a place to sit down and eat. She was cold, she realised suddenly, and it almost worried her. She never normally got cold down here, or anywhere really. But then again, she was getting old, and this was the ice plains, so it wasn't so much of a mystery.

Aktals nose twitched, she could smell something, well not good exactly, but food anyway. The piglet trotted up from whatever it had been doing and grunted at her happily.
"You had best go on a lead my little friend."
It scowled at her but stood still as she tied a piece of rope to the scarf round its neck. It looked rather silly in its slightly adjusted jumper but it did seem to be quite content, it was even making little humming noises.
As they approached one of the food stalls Aktal thought she saw someone she recognised out of the corner of her eye. A delicate looking fairy but with elongated fangs and slightly wrong features, presumably a vampire/fairy cross breed. Where could she know her from? She tried to think back but the smell of the food was distracting. At her feet the piglet was squealing and jumping up and down.
"I'll have two veggie suprise specials please"
She said after studying the chart carefully. The slightly greasy looking fairy in charge handed her two polystyrene tubs filled with green mush in a bun. It looked less than appetising. She headed for one of the little plastic tables set up for customers. setting one tub down on the floor for teh piglet she began on her own lunch. What had looked entirely inedible tasted just about alright, it didn't make her feel sick so it must have been ok but she didn't dare ask what had been in it.
"Never order anything with the word surprise in it" She muttered to herself.

Faith took a cautious bite, the hot meat slightly burning her mouth. It was over cooked, and tasted vile. She had to resist the urge to spit it out, but that wasn't very ladylike, so she just turned back around to the stall. "Are you got any blood by any chance? Even bleeding meat will do" she asked the fairy, who just looked at her in a digusted way and shook her head. Scowling slightly, she whirled around to the plastic tables and sat down, throwing the hotdog in the bin in the process. "I know you, don't I?" she said softly to the girl with the pig, her voice contrasting with her harsh actions.
