Character: Blade ???
Wyrm: None at this time

Quote:

Mr. Brodwyn

"Whenever I walk past Mr. Brodwyn's mansion on the way to the market, I feel small. Stories of bright white stone, a roof tiled in what looks like rubies in the sunshine... man, I wish I wasn't a butcher.

But I get strange feelings from that house sometimes. In the rain, when the sky is grey and the wind bites at your heels, I think I hear voices sometimes, calling from that big, cold house. But it's probably just me and my imagination. I talk to the lamchops sometimes, you know."

Mr. Brodwyn is by far the richest man in town, and the thieves have decided it's about time someone else got in on those monies. No one goes in or out of that house, except the occasional peasant hired with a gold coin to fetch a loaf of bread.

Piece of cake.

Right?

For some time, Blade stood across the road from the Brodwyn household, examining it from a distance. A real mystery that place was, as he knew nothing of its inner layout, or of what may lurk in its shadows. Or what riches it hides for that matter. All he knew was that there was a lot to loot, there was something alive in there, and that there were probably a lot of rooms.

Various stories surrounding the mansion didn't really phase him all too much. Though, he supposed it'd be easier if he had a partner or two in this to help him raid the gargantuan house.

If there was anything dangerous in the home, he could probably just fend it off with his weapon or with a little bit of fire. At least, anything he encountered should be able to be defended against with those types of things.

Well, the gold won't be stealing itself, he thought to himself after a bit of a sigh. He gazed up at the dark sky momentarily, bringing his dark red eyes over to where the moon was obscured by the gray clouds that drifted in front of him. It was then that he felt a slight chill run down his spine, but he just blamed it on the cool winds that blew by.

Shaking his head to himself, the thief just started to casually stroll towards the household. If everything went well, he should be out of that place with a sack or two or three full of shiny and precious goods somewhat soon.

Upon reaching the actual mansion, Blade paused once more to gaze up at what towered over him. Searching through this place was definitely going to take some time. He stared up at the building for a little longer, then brought his gaze down to the door in front of him. Without thinking, he reached into his pocket and brought out a small lock pick. Surely the people in a house such as this would keep the door locked, so he didn't bother checking before hand.

So he quickly but carefully began to work at the lock. It was fairly more complex than the average lock any other household might have, so he had a little bit of difficulty. And the first time around, instead of hearing a satisfactorily click, he heard something that was more of a snap.

"Ah crap..." he muttered as he pulled the pick out only to see that it was broken. Grumbling somewhat, he took out another and began to work at the lock once more.

This time around, he managed to unlock the door successfully without messing up another pick. So without further a due, he turned the doorknob and slowly stepped inside.

The interior of the mansion was fairly dark, so the thief took a few moments to wait for his eyes to adjust to the dimmer lighting. Once his dark red eyes were able to see fairly well, he looked around to get a feel of the place. At first glance, there didn't seem to be anything too special around there, but as he began to wander about, he saw that there were bits of riches all around.

Just ahead of him, was a display case that held various pieces of chinaware, silverware, and vases. Upon closer inspection, it appeared that some of the plates, bowls, and silverware were encrusted with precious gems. Grinning somewhat as he stared at them, he figured he'll grab those on the way out. The plates had a decent chance to break, so he wanted to make sure that he could get away with them with minimal damage.

Hehe, just wait till the guys back at the guild see what I bri--

His thoughts came to a sudden halt as he heard a creaking noise from somewhere behind him. Thinking that someone may be up and around, he quickly turned about to see if the residence of the house were anywhere nearby.

But there was nothing there.

For a little while, he stayed put to see if he could hear anything else, but the creaking noises were gone now. Furrowing his brow slightly, he just wandered on throughout the mansion. He only had a few bags with him, since he didn't want to end up over-encumbering himself from carrying too much stuff.

Still, he made his way to the nearest room and began to scope around for any valuable goods. There were some interesting pieces of decoration on top of the fireplace mantel, so he went ahead and bagged those before looking around once more.

As went about the place, snagging and bagging various items, he paused once more as he could have sworn he heard someone whispering nearby. Looking around him once more, he strained his ears to listen. Having someone around while he was working would be nothing but trouble. Especially if he was found, for then he would have to deal with that person in a way that wouldn't end up killing him or her.

But the voices stopped. Frowning slightly, he decided to just stay more alert from this point on.

After confirming that there wasn't anyone around him at this moment, the thief decided to head on to the next room. After a bit of wandering, he found himself inside a guest room on the first floor.

From what he could tell, it was a very decent sized room, with a luxurious bed with curtains flowing to the ground, a delicate chandelier hanging from above, and just plenty of various expensive goods all around. He was sure that even the blankets and covers would have a decent amount of worth. Only problem there was that those types of things take up a lot of space. It would be better off to just snag the smaller, but more expensive stuff.

