The true Test of Friendship

Two giggles floated from the inn’s lounge into the cold January air as the old wooden door to the inn opened. A teenage girl of 14, maybe 15, walked in. She pushed back the hood of her black coat off and rolled her dark brown eyes when she noticed the girls giggling madly in the lounge were none other but her two friends she had taken with her to the ski lodge. She ran a gloved hand over her light brown face and into her black, wavy hair.

She slid her boots off and left them at the front door before walking over to the lounge, slipping off her coat and sitting in a soft chair next to the fireplace. Her skin seemed to glow a rosy color with the firelight making a giggle come from the taller one of her friends on the other side of the table she had her feet resting on. She tore her gaze away to look at her two friends.

The taller of the two had short orange hair that barely covered the top of her ears. She had gray-blue eyes that were dancing with laughter and firelight. She was pale and skinny. The gray tee shirt that covered a long sleeved black shirt hung off her just a little. She was wearing tight jeans and black shoes. Her face had a small smile that on anyone else would have been called a smirk.

The shorter one was blushing slightly, or she could have just spent too much time sitting next to the fire, staying warm as she waited for her friends to come back in from the cold. She had shoulder length dark brown hair with red bangs on the left side of her face that covered some of the laughing hazel eyes that watched her intently. Her skin was somehow still tan after all the months of cold that cause the girl to hide away in some kind of warmth. She had small bags under eyes that showed the long hours she would spend at her computer, working on her stories. She wore a red sweater and black jeans along with her boots. A black hat covered her head and ears. Red gloves let her keep her hands out to read and write. She had a very small smile on her face, one that on her anyone could call nervous.

“Tala, Neka, what have you two been doing?” The one sitting down asked. Her voice was soft and sweet, flittering out from her quickly. Neka blushed more and Tala started smiling even more.

Tala pushed Neka over to the dark haired girl then waved. “Well, Maida, Naka, I have to go for awhile. I met this cute girl and promised her I’d get her some coco. Have fun, don’t do anything I wouldn’t!” With that the orange haired girl left, giggling to herself.

Both girls rolled their eyes. Tala would do almost anything. So they could do almost anything. They met gazes and Maida smiled at Neka who once again started blushing. Maida raised an eyebrow at the -week and a half- younger girl who opened her mouth to say something but shook her head and closed it again.

Neka sighed and leaned forward. She pulled Maida’s head up slightly and made their lips meet. She kissed the other girl deeply for a moment before pulling away. “Before you say anything about what I just did I need to talk. If I don’t say this right away I’ll never work up the courage to say it ever again.” Her voice wavered in fear as she waited for the older girl to yell at her or hit her or something but all she got was a small nod of the head that sent the black waves bouncing.

“T-thank you.” She stuttered. She looked down and met the dark gaze with her own, lighter gaze. “Maida, I love you. I love you so much and I think –no I know I’ve loved you in some way since we met in kindergarten. I understand if you don’t love me but I have to ask this. Will you go out with me and be my girlfriend?”

Maida looked up at Neka. She could say a few things. She could the other girl no, just no and not give a reason. She could say yes. She could say no and give a reason and she never wanted to see her again. She could say she loved her too. She could ignore her. She could say no but she hoped they could still be friends and have things go back to how it was before Neka said anything. Or could she? This was the true test of her friendship with the other girl. What would happen was up to her and how she answered.

Maida turned slightly and looked at you. “Help me. How should I answer her?” She whispered as she looked at the girl waiting for an answer of some kind. “It’s up to you. How would you answer it?”

OH MY GOD! now that was so moving....well...i realy am the type who is so....weak at this....maida...you have to be absolutely honest! tell her you hav eto think about it, and do just that, girl! do just that! i realy feel that your supposed to be, and if that is true, then it'll come to you when you stop and think about it. what else have you got to lose? true friendship can last through the hardships of any kind of relationship. tell her how you truly, truly feel.
