Peronsally, I love The Smiths.

And since they've influenced basically every band you'll find in hot topic, which is pretty much every band in this guild, I figured some respect needs to be shown.

So go, discuss!

Hahaha, god yes, that is so true. Post-punk on a while isseriously a large influence on every modern band in some way. Anyway, The Smiths are fantastic! I'm not that big of a fan of Moz gone solo, though.

The Placebo cover of "Bigmouth Strikes Again" is pretty damn good.

Agreed on every front.

Though "I know very well how I got my name" is a really pretty song, I perfer the Moz+Marr duo.

Speaking of Marr...I am so excited to see what the new Modest Mouse sounds like.

Have you heard TATU's cover of "How Soon Is Now?" ?
I really didn't want to like it, but it really grew on me.

Johnny Marr.... and Modest Mouse?! When did this happen? I'll have to check that out. And no, I haven't heard that. I think the Love Spit Love cover of it is okay, but pales when compared to the orginal. I have no idea why they used it on that Charmed show.

Did you know Death Cab did "This Charming Man?" It's pretty cute.

Yeah, he helped write some songs for the new album, and then he started touring with them.

I don't know if they're considering him an official member or not, but apparently he's contributed hardcore to the new album...I'm so psyched.

I didn't know Deathcab did a cover, but it sounds really sweet (as in adorable).
It's downloading time!

I never watched charmed so I had no idea that it was the theme song, until one day I was listening to it and my (now ex) boyfriend was like "why are you listening to the charmed theme??"
I was all "SAY WHAT NOW?"

Thats so funny. Marr is probably like, twice their ages. I actually got into the Smiths by way of that song (and Pretty Girls Make Graves!) The cover is also on the Craft soundtrack, but I have no idea why. Let me know what you think of the Death Cab cover. I'll hunt around for the TATU one, but I doubt I'll find it.

I think you and I are the few people on here who know who the Smiths are. sad

Also, I think everyone in this guild carefully avoids every thread I've ever made here. Which is like four.

I got into The Smiths when I was thirteen, but I don't QUITE remember why anymore. I know it had to do with The Perks Of Being A Wallflower and Mat Devine said he loved them (and this was when I had just first started listening to Kill Hannah so I was drinking up everything I could about them) and I think there was something else that I was like "hey, I should check this band out"

How Soon Is Now and Asleep were my first Smith songs - I was totally not expecting them to sound like they did. I don't know what I expected, really, but either way I was hooked.

I can host it on yousendit for you, if you'd like.

Haha, seriously. I don't even think I should bother making threads... I mean, I'd just rant about Iggy Pop, The Raveonettes and Joy Division and people would be confused.

Geez, when I was thirteen, I was still listening to shitty rap music XD. How is Kill Hannah? I liked that Kennedy song, but I'm not sure if I should download any more. I remember reading Perks and playing Asleep along to it. Hell, I've cried to Asleep. My favourites have to be Pretty Girls Make Graves (the band that took this name isn't too bad either.), The Headmaster Ritual , Bigmouth Strikes Again and The Queen Is Dead (because life is long when you're looooneeelyyyy)

And that would be sweet. Merci! smile

Ah, Joy Division.
Lovely.

Seriously though, from your little last.fm thing, you seem to have pretty damn decent taste in music!

I can only give you an EXTREMELY biased opinion on Kill Hannah because they've been my favourite band since I heard a clip of them on amazon (it didn't help that when I met them this summer they were the sweetest things this side of niceville).
Their sounds changed a lot over the years, but I'd be disapointed if it didn't grow in over a decade.
I'll send you some stuff along with that cover - see what you think 3nodding

Speaking of covers, This Charming Man was great heart
Thanks for letting me know it was out there.

I think my favourite songs would be There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (cried.like.a.baby.), Panic, Rubber Ring, Rusholme Ruffians and Stop Me If You Think That You've Heard This One Before.
Honourary mention to William, It Was Really Nothing , What She Said and Cemetry Gates stressed whee

Awwww, thanks. I try! sweatdrop You should get one, they're actually a lot of fun. I can feed my insomnia at 4 AM by scrobbling tracks!

Haha, what has their sound changed from/into to? I guess that's what I meant. But aww, you got to meet them. biggrin biggrin I know that what's like. When I saw A Perfect Circle, Billy Howerdel smiled at me and threw his pick at me, but I missed. sad

How the hell did I miss Cemetry Gates and Panic? For shame. And This Night Has Opened My Eyes. And Jack the Ripper. JACK THE ******** RIPPER. William, It Was Really Nothing makes me laugh when he talks about the fat chick.

I know there's another Smiths cover I'm missing. But I'm missing it in my mind. The only thing I can think of is that there's this dude that sings There Is A Light That Neveer Goes Out .... in Spanish.
