PWG: Please Don't Call It (The OC)
A very good event, better than the usual fare from PWG. I was able to get a copy that let you choose between commentary and no commentary, so I chose to watch the event without hearing Disco Machine babble on endlessly about nothing. Excalibur is an okay announcer, but Disco sucks.
Opening Match: Rocky Romero vs. TJ Perkins
---Might be the best match from Rocky's entire career. Perkins (aka Puma) looks good as usual. A lot of stiff kicks from guys, and a lot of solid wrestling. The fans were really into this match, not laughing like they usually do.
Austin Aries vs. Chris Sabin
---For some reason, Austin Starr is on the DVD cover. I'm not sure why. Anyhow, one fan or other says something about the Macho Man here and the next thing you know, it's "Macho" Aries! Funny stuff. Aries even drops the big elbow! Boom! Didn't see that coming.
Kazarian and B-Boy vs. Joey Ryan and Scorpio Sky
---Ah, the infamous match where Kazarian gets his hair cut. And it wasn't even a hair vs. hair match. I like Scorpio Sky, but I felt sickened at the way this match ended. This was a part of the world title push PWG was giving Kazarian in early 2006.
American Dragon vs. Kevin Steen
---Steen has gained a lot of weight somewhere. I'm not sure where. But it hasn't affected his work in the ring. He pulls off a few atheletic moves in this match, and the match itself goes over half an hour. Kevin Steen ends up signing happy birthday to Danielson while doing The Booty Dance.
Super Dragon, Ronin and Alex Koslov vs. Disco Machine, Nemesis and Bino Gambino
---Not sure what the story behind this match is. Koslov looks great. He gets the fans to chant "Russia" in this match. There are three masked wrestlers here, but the match itself is solid. Ronin seems to shine in tag matches, not so much singles matches, and Super Dragon is good no matter what match he's in.
Human Tornado vs. Colt Cabana
---A comedy match, strictly. Cabana does a few things that I haven't seen from him before. He accuses Tornado of hiding a hamburger in his afro, and then Cabana hurts his head when he tries to do a headbutt to Tornado's crotch. Iron testicles! Ouch!
Kings of Wrestling, Scott Lost and Chris Bosh vs. Cape Fear, Super Dragon and Kevin Steen
---Two wrestlers doing double duty in this match. Not sure why. Cape Fear vs. Kings of Wrestling would have been good by itself, but it has to be an eight man tag. Not that I mind. Kevin Steen looks worn out, he keeps throwing gatorade at people, and the KOW look great as usual. I think Chris Hero calls for "Double Team Move #7" or something with Claudio. This was, of course, before they worked for ROH and before they feuded with Aries and Strong. This match was given a lot of time, which is something I always liked about PWG. They take the matches seriously, even if the wrestlers don't always.
Total runtime: with no entrances and a few promos, it took me three hours to watch this one.
