I have a question and I think somone in this guild may be able to help. So a couple of days ago I watched my first episode of Star Trek Enterprise (sorry to you Enterprise fans, I just never did) and I noticed that while on The Next Generation, which was made before Enterprise, they had touch pannels, you know the glass they touch and it has colors and all that good stuff, but on the Enterprise Enterprise they have levers and nobs and it seems a little less, uh, evolved than the older enterprise. I dinna get it. Anyone?

Enterprise takes place before even TOS. Therefore, their technology is less advanced than any of the other shows. The starship Enterprise on the series Enterprise is the very first Enterprise, if I'm not mistaken. Wow, that's a lot of Enterprises in one sentence.

Wow, complex, I wounder what motivated them to make that. I was watching and thier clothes seemed kindof up to date or newish ( I don't really know if space uniforms would advance to one pieces or from one piece to two peices) and I thought that maybe it was a dumb oversight. Really dumb.

Um... Just to clarify Enterprise takes place before the forming of the federation and is long before even the original series takes place in the star trek time line if you watch more you will discover that their ship (the Enterprise NX - 01) has no shields or tractor beams and that they rarely ever use transporters because they are still experimental at that time and are paranoid that whenever they beam anywhere that they will die so they almost always use shuttlepods instead.

Can I throw in my two cents about Enterprise?
Although I don't like how Enterprise has messed with the original timeline of the Star Trek series, I didn't hate Enterprise in general. In fact, I'm actually pretty happy that they have the old episodes being re-run on Sci-Fi. Though, I think it would've been nice to have a reference to Q in that series.
Speaking of Q...didn't John de Lancie appear in an episode of Enterprise? And if so, what episode was it?

I liked the concept of the first crew, just not so much the execution. It was good during the start but the whole Chrono War storyline turned me off, then when I tried to give it another shot Brent Spiner appeared as a young Dr. Soong...Ugh too many future references for me. Though I did like how a leftover borg from the First Contact movie made an appearance early on.
I heard a lot of complaints about the finale too. Missed it but I've been told that it suggests the whole series was a movie watched by Troi & Riker on a video screen. Is that true? If so I kinda like that.

Actualy the Federation I believe was already formed, it was starfleet that was new. Picard mentions in one episode that the federation accepted them into it, implying it existed before earth was part of it. Starfleet had just started, they say that in one of the first Enterprise episodes. Just wanted to clear that up, I know I'm obsessed.

It would have been nice, but remember, Picard and the NG crew discover Q for the first time even though Q had appeared before, apparently to Isaac Newton, some hippy guy, and Riker's grandfather. Although, they didn't know who he really was.
