This building has fallen into more maintenance due to recent attacks. No students remain after a safety decision decided they were best sent elsewhere until the matter of security was resolved. Still, the academy is a place of memories for many of the current Shinigami. They tend to stroll the halls during walks, if only to see what remains of their childhood memories there.

The breeze was light and warm. It gently toyed with the curls and waves that Gael’s hair held. The golden autumn sun illuminated each strand, showing her hair to be a multitude of colors from blue to violet. She pulled one side of her hair back to tuck it behind her ear. The disobedient hair almost immediately fell back into it’s original place, ignoring her gentle command.
Gael sat on an old park bench on campus of the Shinigami Academy. It was quiet, save for the distant sound of construction. Her amethyst eyes stared silently over the scene before her. Before her lay a field of neatly wild grass. It’s long yet oddly neat blades bent softly in the breeze. Blood red leaves danced through the air above, fluttering from the nearby tree. Once upon a time, this field had been well kept. The whole area would smell like fresh cut grass in the morning, before school started. It was a great place to hang out during lunch. She could still remember the times she spent under the shade of the tree in the fading summer sun. It was also the perfect place for firefly hunting. She sighed at the thought.
She was waiting here for an old friend. The friend may not have been as old as her memories of this field, but she was old enough. Kagerou had known Gael longer than anyone else alive… Which was probably why they never really talked anymore. Gael was different now.

She turned as the soft sound of crunching leaves caught her attention.

One could not tell by looking that Kagerou was the head of the research squad, well… save for the long white lab coat that she always wore unbuttoned. Her dark green hair was always tied back in a spiked ponytail that had the look of way-too-much-hair-gel. One side of her long chin length bangs was clipped back with a skull and cross-bone hair clip that was obviously a souvenir from the Mortal Realm, as were the matching earrings. Her cool gray eyes were thinly lined with black eyeliner and the thin wire of her large round glasses. Her lips were painted a deep wine red. Underneath the overwhelming lab coat she wore a skin tight tank top that exposed her belly. Over that was a larger long sleeved and mildly baggy fishnet top. She wore the usual Shinigami pants and sandals, only her sandals were a matching shade of black.
Kagerou seemed to have an easy attitude about her. Just the way she stood, even relaxed, showed that she had a sharp wit and tongue to match. Her feet were far apart in a steady and firm stance. Her shoulders were tilted as the effect of one hand being shoved in a large white pocket and the other hanging loosely to her side. Her honest half-smile made her eyes shimmer with the same gleam as cold silver.

“Yo.” She said light-heartedly, waving once with her free hand.

With slow steps she made her way around the bench to sit just beside Gael. Her right hand remained in the lab coat’s pocket.

“I hear that you’re heading out to the Mortal Realm soon.”

Gael raised an eyebrow.

“Oh do you? Are you a researcher or a spy?” she asked lightly, a hint of laugh in her voice. Although, it was hard to tell whether it was an amused laugh of a lightly nervous laugh. Perhaps it was both.

Kagerou shrugged.

“A little bit of both.” She said with a grin that looked like it should include a fang.

“Anyway, that’s not my point. Well, not really.”

“Okay, then what is your point?” She said with her usual gentle grin.

Kagerou grinned a smile that would put the Cheshire cat to shame. Out of her pocket, she pulled her right hand. Clutched tightly in her palm was a small PDA-like device. It’s screen took up the majority of the item, leaving small unlabeled gray buttons grouped on the very bottom. The screen showed a map of the general area… with two dots sitting on the bench. One was purple, the other was green.

“This.” She started dramatically, “Is a reiatsu radar.”

She paused a moment, either expecting a large reaction or just being silly.

Gael paused as well. The words took a moment to sink in.

“Reiatsu… Radar?” Since it was being offered to her, she took it gently. Slowly she turned it over in her hands, investigating it without pushing any buttons.

“That’s right!” Kagerou said proudly. “It can identify and pinpoint the reiatsu in a selected area. It can even locate reiatsu that is normally too low to sense normally.”

She leaned closer, her finger heading towards a button.

“It’s being mass produced as we speak, but yours is different from the others.”

When her finger pushed the button, the green dot vanished.

“Yours has a special mode… Programmed only to find the reiatsu given off by Michio and yourself.”

There was a long silence as Gael stared softly at the screen. Slowly, her eyes began to waver. Her lips curled into a gentle smile. Wiping at her eyes as they began to grow damp, Gael looked up.

“Kagerou… You mean…”

When Kagerou nodded, Gael paused again. She found herself momentarily unable to speak.

