Elgala_Chan's Christian FAQ

Christianity as I will define it is the strict devotion of one's life to the teachings of Christ as they have been written in the Holy Bible and the worship of the holy Trinity. Then to a lesser extent a devotion to the church as an organized body in order spread the teachings of Christ through the teachings of Paul and a few other New Testament writers. For those of you who don't know the trinity is the Father, the Son(Christ) and the Holy Spirit.
If you have a problem with this definition that involves heretical sects don't bother me if not feel free to PM me or make a comment in the thread.

The Most important teaching in Christianity is the Law of Agape which I feel is most clearly defined in Mathew 22.
Mathew 22:36-40 NASB
36"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?"
37And He said to him, " 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.'
38"This is the great and foremost commandment.
39"The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.'
40"On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets."
I think important to recognize the level of devotion that is required by these two laws.

The end of the old law is first referenced here in Mathew 5.
Mathew 5:17-18
17"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.

18"For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

The word for fulfill means to make complete and by accomplished he's referring to his death on the cross which is clarified in Colossians 2.
Colossians 2:10-15 NASB
10and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority;

11and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ;

12having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

13When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,

14having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

15When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.

The other references to the end of the old law are in Acts 15 and Galatians 5.

Christianity is monotheistic.
monotheistic references

Deuteronomy 32:34
39 "See now that I myself am He!
There is no god besides me.
I put to death and I bring to life,
I have wounded and I will heal,
and no one can deliver out of my hand.

Deuteronomy 4:37
27 YHWH will scatter you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive among the nations to which YHWH will drive you. 28 There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell. 29 But if from there you seek YHWH your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Isaiah 2:20
20 In that day men will throw away
to the rodents and bats
their idols of silver and idols of gold,
which they made to worship.

Jeremiah 1:16
16 I will pronounce my judgments on my people
because of their wickedness in forsaking me,
in burning incense to other gods
and in worshiping what their hands have made.

Jeremiah 25:6
6 Do not follow other gods to serve and worship them; do not provoke me to anger with what your hands have made. Then I will not harm you."

Acts 4:43
43You have lifted up the shrine of Molech
and the star of your god Rephan,
the idols you made to worship.
Therefore I will send you into exile' beyond Babylon.

2 Chronicles 33:22
22 He did evil in the eyes of YHWH, as his father Manasseh had done. Amon worshiped and offered sacrifices to all the idols Manasseh had made.

2 Samuel 7:22
22 "How great you are, O Sovereign YHWH! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.

1 Kings 8:32
23 and said:
"O YHWH, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.

2 Kings 5:15
15 Then Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God. He stood before him and said, "Now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel. Please accept now a gift from your servant."

1 Chronicles 17:20
20 "There is no one like you, O YHWH, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.

2 Chronicles 6:14
14 He said:
"O YHWH, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven or on earth—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.

Isaiah 44:4-6
4 For the sake of Jacob my servant,
of Israel my chosen,
I summon you by name
and bestow on you a title of honor,
though you do not acknowledge me.

5 I am YHWH, and there is no other;
apart from me there is no God.
I will strengthen you,
though you have not acknowledged me,

6 so that from the rising of the sun
to the place of its setting
men may know there is none besides me.
I am the YHWH, and there is no other.

1 Corinthians 8:4
4So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no God but one.

Isaiah 45:14
14 This is what the LORD says:
"The products of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush, [a]
and those tall Sabeans—
they will come over to you
and will be yours;
they will trudge behind you,
coming over to you in chains.
They will bow down before you
and plead with you, saying,
'Surely God is with you, and there is no other;
there is no other god.' "

Mark 12:32
32"Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.

There is no one like YHWH on the whole earth, there is no God but YHWH and to worship any other god would be to worship that which human hands have made.
YHWH=God's personal name which I edited from LORD which is a replacement word for his name as to not encourage people to say his name out loud in a frivolous manner. Using the word lord keeps in line with the tradition of pronouncing the vowel marks over YHWH which was adonai which means lord.

Homosexuality in Christianity, the verses that deal with homosexuality are Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1, 1 Corinthians 6:9 and 1 Timothy 1:10. Now with the end of the old law Leviticus can't be legitimately applied to establish a blanket condemnation and the New Testament references have serious translational issues with them which are addressed in Ananel's thesis. However you may feel about the translational issues in this case it still goes against early church teachings to interfere with the lives of nonbelievers.
1 Corinthians 5:12-13 NASB
12For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church?
13But those who are outside, God judges. REMOVE THE WICKED MAN FROM AMONG YOURSELVES.
Which means supporting unjust laws should not be accepted by the church.

Hell in Christianity.
Mathew 25:31-46 NASB
31"But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.

32"All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats;

33and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.

34"Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

35'For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;

36naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.'

37"Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink?

38'And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You?

39'When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?'

40"The King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.'

41"Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;

42for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink;

43I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.'

44"Then they themselves also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?'

45"Then He will answer them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'

46"These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Luke 16:19-31 NASB
19"Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, joyously living in splendor every day.

20"And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores,

21and longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man's table; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores.

22"Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried.

23"In Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom.

24"And he cried out and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.'

25"But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony.

26'And besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, so that those who wish to come over from here to you will not be able, and that none may cross over from there to us.'

27"And he said, 'Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father's house--

28for I have five brothers--in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'

29"But Abraham said, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.'

30"But he said, 'No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!'

31"But he said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.'"

Those who are wicked and neglect the poor will go and burn forever in eternal punishment.
UPDATE: I now have serious doubts about the translation of the word aionios[eternal] and it's usage in Mathew 25 and Luke 16.
FINE PRINT:
If you have any problems involving me not accepting heretical sects or if you have any problems involving me accepting the premise of the trinity I don't care and I will not acknowledge any posts made on these subjects.

Yeah, and I'd love to see how the christian "god" would like it if HE was judged as harshly....

What's the old saying, "What's good for the goose....?"
