Okay, after seeing some other fans' opinions, I've been questioning my own opinion of Seras. It seems like hard-core AxI fans think of her as an idiotic bimbo, while the hard-core AxS fans think of her as some angelic beacon. And as for yaoi fans...er...she's just there. xd But I always thought she was just really, really, really, really, really, really, frighteningly, disturbingly, unnaturally human and wanted to remain so, and was really used to the laws of society, so vampiric tendencies seemed simply...unacceptable. So yeah, any thoughts? Care to accuse me of slander against your couple preference? xd (Keep in mind, I said HARD-CORE. ^^0)

Well, I'm a hard core AxI fan, but I don't think Seras is an idiotic bimbo. I just like Integra more. xP Seras makes a perfect daughter figure though, She's loyal, caring, and very polite. In fact, she's a lot like me in some ways. So I don't hate her, she's just not my favorite characters and the story would not be absolutely ruined for me if she died or was never a character in it to begin with.
But actually, she's really very strong in the sense that she combated her vampiric urges. That shows great strength of will and heart. She's a very courageous young lady and i admire her for that. She's just not an appealing character to me. My favorite characters in Hellsing are in order as follows:
Integra Alucard Walter Pip Rip Schrodinger Sir Penwood Seras

Well, I'm a AxI fan and I think Seras can be silly at times, but a show needs humor. I agree with the above statement, she does make a good daughter figure to Alucard mostly, then of Integra. She also is a little scare of becoming a full nosferatu. She is fine being the servant having a master mostly because of what she says in OVA 1. The newest dvd in usa...it tells the audience that she doesn't want to give up all of her humanity just yet.

Y'know, I have to agree with you, a[lunie]card, about her desire to stay human. My reasoning: I used to think vampires were just elegantly dressed but wussy parasites. I had no idea about their shnazzy abilities. So, when I saw Alucard, I was blown away. I was like, "Holy crap! Vampires are so cool!" And then came Seras. She chose to be a vampire (granted, she didn't have much time to choose), which granted her access to a host of powers. Any normal person, in my mind, who would choose to be a vampire would also embrace that power. But for some reason, she was determined beyond all reason to stay human... I've never been thrilled with being human, so I find it quite difficult to empathize. Hence my opinion's been, "Get over it, Seras! You're a vampire, there's no going back." That's why in the later volumes, I've grown to like her a bit more, since she's decided to use her powers. Now I see her as a kid with potential but a long way to go. She's still a bit annoyingly bright and innocent, though.

Too much power can be frightening.
"What good is it if one gains the whole world, yet loses their soul in the process?"
Perhaps she is afraid that if she gives in to using her powers too much, she'll lose that small spark that makes her who she is.

Garrant - Much agreement here! 3nodding
Everyone - Sorry if that sounded harsh up there; I guess I was thinking of the friends at school I introduced to Hellsing who all hate Seras with a burning passion. @_@ (*cough* And I think they're mad at her for being so endowned, too xP) No offense to you all, hard-core AxI fans! *bows*

Considering her job, she's got an obligation to do what she can... Good point. She seems to associate her personality and "self" with her humanity. Which is part of what annoys me.

Here what I get from Seras. Her father was a driven police officer. She grew up with a strong sense of right and wrong. Forgive me if I am wrong but wasn't her father murdered. When a murder has been committed to your family you have an overwhelming feeling. A feeling that those who did such a on forgivable act to you cannot be human. To take such an important figure as a father from a girl can do inexplicable damage to her. So she follows in her fathers foot steps to stop those monsters that would do murderous acts. Then she was caught in a real problem monsters became much more than a metaphor for people who kill. She found out that there are things that lurk in the night that actually need to kill. Not just for a cheep thrill but for the prospect of food. The worst thing about is she became one of them. She fights to hold on to what ever humanity she can because if she where to give in she would become everything she hates. Monsters kill indiscriminately and something about that really bothers her. If you where the victim of a indiscriminate murder of a very dear loved one, wouldn't you feel as though you where personally attacked? You valued that person son much yet some one ended there life as thought they where nothing. As though your values meant nothing.

Good insights. Also, to add to that, her mother was raped and murdered. Anyway, I suppose she does feel that way. Now she's in a place where she might have to kill innocents to survive. But then again, she doesn't have to. The Hellsing Org gives her blood that didn't require anyone to die. Still, I guess she thinks that if she drinks that blood, she might be tempted to kill later on for it.

I always looked at Seras as a child, with her wide-eyed innocence and strong sense of right and wrong. She doesn't appear idiotic to me, just confused and slightly ignorant. Her story is something of a coming of age, or development in the manga, from a scared human to a powerful draculina.
But she is in no way my favorite character. whee

You who can not stand being human have no right to scoff at those who can. Excuse me? If that was directed at me, let me say that it was a completely uncalled for and inaccurate statement. You'd do well to do more research before making such hasty judgments. I stand by what I said. "With great power comes great responsibility." "To whom much is given, much will be required." Personality has nothing to do with humanity/being human or not. It is what's contained, not the container.

I'd have to agree with Ace of Death and Gorenza about Seras.
A horrific background such as hers could mess you up. She takes on a hard life as becoming a vampire. It's a tough spir of the moment choice that she has to live with. Though she clings to humanity and seems weak. You see her struggle to not drink the blood placed in her chambers for a while. Then she gives in and becomes such a strong person. I think though she's a monster herself, it helps her to overcome her fears and past. She is able to kill and she clings to Alucard in kind of a family sort of way. He's all she's got. He made her this way and kept her alive. She becomes an asset to the Hellsing Organization and outlives the troops. Next to Alucard and Walter she is one of the only other people that can be depended upon to get the job done for Hellsing. I like seeing a character grow thru an Anime, She's not my favorite, but I definatley like her character!

I feel like responding. Dunno why. neutral
Anyway, I see Seras as more of a younger sibling to Alucard then a daughter figure. Nonetheless, she is very important to his existence. Not only is she a form of company, but she is also his replacement, and I believe she has been from the start.
I also think she is really important in the AxI ship. So many AxI fans just push her out and pretend like she's not there, but they seem to forget, Integra loves her aswell.
Hellsing is her new home. Alucard, Integra, and Walter are family. Of course now is the part where she has to adapt yet again. Like she said to everyones favorite spirit that lives in her gun, What was it? "I've been plagued by a series of misfortunes?" or something.
Her father was murdered, her mom was murdered and raped, and all this while she watched. She grows up, she has very strong convictions to right and wrong, and then the whole thing in Chedder occurs, and for the second time in her life things are flipped upside down and sideways and completely shaken up. confused
and NOW, with the recent chapters in the manga, she has accepted her new self, but in the turn of these events she has lost her love interest, her teacher, and....umm...I dunno, what was Walter in her life? Anyway, now she just has Integra left....and Integra only has Seras. For the third time in her life she's once again having to re-think her entire view on the world, and all this in a period of 19 years. emo
We can only see how she'll develop, and what path she'll take from here on in.... But hopefully this is the last major disaster that will effect her in such a way.
Poor girl.
Anyway, Seras isn't my fav... Favs are 1. Alucard 2. Enrico Maxwell 3. Rip Van Winkle 4. Integra Hellsing
But I love Seras quite alot, and consider her fundamental to the storyline.
