If you are ecologicaly aware or plain scared of Global Warming, you need to see An Inconvineint Truth. There are many people who critisize it, frequently just because it was made by Al Gore, but it really is a pheonaminal film. I realize that it has its flaws, but it touches base on many important, even frightening issues.
Does anyone have other enviromental or politically charged films you would like to recomend?

Fahrenheit 9/11 was good.
I will make a note to see An Inconvenient Truth.
I would say that the best way to really be spurred towards eco-friendlyness is to watch the ends of David Attenborough series. I love David Attenborough. Best wildlife series maker ever!

I think an Inconvienient Truth is a brilliant film. So convincing (and scary!)... I felt respect for Al Gore after watching it - I never thought I could feel that about an American politician! sweatdrop All Global Warming Sceptics should watch it. 3nodding
My only (slight) criticism of the film is that it doesnt spend enough time discussing and illustrating the possible solutions to climate change. It was great on showing the problem, but solutions were only touched upon towards the end.
Super Size Me is a great film for putting people of fast food! lol I hate McDonalds mainly because of their destruction of the rainforests and cruelty to animals but if people stop eating there because they are concerned about how unhealthy their 'food' is (which Super Size me shows) it's fine by me! biggrin

Not just about the enviroment, about all things political! So is Borak Obama..... I agree, he probably should have shown more on the topic of solutions, but hey the film is enough to scare anyone into researching solutions themselves *gasp*a novel idea! So it all works out in the end.... I have Super Size Me on my list. I can understand that it is a good way to demonstrate and that it is for a greater good, but how you can do that to your body is beyond me, even for a good film.

Yeah - It was gross, but it really does illustrate what eating Mcdonalds can do to your body though. gonk I couldn't do it - even to prove a point. I really don't know how his vegan girlfriend managed to stick with him!

And yes, it is ironic to a certain extent. But then again the alternative would be plastic, and that isn't bio-degradable, so it even's itself out.

It does balance itself out, but it doesnt belong on this thread. I'm sorry Sept. Please dont cause trouble in my thread. I realize that this group of people, myself included, suffers from mass ADD episodes, but this is a thread for enviromentally or politically based films and the discussion of those films. Besides, we cut down Old Growth Forests for things such as common lumber that could be made with faster growing wood. Fine instruments can not. An instrument takes much less wood than a house. The forests needs to be preserved, but they are misused for much more serious offenses than your occasional instrument. Besides many instruments today use minimal real wood for construction anyway. The old growth forests arent being cut down enmass for high-end instruments, they are being cut down for lumber yards and grazing lands. You have to use careful methods not to scar the wood for instruments, for common lumber they can just hack away at it. To bring this back on topic in a sense, hacking carelessly causes scraps of wood to be left behind in the forest, scraps attract termites, termites attack the wood and their feces puts out methane, methane hurts the ozone layer causing more global warming issues. *pants* eek

The point is that breathing is a sustainable activity, because Nature reprocesses the CO2 - putting more into the system than it can handle results in loads of the stuff being left out to warm The Atmosphere. In much the same way again, Pianos can be made quite comfortably with wood from Tree Farms without recklessly tearing down areas of rainforest the size of Europe every year just so you can raise cattle for mcdonnalds there instead. (And yes, I have got a thing against Brazil for doing that XD) moon_child113 but this is a thread for enviromentally or politically based films and the discussion of those films. eek Eep Does Thank you for smoking count? I mean, it's a satirical piece about smoking, and tobacco farming is a strain on The Environment as it is... Without people dying from ciggarettes as well.

moon_child113 A movie for the philosophical, I heart Hukabees is a GREAT movie. I watched it 6 times in a row. I saw it, It was kind of okay but confusing... sweatdrop I have a mental block on comedy programs and films though - I don't ever find them funny and I don't usually understand them. I heart Hukabees struck me as being a comedy. >.< (I do have a sense of humour - but it's just rather odd and most people don't understand it. )
