I know I shouldn't do this, because it'll get really ugly, really quickly. But I wish to start a discussion about our current leadership, President G.W. Bush. I want to know your opinions on him, the war, and any statistics you found. Make sure to validate a source, or you won't be taken seriously.
Open for discussion!

It probably will get ugly, as politics usually do...all I can offer is once you are old enough to vote...go do it! I hate hearing some members of my family whine constantly about Bush and this policy and that policy , and I KNOW they dont bother to vote. Strange.

It bothers me when people complain and then don't vote. It makes no sense to me. I really don't hate Bush all that much. He is a decent guy I think, but his stance on enviornmental and scientific issues bother me.

Yeah Bush is an ok guy, and in total reality, there could never be one sole person to run this country that everyone would like or be happy with, there's just too many people to please!

Exactly. I just think that the Democrats shouldn't be in power. I'm a moderate Republican, with a few liberal thoughts. I am pro-life, for example, but I do see the point in women that have been rapped getting an abortion. Bush is doing the best he can, while the nation seems to be against him, when they were for him in the beginning. He had the support of the people, but now they seem to think that we should suddenly change policies, ones that we need to go though, for the protection of our government.

I want to know your opinions on him, the war, and any statistics you found. Make sure to validate a source, or you won't be taken seriously. Open for discussion! "Leadership is guiding a people to overcome their fears. Demagougery is using people's fears for political gain. There is a BIG difference" - The Assualt on ReasonGeorgie boy is not a leader, he is a Demagouger. If you listen to his speeches, he has this awful habit of bring up 9/11 multiple times within one speech. Now I'm not saying that we should forget 9/11, but in the way in which he brings up the memory of it, he is using sheeple's fear of terrorist attacks to erode the constition and civil liberties in the name of "security". As Alexander Hamilton so succintly put it, "People who believe that they can trade freedom for security deserve to be neither secure nor free." That may be a paraphrasation. I will have more (much more) to say later, but I must sleep now, so that I can participate in tommorow's parade. I'm part of a dissident group that will be in the frontward section of it. [/rant...for now]

Ok, now that I have returned from the parade, I'm going to give you ten...well, the top ten reasons to impeach Bush and Cheny...
1: Violating the United Nations Charter by launching an illegal "War of Aggression" against Iraq without cause, using fraud to sell the war to Congress and the public, misusing government funds to begin bombing without Congressional authorization, and subjecting our military personnel to unnecessary harm, debilitating injuries, and deaths.
2: Violating U.S. and international law by authorizing the torture of thousands of captives, resulting in dozens of deaths, and keeping prisoners hidden from the International Committee of the Red Cross.
3: Violating the Constitution by arbitrarily detaining Americans, legal residents, and non-Americans, without due process, without charge, and without access to counsel.
4: Violating the Geneva Conventions by targeting civilians, journalists, hospitals, and ambulances, and using illegal weapons, including white phosphorous, depleted uranium, and a new type of napalm.
5: Violating U.S. law and the Constitution through widespread wiretapping of the phone calls and emails of Americans without a warrant.
6: Violating the Constitution by using "signing statements" to defy hundreds of laws passed by Congress.
7: Violating U.S. and state law by obstructing honest elections in 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2006.
8: Violating U.S. law by using paid propaganda and disinformation, selectively and misleadingly leaking classified information, and exposing the identity of a covert CIA operative working on sensitive WMD proliferation for political retribution.
9: Subverting the Constitution and abusing Presidential power by asserting a "Unitary Executive Theory" giving unlimited powers to the President, by obstructing efforts by Congress and the Courts to review and restrict Presidential actions, and by promoting and signing legislation negating the Bill of Rights and the Writ of Habeas Corpus.
10: Gross negligence in failing to assist New Orleans residents after Hurricane Katrina, in ignoring urgent warnings of an Al Qaeda attack prior to Sept. 11, 2001, and in increasing air pollution causing global warming.
Remember, that's just the top ten. There are many more reasons after that.

I kind of see him as a figurehead for all those things (see the post above me) rather than a "leader." It's just like his father told him, "Hey son, I'll love you if you go attack Iran and Iraq and Afghanistan and stuff." That's just figurative, but it's probably true in some way or another. Note the "probably," though.

He also refuses to consider facts, evidence and strategy that may be at odds with what he believes is the truth. If he is truly a leader, he leads his country with blind faith in his policies that preclude the facts.

Yeah but all in all, there isn't many out there that could handle a situation like 9/11 any better than him. He's just another average American that made his way up through the government standings. Honestly, how many threats do you think the US gets on a daily basis? We can only follow up on so many before we run out of the resources to do so. I know that if I had been in his situation around that time I could have done no better than he. Now I'm not for either side of this argument. I can't even legally vote yet. But I think that people should look a little more closely at the human side of this. He knows he's taking the blame for all that happened. Yet he stands up and keep trying.
I really don't want to seem like I'm on his side. I'm not for either at the moment because I don't have enough information. But I just really hate the ignorant people I hear saying stuff like "Yeah guys we should impeach Bush, because he definitely had warnings about 9/11 and didn't do anything about it." I get that a lot around my school and job and it bothers me because I know they're just saying that to be saying something. And this little rant part isn't directed towards anyone here, I thought I should add this because it almost seems like I am yelling at WADR42 but I'm really not. He also has valid points and examples to be looked at as well. I just want anybody who may be saying things like that (without reason) to think about it and maybe that'll be one less person I have to curse under my breath at in the hallways at school. =]

On the whole 9/11 issue, Bush cut anti-terror funding prior to 9/11, and if that doesn't tell you he was in on the attacks, what does? But there are much better reasons than that for impeachment. Like the fact that he denied literally billions in foreign aid for Katrina victims, or that he has almost absolutly dissolved the checks and balances of the three branches of government, consolidating power in the executive, or the fact that he invaded a docile country on many false pretexts (WMDs, linkage to 9/11, to name a few), or the fact that he's pushed through bills that do more harm to the safety of the planet than good. I could rant on, and on, anon about this, but I won't...yet. A PBS special on Impeachment