And that was what Blade did. He went around the room and snatched various things. A gold jewel encrusted candlestick holder, some gems that were embedded in the wood of the bed, as well as a strip of the curtain trimming, which seemed to be decorated with tiny rubies.

Just as he was about to leave the room, he glanced up at the chandelier once more. There was one piece in the center; the lowest crystal that just seemed a bit peculiar to him. Deciding to check it out, he moved a chair over and reached up. The shiny thing was just out of his reach.

Frowning slightly, he grabbed a few pillows to try and add to the height. Being as soft as they were, it didn't help too much, and it made his ground less sturdy. However, it was just enough for him to snatch that one crystal piece.

Upon examination, he still wasn't sure if it was just a crystal, or a diamond. Either way, it had some worth. Just one was worth a lot more than the other. As he hopped off the chair, his eyes caught some movement from the side. The curtains had billowed slightly. Blinking at this, he wandered over by the window, which oddly, was closed.

The curtains shouldn't have moved...

A slight chill ran down his spine as he slowly backed away from the window, wondering what could have caused such a thing.

Maybe it was a rat... Even places like this have to have rodents...

At this point in time, Blade was starting to feel uncomfortable with his surroundings. And it made him wonder if the stories about this place were true. Shaking his head to himself, he just convinced himself that those were just old wives tales and nothing else.

Still, despite what he told himself, he just warily glanced around the room for anything suspicious before returning back to his bag of stolen goods. His heart was starting to pound a little harder, and a slight feeling of anxiety lingered with him as he left the room.

I'll just hit a few more rooms, then leave.. I can't carry too much stuff anyway...

As quietly, but as quickly as he could, the thief darted over the neighboring room and started his raid once more. This time around, nothing out of the ordinary happened while he worked. Taking this as a good sign, he just hurried on to the next room just as he did before.

However, as he walked, he saw a slight shadow move across the wall. Turning about to see what it could have been, or was, he again found nothing.

This place just keeps getting creepier by the minute...

Deciding to slow down now, to help ensure he won't run into anything... unpleasant, Blade just nervously continued on his way. It wasn't like him to be so on edge like this, but he was certain something was around that was following him. And there was a good chance that something wasn't friendly. The fact that he could never find this thing when he looked around didn't help at all either.

Gritting his teeth lightly, he shuddered and brought his hand by the hilt of his sword as he tightened his grip on the bag he carried.

Hissssssss....

Hearing this, he felt some of the hairs at the back of his neck stand on end. Slowly, his breath began to quicken as this whole mind game the person or thing was playing with him was really starting to get to him. He now stood still with his back against a wall.

Quickly, Blade's eyes darted to and fro, attempting to catch any sort of sign of anything that wasn't supposed to be there. Being as tense as he was now, a few of his muscles began to cramp up slightly, even as he stood rather still. He had a good mind to just retreat from this place with what he had. Even if he didn't raid too many rooms, he still had a decent amount of goods with him.

On the other hand, a few of the others back at the guild may ridicule him for leaving so early. Pride in mind, he decided to stay for now.

A bit shaky from the strange little events that had happened, he made his way back to the front area of the house where the display case was. It was fairly close, and he figured he could just take the gemmed silverware that was there.

There was a bit of a problem though. When he reached the case, he soon realized that all the pieces of silverware were missing. Frowning at this, he took a closer look to see if he had just missed them or something, but they were gone. And he knew he didn't take anything from this display case as of yet.

From behind, he heard another hiss. Along with that, he felt an icy wind blow by him. Shivering at this, he quickly turned around, he saw nothing once more. The chilling breeze still blew by, and he could have sworn his surroundings were becoming darker. It was practically at the point where he could barely see anything anymore.

What the hell is going on?!

Hearing a rather dark laughter from somewhere nearby. Now really starting to freak out as he couldn't see anything around him, and he couldn't possibly defend himself against something he didn't see or know anything about, he just quickly made his way straight ahead where he knew the door was. He just wanted to get out of there now. And in his blind haste, he ended up walking right into the door, and knocking himself down because of that.

"Ugh..."

Clutching his head with his free hand, the thief let out a low groan. Though as quickly as he could, he scrambled back to his feet, groped around for the door knob, and darted out of the mansion with what he had.

The moment he stepped outside, his eyesight had returned. Still, he decided to not tempt whatever was inside any further and just quickly made his way back to the guild. If anyone asked why he was out so early, he figured he could say that old man Brodwyn had a personal guard with him inside that fended him off.

It'd at least also explain the new bruise he had on his forehead...

Back inside the mansion, a man sat down in a lofty chair and let out a rather hearty laugh. Upon his lap was a small wyrm of darkness and wind. The man gently patted the little dragon while smiling widely.

"So he got away with some of our valuables. But you did an excellent job of keeping him from taking more," he said.

The little wyrm just let out a small hiss, pleased with the praise it just received.
