Oh my goodness.. I have FUN with this one.
If ever someone hears the word "Christian" they usually clam up.
I promise you I'm not dat bad. ^_^
So what do people ususally see when they see "Christians"?
I'm thinkin'
hymnal books
boring sermons
rules upon rules upon rules...
people who are hypocritical
freaky people that raise thier hands and talk all 'spiritual', they say 'amen' alot or 'God bless you'
or REALLY boring music that's intimidating...
Any of this ringing a bell?
Well I would like to 'illuminate' the situation...
Exhibit A... "Hell or Bust"
Christ died so we wouldn't have to go to Hell... heck, he went through hell, for us. All He wants to be is a best friend, someone who can offer you a free gift and a ticket to the biggest party in history... heaven. And boy is it going to be a PARTY!
Exhibit B... "Unapproachable"
^_^ if Christ was this big dude who's destiny it was to strike us down... why did the little children RUN to Him? The Pharisees were the 'unapproachable' ones, and He was thier enemy... He wants to be more like a big brother who you can run to and play with... He wants to have fun, laugh, walk with you... lemme tell ya he's got a great sense of humor (i.e. the platypus) but he also wants to be a shoulder you can cry on, and someone you can run to in times of trouble. You ask Him how much He loves you and He will smile, stretch his hands out on the cross, and say "This much"
Exhibit C... "Old-tymer hymnals" (having any fun yet?)
One of the things that I have found, especially today, is Christian music is SO diverse. Ever seen a black chior breakin' down to "Wade in the Water"? Its a blast! (and for the record, that was not a racial comment, but African American chiors got Soul, you know what I'm sayin?) Or if your not the chior type there is rock, hip hop, contemporary.. you name it, Christian music has got it somewhere. One of my personal favorites is "The Real Party" by Mary Mary. So it can be taylored to what you enjoy... SO if you think Christian Music is boring.. you probably haven'f found your niche.
Exhibit D... "Church" (dun dun DUN)
Dude... its not some building. Its a fellowship and time to chill with your fellow believers. A chance to join together and hang out in His house. If it's a major drag, maybe you haven't found a group that matches your interests. The Church is a body, or collection of believers, it doesn't matter if they are in a building, on the street, or even chattin in forums.
Exhibit E... "Wow this is draggin forever" (Hey sermons aint that bad)
If you don't get anything out of the pastor's stories, teachings, or ramblings, your probably bored to death. In that case, your chillin' in the wrong crowd. Find a pastor that you like to listen to, and actually learn from. If you can't find anybody, find a group your age, a Bible study maybe.
(another scary word people "Bible study"...) thier actually really fun, cause everyone sees he section in a different light, then you talk about it, and see if you can sense God smiling.
Exhibit F... "Just a Religion" (ok then I'm done, I promise)
More like a "Relationship" a "Fellowship" of friends who are planning for a big party. The struggle is here on earth, cause Christ doesn't rule here yet (Newsflash: the Devil does... have you noticed?) If it's just a religion, why has one man, and one book, made a bigger impact than any in history. Not to mention, there have been more attempts to destroy the Israelites, the Bible and Christianity, than any other religion?
Oh there's always more, but I think I'll spare you the endless chatter, and me the writers cramp.
So... in a nutshell... Me and my buddy Jesus, we wanna say "hey, sup, how can we help you today?"
