So this is a somewhat Gaia-related thread, but it's also related to how Aspergers affects your social relationships, I suppose.
I notice this especially when I spend time in the minishops forums, but it seems like a lot of shop owners either have lots of friends or they easily garner a lot of attention and have people converse in their threads and with them quite a lot. I see this in Avatar Talk, as well, and also noticed it in one of the threads I was attempting to spend time in during the recent Christmas event.
I can't seem to integrate myself into these groups or conversations. Often I am ignored completely, at most, during "dead times" I may be quoted once but it never develops into much of a conversation. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, I just know I've never been good at initiating contact, those who I am friends with online and in real life are people who have approached me. Do others have this problem, as well, even online and here on Gaia?

I know exactly what you mean. I simply don't get the social interaction side of forum sites, and how people do it so effortlessly. What's worse, when I feel like making a rant (because rants are awesome), it's like everyone gets offended and it's just for the stupidest reasons too. Like, the way I worded one phrase--if I'd said it differently but meant the same thing, they'd have no problem with it. This is mind-boggling.

I don't really use gaia for social interaction; I use it for ED. I can't give any input into that side of things. Last "social" thread I remember participating in was the million pages thread in the CB.

I can interact a bit better on smaller forums, basically when everyone *has* to interact with eachother or there would be no forum, heh. But it seems here on Gaia that I can't get into the "flow" of the conversation people have going. I don't really do rants unless it's something personal (like on my journal), so I don't have that problem, but I do understand what you mean. I guess sometimes people take things the wrong way and can get quite touchy about it confused Quote: I don't really use gaia for social interaction; I use it for ED. I can't give any input into that side of things. Last "social" thread I remember participating in was the million pages thread in the CB. Ah, I went into ED a lot when I had first joined Gaia. I stopped hanging out there because people get so touchy and angry about things so easily. I still pop in from time to time, but not very often.

Why would they think you're a fool? Well, because, even to a person with AS's view, I have strange tastes, Opera Music, long, flowing gowns, (no offense, but I know most of you guys don't like Opera because some of it is so high pitched, and the stuff I wear, most people consider it itchy and scratchy and things like that...) and, the usual, I don't understand when they're kidding, and I take things literally. And in Semi RP, I have NO definition of Fact VS Fiction there... sweatdrop I STILL think Monsieur Phantom hates me, even when he says otherwise...

I love Gilbert & Sullivan. I don't know if you would count that as opera- many don't. I really hate modern music with high emphasis on bass, not opera. I don't notice others' clothing.

SilverDratini Ah, you met me then. I can't say I've noticed that problem myself. Gaia is popular among the net morons nowadays, so EDers are flaming them, not me. Maybe it's changed since I've last looked in there, but I recall a lot of unnecessarily heated argueing rather than friendly debate. Perhaps I'll check it out again. I wouldn't consider that strange, just unusual. Flowing gowns are pretty, too, though I would not really wear one (I prefer casual clothing). I understand how you feel about the joking thing, I have this problem with people consistently. The people I've become friends with are pretty understanding, when I don't get what they are saying, though. Before they were used to it, however, we did have some arguements redface One friend I met on a forum quite some time ago first thought I was trying to "mess with him."

I can't understand how any gaians could judge you on your clothing then. They don't know what you're wearing in RL, and people choose gaian clothing for looks only, not comfort. Civet Moon Maybe it's changed since I've last looked in there, but I recall a lot of unnecessarily heated argueing rather than friendly debate. Perhaps I'll check it out again. Sounds like you were in debates with a lot of personal feeling attached.

Sorry... sweatdrop I'm being confusing, in real life, I like long and flowy things, and buiseness suits, and things like that... In Gaia, people just don't like my views, and how I phrase things... It's amusing, they say I'm much older than I say I am, I'm dead serious, I'm 13 years old! They all think I'm anywhere between 15-25, 15 the lowest I've gotten, 25 is the highest... redface
