Lose the stirrups. Gone, out of here, no need for them at this point.
Use your thighs, not your knees or your calves, to grip the horse, but mostly keep your body completely relaxed. Don't even worry about a straight back, much... just worry about balancing. Don't grab onto the pommel, but don't worry about your hands. Grab some mane if you want, but mainly lose the stirrups. You don't need them right now, and they're actually hindering your development.
Once you can balance without stirrups (don't worry if you take a couple spills, it happens to the best of us) then let go of the mane. Again, don't worry about your hands until you're comfortable.
After your comfortable... up come your hands! Correct your posture, sit straight, but remain relaxed. Still, no stirrups. After you get this (you can even post, using your thighs) and you get your stirrups back, you'll notice a COMPLETE world of difference. You'll sit the trot like a pro.

O_o you shouldn't ride bareback, though, until you have very steady hands.

keeping your heels down will help keep your legs straight but relaxed and try riding with 1 hand it will force you 2 keep your hands off the pommel and collect your horses head so he or she goes at a more even and relaxed pace
