It is a fairly common thought that black is not a color because it is the absence of all the primary colors of light namely red, green and blue. A (pure) black object is said to absorb all the colors of light and reflect none. This definition becomes problematic, however, when we refer to "colorless" objects which are transparent ones. If we wouldn't say that black objects are colorless objects, then they certainly have color. So to say that black is not a color would be a paradox.

As for the shade part...are there shades of black? Or is black simply a shade of another color? I have no idea sweatdrop

The result of a discussing we (I don't have an idea anymore who was there during the discussion, I only remember me, Fem_chan and Conola) had in the topic already a few months ago:

* If you look to colors as light, then black is the lack of all light, so not a color.
* If you look to colors as paint, then black is the color almost impossible to make because it's the most dark possible. Then black is a color.