“Thank… you. I don’t how… to repay you.”

Kagerou shrugged.

“I promised you I’d do my best, right? Well, that’s my best. You don’t owe me anything.” She paused, considered it, then continued. “Well… except for one thing.” She paused, but Gael didn’t respond at all.

“Bring your family back. I want to meet them.”

Gael caught a tear before it could go far down her cheek. It wasn’t like her to cry.

“I… Thank you… For everything.”

“Ah, the Mortal Realm…” Kagerou said with a sigh. “I wish that I could go with you. I love the Mortal Realm.”

She stood as she spoke, making it clear that she was about to say her goodbyes.

“Good luck, Gael. Don’t get lost, okay?”

To that, Gael laughed. It was highly likely that she’d get lost, no matter what.

“I’ll try, but that’s all I can promise.”

Kagerou smiled in return.

“That’s all I ask.”

Then, with a simple wave, she headed away.

Gael turned back to the field, but didn’t look much longer. Her eyes drifted down to the item in her hand. Then, with the push of a button, she turned it off. Gracefully she stood, smoothing out her usual kimono until it flowed around her ankles. Then, the tucked her new and precious item into her obi sash until it was secure. With one more glance at the field, she decided that she should head out as well. She would tell the others of her departure and then head out tomorrow morning.

Ty was walking past a newly reconstructed dorm, He smiled at the thought that he would have students again, He continued along and saw a strange woman in a white coat walk by, He smiled but continued along. The grass was long and he thought perfect, and the leaves danced about as he walked through interupting there colourful ballet, He hadnt seen anyone in a while and finding only someone he didnt know didnt help his rather low mood.

Gael's movements were fluid. It was hard to hear her sandals, even on the paved sidewalk. She made it seem completely effortless. What she'd never tell anyone was how long she had to practice it before she got it right. Let them think she was a natural. She tried once more to tuck her hair behind her ear. She was slowly becoming more aware of her surroundings again, less lost in thought. She could hear faint footsteps from ahead, causing her to lift her eyes in her usual confidently graceful manner, her lips curling into her delicate smile. As luck would have it, the footsteps belonged to no other than Ty.

"Kon'nichiwa, Ty-san." She said in lyrical greeting.

His smile came back even if it was only an outward apearance and not a proper representation of himself, He looked at her and saw what looked like the edge of a pda in her sash, He ignored it not wanting to pry. "Hey... THe lpace is looking much nicer."

Gael turned to the brand new building and smiled a little more. "That it is." She said softly. The hair she tucked back took the opportunity to escape from behind her ear and flutter into the wind. She brushed it out of her face as she turned back, but otherwise ignored it. "I can't wait until they are finished. It will be good to hear these halls full of students again. Also, it will be an excellent morale booster, wouldn't it? To prove that no matter what, we can rebuild."

His eyes were lost in the space just ahead of him, "Yeah, assuming we can keep it rebuilt." His mood was somber at least,

Gael's smile did not falter. "Of course we can." She said softly. Suddenly, she felt kind of bad about leaving for the Mortal World. What if they were attacked here? No... they could just call her if she were needed. It wouldn't be so bad. It was selfish to think as though the whole fate of Soul Society rested on her presence. Of course they'd be fine without her.

"We'll see." His eyes had a darker side to them today, He didnt quite know why he felt that way, was he sick or was he just depressed, Who knew.

Gael's smile went to a more neutral facial expression, her eyes focused. "Ty-san? Are you feeling okay?" She asked lightly, her words a question that seemed to gently demand an answer.

His eyes moved over to her but still stopped at the space ahead of him and not on her, His smile had faded. "I dont know." There was a dullness in his voice, like it was an effort to speak.

Gael frowned. Then, with one fluid moment that was almost invisible, she stepped closer and pressed the back of her hand to his forehead. Her eyes showed an odd kind of focus... Then she removed her hand and frowned again. "Well... you don't have a fever." She stated plainly.

He smiled, "Nice of you to make a spectacle of that." His eyes finnally pierced the space infront of him to her beauty, Now his mood was lightened but still a little dark for him.

"Spectacle?" Gael got a funny look on her face, then glanced around. "How could it have been a spectacle when there is no one else here to see?" She wore the fake confused look for a moment, then laughed. Her hand rose out of reflex to politely cover her mouth so that the sound was muffled to a soft sounding giggle. When she stopped, her hand fell again. Her smile had returned. "Besides, it made you smile, didn't it?"

He gave her a funny look and turned off onto the path. "So all you wanted me to do was smile?"
