Does anyone know if the .hack//sign box set contains the extra episodes on the sixth dvd as the special edition version of the sixth dvd or do I need to buy that separately?

Well, There were some extra episodes on them. You'd have to look under special features I think. There's the episode about Mimiru's mentor, and I think there was one other one.

Thanks for the help, but I really want the one with kite and tsukasa that takes place after the game. I read it was on the sixth dvd.

The episode you are asking for is Unison. It's .hack//SIGN episode 28, and you can currently watch it on youtube, I guess.

I had gotten the .hack//SIGN : Anime Legends Box Set and the only bonus episodes on there was, as previously mentioned, the one about Mimiru's teacher and a recap episode, "Evidence".

Well, it's listed as episode 28 on the DVD, but as I've said, it's nothing but a recap episode. It doesn't show anything new.

yeah the recap was a let down but does anyone know where to get the funny animated one where there is a different style of drawing?

You have to get the last DVD of Liminality because it is on there I believe.
