I want to know what you guys think about the whole "parallel universes" idea. It's been around for quite some time, and I'm kind of undecided. I want to know what some other smart people think before I rush to take a standoint. Discuss if, why, and how they exist. Please explain your reasoning smile

Parallel universes seem more science fiction than reality to me. Although admittedly, I say this with almost no knowledge on the subject. I would be very interested to see if some one who does think parallel universes to be a probable idea come up with some scientific proof, or some theory at least.

Wikipedia has a plathora of information for you on Multiverse.
See "Bubble Theory" for the one that I see fit as the most probable.

But, anyway, I find that it is possible (with reference to the time-travel thread), within time travel as it's creator. Time travel needs parallel universes to exist, they co-exist with each other. A complicated subject like time cannot be understood just by simply looking at it like a machine, just the same as parallel universes.

If someone dies in a parallel universe do they die in the other? Or others?

And what about creation? If all things are co-exterminated are they co-produced? burning_eyes

I believe it's plethora. =]

If any of you have seen the movie The Lakehouse it's about parallel universes. A very interesting topic, but I don't know anything about it really. I do think they exist though.

But just because I believe in those sorts of things. Like the whole time matrix-ma-bob. Sorry if -ma-bob is an unintelligent suffix, but it seemed appropriate. xd

I believe that they do exist,if you have ever heard of Shrodinger's Cat,then you will know about probability waves.Probability waves control the probability of an outcome i.e. coin flipping.Say you had a box with an electron in it,you put it in a room with a cat.also in the room is a very powerful electron sensor that will expel a poisonous gas if an electron is sensed the sensor will expell a poisonous gas that will kill the cat.no one is looking as two plates split the box with the electron in half, the probability wave is still fifty fifty.one box is opened the probability wave is instantly reduced to 100 percent..if someone looks, remember that no one is looking so they are unsure that the cat is dead or alive,so in that case, the cat is both dead and alive,or neither dead or alive.what this all has to do with parallel universes is that the probability waves are never certain,so the waves continue to other universes and everything that can possibly happen, will happen in every single universe, what is the probability of my turning into a banana at this exact second?not good, but maybe in another universe,it is happening.I believe that there is a universe for every scrap of time, for every action no matter how small and everything that is possible in our imaginations and outside of it.thats why i believe that it is possible

Mhm, I believe that there are countless dimensions...one for different decisions we make each day. From huge ones to small ones like what we eat for dinner.

My boyfriend and I were in a car accident a couple months ago, I was sitting on the floor of our friend's truck without a seatbelt. When we were outside away from everyone else, he looked so scared and sad. He said to me...

"You know the whole different dimension stuff? Well what if there's one where you just died?"

It was a simple thing to say but it was so powerful in the given situation I'll never forget it. If you think about it, everyday we may die in another universe.

Yes, very true, or we may live on in another, while dying in this one.

I just can't do without ya

-------------------------------------------------

Honestly? hmm. I must say that I think there might be... but really have no clue. Mabey, just mabey theres only one? where everything that happens here, happens opposite there? or something along those lines. I guess if I keep going I'll just blend away to my whole thought on is there other life on the end of a black hole huh? Which I say because If there is but one other universe, It must be on the other end of a black hole. Cause I don't believe that all black holes do is collapse all matter that gets near it only to eventually devoure itself and all that is. But like I said, just blending away so you can leave me undesided here friends. Oh, yes and I would just like to say Keanu Reeves is hot. So there. I'm done. ()^_^

Can you tell me that this is fair?

Me and an old friend of mine talk a lot about parallel universes, with alternate timelines and series of events. There's so many ideas that my friend came up with that I simply can't write them all down.

Well, black holes crush matter into an infinitsimily (sp?) small singularity (I have a theory on white holes and the beggining of the universe, mabye I'll post it later), so given that it does transport matter from one universe to another through an Einstein-Rosenburg Bridge, the matter is definately not the same as it was before it entered. My theory is that, once the matter comes out the other side (the white hole) it has been crushed into new matter, similar to what there was after the creation of this universe (Although I believe that it was not the universe that came to be, but the matter in it).

I have a strong feeling I'll post that theory later, when I get my other computer up and running again.

Personally, I like the idea that every human choice spawns a new reality. For example, some guy gets drunk, comes home, his wife shoots him. In the other half of the universes, he didn't get drunk, came home on time, and made a kid. Going way back into prehistory, the world could be entirely different.

I just like the idea since it's the most workable into a sci-fi novel, though. I like to write... sweatdrop

hm, as I recall, a group of scientists has nearly proven their existence. Well, when light is shown onto a board with two slots in it, its wave properties cause it to show up to five dashes of light on the surface behind it. When the same thing is done with a beam of particles, instead of showing two stripes of the particles on the surface behind, the particles shown in the same pattern as light. This would mean that somehow each particle would have to be in multiple places at once and go through both slots, which would theoretically require mulitiple dimensions of space to exist.
