I'm a newbie in guard (This winterguard season is my very first) and I can't throw the flag for the life of me. I have to do a stir toss and a flat toss for the shows and I just can't. I usually get scared, and when I don't, I don't throw high enough or hard enough. Help, seriously D:

okay, when you mean a flat toss do you mean a parallel that goes over your head and you catch it at tape and bottom cheater (or tip if you want to be clean)
Stir toss...erm...you might need to describe that one for me. But am I on the right track though?

EvilLilBlackie okay, when you mean a flat toss do you mean a parallel that goes over your head and you catch it at tape and bottom cheater (or tip if you want to be clean) Stir toss...erm...you might need to describe that one for me. But am I on the right track though? Well, our show got changed so we don't have to do a flat toss anymore. xd A stir toss is where you do a bottom carve and then press down really hard with your left hand so it flings in the air. We have to do yet another new toss and I can't do ANY of them. I seriously just need help with tosses in general. I'm the ******** worst person in my guard.

you just have to believe in your own abilities and practice often. i remember when i couldent even do a single(like 4 months ago xp ) and now i can do a double!and it was just from practice, practice, practice. believe me, it took a lot of time, but it was worth it.

I think want you are referring to is what we call parallels/horizontals and pull-hit tosses?
For the parallel get your right arm straight and in front of your face and you left should almost touch the back of your head. Don't be afraid of it! That is the key.
The pull-hit tosses are a lot less scary because they have no chance of hitting you unless there is wind. You've got to build up arm strength for this one.

by "stir toss" and "flat toss" im guessing you mean a cone (or hourglass) toss and a horizontal?
horizontals are tough, youre lucky you dont have to do it.
for the cone or stir or hourglass toss, whatever you want to call it, it does take a lot of muscle. and you cant be afraid of the flag. it wont hurt you, much. just practice until your unconciuos. or you cant feel your arms. i cant even do those tosses very good and ive been on for 2 years.

i love how we have so many diffeent names for things...*sighs* the "stir toss, i think thats what we call a 45 toss, if it is, try pushing up more at a sharper angle with the right hand and pull the left further back by your ear/ behind the head

ok ok ok. ive been helping new girls on my guard and ive found one major thing that helps with tosses: throw it higher. basically thats all it will take, no what toss. (except horizontals). but yeah most you will throw up with your right arm, just throw it up higher. eventually the toss will come naturally.
ive been helping new girls a lot lately since im tryin out for captain, so ive gotten good at teaching. ^_^
