...Is a pile of copied crap. A waste of paper. Paolini copies all of his ideas from better authors! He has nicked ideas/plot lines from Star Wars, Ursula Le Guin, Tolkein and even Rowling!
Also, I saw spelling mistakes, horrific grammatical errors, and other things that an author should never have in their work.
But what your opinions on this atrocity?

Please don't hate me personally, but while you are right about plot stealing perhaps, I still believe that the scenes he creates are beautiful, also I don't see where the spelling mistakes.

I haven't read it, but my friend says that he didn't develope the characters very deeply, however, she loved it and I bought her Eldest for Christmas. I was pissed off, because she got me the DaVinci Code, hmph.

I've never read the book, I'm planning to sometime though, when I see it in the library. It's hard to know what to think because I've had some people tell me that it's the best fantasy book ever and others say it's boring and rubbish. confused

Yesterday in book group we were discussing it and my ICT teacher (used to be an English teacer, hence she runs book club) absolutely hated it, however one of my friends absolutely loved it so we had a bit of a rift in the group then! 'Twas quite amusing!

What's your principle against it? lol I've read it - In my opinion it's readable and quite fast-paced. The subject matter doesn't really interest me but I found the plot tolerable enough to read the book to the end.

Because almost everything it talks about is a load of crap though it's presented in a believable fashion so you end up with far to many people actually taking it literally and wanting to try and join Opus Dei and the like. I just don't want to read it. It's not the sort of book I'd pick up.

Perhaps there are some silly people who want to join Opus Dei or go looking for the holy grail after reading the book... rolleyes *rolling eyes at the silly people*

/Hello, Eragon-ers and Antis! I really despise Eragon. But I don't blame it Paolini entirely. I blame it on his parents, because they self published it, because they home-schooled him, and basically because they made him who is is today(to my dismay). I blame it on the publisher who picked up his book. I blame a huge part of it on his editor, who didn't actually edit the book to any percievable extent. Anyway, I thought the book was hyped beyond belief, and it made me want to vomit. (I mean all of this in the nicest possible way)

I have a copy published in Britain by Corgi, and it isn't even translated from American English to English. I was disgusted. And people think that it was such an achievement that he got it published...

The killing of thousand of anti's faith in the publishing world, good reason, and in most of humanity was just an unfortunate side effect.

Yes...The publishing world was once notoriously difficult to puncture with a novel. You needed real talent. Unfortunately, this "Best of the best" strategy has been broken by a idiotic teen with a cliched fantasy.
