Okay. We all noticed that Scar is a different color than Simba and Mufasa. Yesh. But this makes me notice how Scar looks more like the extinct cape lion. Yes. His species is extinct, which isolates him more from the rest of the pride. Now he's a bad guy who flips his hair. But does that mean that he is a foster bro?
Or is it a strange mutation on the type of lion that everyone else is? And so, this Kovu chap (I never saw part two, but he's the guy who is Scars adopted son with a built in scarred face) just another mutation? Did Scar feel better about him being different like himself and so chose him as his heir?
It could jut be genetic. Or he has some kind of illness.
But then we get to parenting. If in fact Scar was not a foster brother, it is possible that:
a. Scar is Mufasa's half brother
b. Scar dyed his fur at a young age for a fashion statement
c. The brown gene is recesive. (?)
d. I'm thinking this through too much XD

actually it's more likely that Scar gets his dark fur from traits of the masai lions, assuming that the fans are correct in assuming that their mother was a darker colored lioness, it's possible that he inherited it from her. The description of their father from six new adventures stated that Ahadi was a golden lion with a black mane and green eyes, even though the illustration looked exactly like mufasa in the movie. If the description is more accurate than the illustration, Scar inherited his dark mane and green eyes from his father, and from his mother, who was given no description other than the name Uru, possibly a darker pelt.
Back on track now =o Masai lions are fairly low in number nowadays, but they aren't extinct, it is very possible that somewhere along the royal family line, there was a masai =3
Also there are other theories that have come up regarding Scar's parentage, being that Uru was Scar's mother, and Ahadi had two queens. Mufasa's mother died long before Scar (or Taka if you prefer) was born or even concieved. A long shot from this, it is also theorized that if the former happened, Ahadi was so mad with grief for his first queen that he only had a second queen because the first made him swear to, and never liked Taka or Uru, and may have abused him.
My own idea is that since Mufasa was the rightful heir, he was given more attention, not because he was better or anything, but because he needed to know all these things about ruling a kingdom, it is likely that Taka got jealous of the extra attention his brother recieved, this theory is backed up by the book 'a tale of two brothers', though not corroborated word for word.
*cough* yeah, I think we're both overthinking this one =P
