TraigLighthouse Any help for one who wants to play bass as fast as possibile? You know speed riffs, sweet plucking(if thats what it it called on bass)accuracy, and i play with my fingers(picks slow me down on bass). Can any one help me? A good idea would be to work your way up to the speed you want to achieve. If you want to play fast and have endurance, just start doing scales. Learn your major scale patterns, and run them up and down and progress the scales chromatically. Move your way from the head of your bass all the way to the body. Start yourself at a more than comfortable speed, and then work your way up to faster speeds SLOWLY. This way you will learn scales, enhance your dextarity and accuracy, and increase your speed and endurance. I would not recomend using the finger exercisers. I really dont think that they are nessicary to play or warm up with. If your left hand is slow, try using a lighter touch. Either adjust your truss if you have to much distance from the fretboard, or use less finger strength, and more of your arm's weight. This will make everything quick, and less stressful on your fingers and arm. There really isnt a name for it like "sweet plucking" or "speed riffs". If anything think more tasteful with the music rather than "I gotta play as fast and crazy as I can." Basically any practice that is serious will get the job done. Just be patient and work hard, and you will get better over time.

well i play with two fingers (witch i hope you do with out me telling you) and sometimes even three fingers. like the other guy sayed you should start with basic scales and work your way up to actual songs. a trick that i caught on to is if you aren't changing the speed of your right hand and playing a steady fast song, just don't think about what your hand is doing to hard because then you get messed up and it slow you down. that means you have to get two or three fingering down before you start useing it in songs. i hope any of this info will help you.

I found that I can play way faster with 3 fingers...
i dont know about two fingers any more tho... I stop using two fingers like 3 tears ago... as far as getting faster with 3... run scales at a slow tempo with a metrenome... then increase the speed slowly but surely... you have to get every finger to hit at the same time... perfectly... so doing it slow and working your way up is your best bet for fast stuff

Practice slow, and then slowly get faster. Soon, you'll be able to keep up with any guitar player speed wise.

I forgot to put in the ring, middle , index part... not vise versa... get some classical guitar finger picking technique books... they helped me a lot

practice as much as you can play as fast as you can and start out slowly and work your way up in speed and eventully you should be able to play fast or something, I like to play a steady pace and usually the songs that I play aren't very fast paced anyway so it works out. Not to mention you dont need to play the same speed the song was written you can slow it down or speed it up

If you want to play fast, but don't using a pick, you should play either Lamb of God or Slayer songs. They will help get speed up and accuracy

Practice slow and really focus on muscle memory. Once you are very confident with what you are playing gradually bring it up to speed. Also becoming proficient with 3 fingers might be a good idea.
