(I just want to say that Aladdin does not count in what I'm about to say because: In the book it's placed in middle east. and in Disney sense it's in Morocco. Morroco is at the top touched by the rest of the world. I want a myth located lower in the globe)
You know Disney is over a 100 years old and it has yet to give me something I really want to see... A FREAKING AFRICAN PRINCESS!! Has anybody seen Rapunzel? She's a white blonde. Now I have nothing against that except that Cinderella and Sleeping beuty are already blonde, why make another one? What the market needs is an African princess. Jasmin and Pocahontas don't count because they're just tanned colored. I want a princess who can represent the african girls comunity. And this is not a racial issue per se!
When Disney makes a movie based on something like a fairy tale it passes a culture along with it. Sure, it has magical elements, but there are elements based on something that is real in some way: culture.
Also it's the final frontear in Disney animation. We've covered Asia, Europe, North America, South america, and Australia. Also space, closets, and under the sea. So why is it so hard to find a myth in that place?

Oh thank all the holy gods and goddesses to ever exist I'm not the only one! Thank you! I was actually thinking of taking an African folk tale and writing an adaptation to send off as a script to Disney .... or Dreamworks.

Ummm....The Lion King takes place in Africa...but their animals...but that might be why they haven't done another story that takes place in Africa.
But an African folk-tale or myth would be neat for a Disney movie, I think they should do one based on an Australian Aberignie myth too (even though the Rescuers Down Under takes place in Australia)

Mice only have three basic colors anyways, and how can that even be racist or anything in that nature? It's not a human, and Australians can be white or African Americans, or Hispanics....etc.

But also - concerning the Lion King - it's got a European feel to it. Very Shakespearian actually. That's why it's my favorite Disney movie. X3 Also, Bianca should have been white. She wasn't from Australia. She's from the Rodent UN. There were people from every nation in the first movie. Have you seen the first movie? o_O I think she was supposed to be French or British. Most likely French though I don't think they ever say. Her accent just sounded French to me. The reason I think they haven't done one on an African myth or folklore yet is that there aren't many "damsels in distress" to be saved by "knight in shining armor" since they tend to try to put romance in all their movies. Even Treasure Planet by making what was supposed to be a male character into a female. Which I didn't mind personally but I just wasn't expecting it having read the book before watching the movie. Anyways, after looking over a lot of African folklore lately I'm having a hard time finding one with romance in it. So that could very well be the reason. That or they really did just count the Lion King as their "African" movie and checked it off their list. XD

Yeah, my roommate made drawings of Disney characters. My blonde friend got Cinderella, my other blonde roommate got Tinkerbell, my mixed (black and German) friend got Pocahontas, and I got... my own drawing of Penny Proud. emo Prince of Egypt is the closest thing, but there were no princesses really. Just uhm, Zopporah was it? Moses' wife. I'm ashamed that I've forgotten. But they made these Egyptians look more Middle Eastern to me. I'm pretty sure Moses's wife's family was black.

Actually Prince of Egypt was a Dreamworks film, wasn't it? I could be wrong...but yeah, there weren't any princesses in that though there were "queens" so to speak. Seti's wife and Ramses' wife.

Im guessing as most of the disney princesses take their stories from european folktales it can influence the characters. sleeping beauty however could have had a more sallow skin tone because the story comes from italy-however the style there is very medievel and it was considered beautiful to be pale and common to be tanned because you would have to work.cinderella, origionating from all over the world could be chinese if the artists want her to be because thats where the story comes from. belle has sallow complexion because she is from france. snow white obviously has to have pale white skin, because of her name. repunzul comes from germany if im not mistaken, and I suppose that influenced the animators. I think the reason disney havent done an africain princess story is because they are not known to some audiences. just my two cents

Ryosei_Hime Actually Prince of Egypt was a Dreamworks film, wasn't it? I could be wrong...but yeah, there weren't any princesses in that though there were "queens" so to speak. Seti's wife and Ramses' wife. I know that movie WASN'T Disney (I'm guessing Dreamworks too.... I HATED that movie...too much religious stuff <_< i don't like movies that have to do with religion) And it's nice to see and African Princess (but OMG she's like freakishly skiny...she's smaller than Ariel O_O) but now people are gonna complain there isn't a Latino princess lol (actually a Mexican princess would be cool ^^) plus The Frog Princess is going to be hand animated ^^ I just hope Raven doesn't do her voice lol
